I cried. I fought for my kids in court. A very unfair court and I fought till I won. I never gave up. I faced cruel and ugly people and had brain surgery in between battles but I never quit. They are now 18 and 14 and I have the most blessed relationship with them.

Growing up poor, I can relate to so many things that were kept from us because we didn't have the money to fight the powers that be. This movie hit the nail on the head. We didn't have much more than love in our home, but that love got us through many hard times and taught us that we were rich in ways that money couldn't buy. I own my own home now and have everything that I need, but I'll never forget being told by our parents that as long as we worked hard, were honest, and got an education, we'd always be 'rich'. Wonderful movie with an outstanding cast.

Life sure is more than money. I also grew up never, ever thinking we were poor. I never felt lack, my mama kept us clean, and clothed well, food on table, and our lights were never turned off. But when I got older, and looked at the economic pay scale my mama had been making those years, I figured we had been at the poor level. I remember as a child sometimes I would hear my mama tell someone she had A1 credit. Because when she bought a piece of furniture, she paid it off, in a timely manner. I think that played a part in me thinking we were doing alright, because she always bought good quality furniture that lasted for years. I was too young to know what A1 credit meant, but when I got older and knew, I tried to get A1 credit, and still haven't reached that, yet, lol. But I think what Tyne Daly family, your family, and my mama knew to do was make a dollar, out of 15cents. Truth is my most fun years, were growing up, in that environment. Everybody worked, or were homemakers, and they all watched out for others children. Like a village. Tyne Daly made a valid point, "Since when is being poor, a crime,."

I grew up working in the fields. Late 60s, 70s and 80s. I know how these people felt and no matter how clean we were or how hard we worked we were treated so badly, , like complete dirt in places we worked. That's the brutal truth. The one thing I learned was those were and are the kind of people I never want to be.. God Bless the true migrant workers of America also known of as The Fruit Tramps.

@@joanmarie5449 That can often be true. I was a foster parent to two abused raped neglected children, and even though one was already a teenager, they both wet the bed. Every day I stripped their beds, scrubbed and disinfected the rubber sheet, washed all their bedding and clothes so that by the time everyone came home from school, all the bedrooms would be put together like nothing happened. I did not feel the other children needed to know that those two struggled with this. One of the case workers who came to my home to check on things, saw the stripped beds and said she would have to report it. On ME, the foster parent trying to give them a decent life and help them through their grief and challenges. I said, yes, of course, please do report that I am making sure that all the children who live here have a CLEAN bed to sleep in every night. Yep....report it.

I knew someone who grew up in a sharecropping family. It is a tough life and she had not gone past the third grade in school. It is true what this lady in the movie taught her children "never let anyone make you feel small". As much as you should never let anyone make you feel small, you should never make someone else feel small. Who can find a virtuous woman? Her price is above rubies. This lady Kathryn Messenger, was virtuous.

My parent's married young I a small town! My Dad from a small ramshackle ranch 20 miles from town, my Mom's parent's the big log house as you enter town! Only 1 like it around! That Grandpa helped build most the mountain passes & main roads of WA state!❤💪❤️ Both were loving, tough, honest & cared about their community! They also ended up close friend's ❤ Even after my parent's split up, they stayed in full contact & were at all the major & some minor events! All my Mom's family showed up to my Dad's memorial service to honor him 25 yrs after he had remarried another! My more well off Grandparent's never flaunted what they had, just humble hardworking, & quick to lend a hand! My Dad didn't have wealth, but he was always the first called in an emergency! From frozen pipes, to helping someone down plow or harvest their fields! Neighbor should always care for neighbor regardless! Dad always said, everyone has to work, might as well make it fun! He made the hard work fun, most the time😂😂 and the rest time after even better!❤ Fishing after work, dinner over the camp fire ( whether home or up at the lake) Grandma & Grandpa started it, & she not only taught me how to can & make homemade bread, but taught me to fish, hunt, butcher & how to get done whatever needed doing! My Mom was the same, growing up I a 1 room cabin raising her younger siblings from age 6. Her 8 yr old brother brought wood to cook, hunted small game for survival etc, before Grandma married Grandpa! He was actually my step Grandpa, but you would never know it! ❤ All hard working, fun loving, honest salt of the earth types! We need more of them today, unfortunately too many are groomed to "want it all" fancy cars. Big fancy homes, fake nails, etc etc! The newest phone, gaming system or toy, or fancy trip! Bills not paid, oh well let's go away for the weekend. Is mind boggling to me! Then they just throw things away with no concept of value! Too many just want the gov hand outs however they can get them, easy money! But we still have quite a few growing up right! My 2nd cousin raising a passel of great hard working children on that old family ranch that have much integrity & care about their fellow man! ❤

