Trains at: Lancaster, WCML, 21/05/17

An excellent afternoon spent at Lancaster station on the West Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from Virgin Trains, Nothern, Transpennine Express and freight from Colas Rail and Freightliner.
Even though this was filmed on a Sunday it was still a fantastic station to come and one that I'm definitely coming back to on a much busier day.

another fab video, good job you werent down exeter today, weathet has been totally horendous all day! now that overhead equipement is very less intrusive compared to the ugly stuff thats been put up on the GWML, very calm weather aswell

Thanks very much for saying so mate, the weather for the last few days has been absolutely dreadful. Defintiely wouldnt want to go filming in this, I think your right the WCML wires look nicer than the GWML ones, they are bit to bulky for my liking

Great video as always. I forgot that Northern have leased the 185 Transpennine units on services from Manchester Airport to Barrow. Morecambe isn't far from Lancaster so those 156s would soon come back to the station. Pity those passengers on that 144 going to Leeds lol. New livery on those 350s looks a lot better than the one they currently use for TPEX. You don't like station announcers interrupting u lol.

I'll be a very happy bunny when the pacers get retired from service they really shouldnt be running any more lol, and yes i hate it when the announcers speak over me hahaha

Thank you very much for this episode of trains at! This is where it all started for me, back when BR was on its last legs I was a 3 year old obsessed with Thomas the tank engine and my train set so one day as a treat my dad brought me here to witness the real thing in action. Even though I never got to see Gordon pull in the express train or Thomas work the branch line (still waiting) the Intercity Swallow liveried 'powerhouse' Class 87's hauling Mark 3 carriages plus DVT left a lasting impression on me and is pretty much why I'm a rail enthusiast today. Did you get a chance to go into town? might be biased but Lancaster with its medieval castle, canals, historic centre and riverside location really is one of the 'jewels' of the north.

Your more than welcome I was very happpy to come up to this incredible station and I'll most certainly be coming back here, I can remember the 'older' generation of trains working the network back in the days of Intercity and Virgin trains before the 390 units took over. I didnt have the chance to venture into the town but I'll try and have a look should I get the chance

This was filmed on a sunday so I can only assume that a sunday timetable means a lot of trains will terminate at Carlisle

I can't see why it wouldn't be good at capturing the trains at speed. Just depends on the resolution of the camera really and if it has auto focus or not. All you can do really is just give it a trail run and see what happens

Yes, they are called Direct Rail Services and deal mostly in freight. Although their locomotives can be used for passenger work where needed
