Trains at: Mill Hill Broadway, MML, 11/03/23

A fairly decent enough visit to Mill Hill Broadway on the Midland Mainline where we see plenty of services from East Midlands Railway and Thameslink.
Mill Hill Broadway was opened in 1868 by the Midland Railway and was at that time just known as Mill Hill, this was built when the company extended their line to St Pancras. The station was renamed in 1950 to Mill Hill Broadway and in 1960 it was rebuilt due to the construction of the M1.
Thameslink have been serving the station since 2014 as part of the Thameslink programme.
One thing I never knew about this station was that during the later half of the 2000s Mill Hill Broadway was served by trains heading into and out of Moorgate during the rush hour periods and for a time was served by Southeastern when they would run peak hour trains from Sevenoaks to Luton, that service has long since stopped with Thamelink taking over the route.
I don't think I can honestly recommend this station, unless you have some freight coming through there really isn't anything special here.

Rather enjoyable at a station I never new existed, only one I knew was Mill Hill East on the Northern Line. Really not a great deal of variation, but another station visited.

It's an alright station to go to but sadly the lack of variety of traffic on this section of the MML doesn't do the station any justice at all

3:20 I know it looks weird when the livery is off in the consist (Hence if you see 005 or 007 now 5 cars that's why), And apparently, EMR doesn't know what a train washer is! 😂 I heard the main one (possibly Etches park) Had been broken for months now. When will they ever be cleaned EMR!

Seems slightly odd that they would only have 1 train wash in the entire network, and if it is broken then why haven't they tried to get it fixed XD

Another great video on the mml. Do you have any plans on going back to market harborough as I know you had plans to go at the end of last year but cancelled due to what I belive was engineering works? It's my local and has had a big refurbishment since you were last there so would love to see a video there.

The 180's will be going by the May timetable change, so if you were to do a rush hour film from Luton Airport Parkway again like last year for example, I'd get it done before then if I was you!

6:32 I agree, it does seem silly for commuter trains like that to have first class. My trivia from Geoff Marshall's video regarding "First Class for free" is that on Thameslink services, the first class at the back of the train is always declassified but on some services like the Sutton loop, first class is declassified as a whole.

Hey Tornado, great video again. I have a small question: How do you get access to platforms with barriers without getting on a train? I am going to the UK this summer and would quite like to maybe film at some stations so it would be great to know how to get on the platform without actually buying a whole ticket.

@@Tornado922 Not quite sure yet. I know that some stations don't have barriers and some still offer a platform ticket. The only scenario that I don't know is what to do if there are barriers but there no platform tickets issued. Do you just ask a member of staff if they could let you on the platform or is there some trick around it?

Seemed interesting when 222104 as a five car like the rest of the 222/1 units but with the wrong livery! That coach was from 222006 originally. Obviously 222005 and 222006 are now five car units due to the 222/1's gaining an additional coach each. 222104 has now had the fifth car repainted.

I am surprised that EMR or even EMT for that matter never contacted Bombardier and requested that the trains be lengthened to cope with the growing passenger numbers

@@Tornado922 Maybe so but good to see the additional coaches on the 222/1's, which was an option upon delivery to EMT but they declined that and kept them as four car units throughout as was originally the same when EMR took over before accepting the option that EMR had declined.

@@joshuamacdonald7702 The four car 222's of 222101-222104 got increased to five cars using coaches from 222005 and 222006, which are now five cars as a result. Formation wise, there are no four car Intercity units left because of that and also 180110 being reformed back to its original formation following the completion of corrosion repairs to one of its coaches in 56910. Despite that though, the 180's will be leaving this month and so will the 156's from the regional fleet.