Oh dear God how I identify with this. My entire growing up years were spent being treated like poor white trash. Thanks to my mother we were clean as could be. I watched my mother be beaten in the ground every way she turned and I watched her being stripped of her dignity. My father was a so called minister and a coal miner (when he would work). He was mean to the oldest 3 girls, our baby sister was spared from his wrath, thank goodness. My brother who was the oldest child went to school without decent clothes to wear and endured being made fun of but he knew that the only way to escape the life that he had endured was to get an education and “WORK”. He bagged groceries every day after school until 9:00 at night and gave the money to my mother for groceries and to pay the power bill so we could keep the lights on. Somehow all of us girls managed to graduate from high school and go on to make a better life. When they built a shirt factory in our area my mother got a job and things got a little bit better. My mother took in ironing to buy fabric to make dresses for us to wear to school before she got a job. We went to school with holes in our shoes and wore those homemade dresses that my mother made for us. My father had no problem accepting what people gave us while my mother felt ashamed of what he was willing to do to keep from working. I remember watching kids have money to buy a hot lunch and have money for a coke and a snack at afternoon break time. My mouth would just water when I watched the other kids eat. The 1950’s and 1960’s were the most miserable time of my life. I married a wonderful man when I we was just eighteen years old and he provided for our family. I went on to become vice president of a mortgage company and we raised two wonderful sons. Our oldest son is both an attorney and an accountant and has an MBA degree as well as a doctorate. He is Dean of a two year college. Our youngest is a dentist. It is strange how people who wouldn’t speak to me in school because I didn’t measure up to their standards are sooo friendly now. I figured out that money made friends!!!

Absolutely marvelous movie. It just shows how hard life can bee and how easy it is for everything to be taken from you by rgise that are wicked and have no care for those that are fighting as hard as they can to provide for their families in these tough times and how people with no heart and care can take it all from them. For a mother and father to really fight to keep their family together and not to let it all be taken from them. Tyne Daly was really marvelous in this and she seemed to be the part instead of playing the part.

Those of us who actually lived and experienced the trials , tribulations, prejudice, falsy accused, will understand the truth of what this movie exposed. Many of the new generation do not understand, they have closed the their hearts to the true meaning of humanity, compassion, empathy. Life is better when you feel what happened to this family in this movie. I experienced this as a child. ❤🙏 No propaganda.

Loved the film . Brought tears to my eyes, somehow I knew it would have a happy ending. Money brings food to the table, pays bills and a roof over your heads . But Love, you don't need to pay for it comes from the heart . Everything that you do have gets passed on to your generations or charities when you pass away. It's all about greed in this world, and people are still not happy with what they have. until they lose it all . The family in this film were not in the wrong, but punished for not paying for the food on time.

Yeah these movies piss me off..in a good way I guess. If you think this is rough there's a movie with mark Harmon based on a true story, where he had to fight for his kids after his wife died. I think about it almost daily. It haunts me for some reason. I've known a lot of injustice and I was in fostercare in Las Vegas so maybe that's why. Plus I've had to fight against cps in Washington state. The injustice is absolutely incredible and sad
