Tornadoes confirmed, conditions deteriorating as Hurricane Milton nears Florida

The guy in his boat, is disabled (missing a leg). They stopped his disability check, and he just needs help, he has no money. It's not uncommon for certain people to never ask for help, or to feel undeserving of help. Guy just needs help and encouragement, he just needs to know that he matters.

As a seasoned sailor whose life is now contained in a flimsy RV, I understand that guy. But he's a fool IMO. Whatever ground tackle he could deploy during the worst conditions should already be employed now. Nothing he could do onboard during the peak winds and surge could help his boat survive. When large storms are headed to an area, there should be some kind of FEMA or government evacuation assistance BEFORE the storm hits. Low income, homeless, disabled, and seniors living on social security should be able to quickly apply for emergency aid to evacuate. People have no money, nowhere to go, and no supplies or resources to evacuate. During Beryl here in Texas, we didn't get FEMA applications available until a week after the storm. No power for a WEEK in Texas heat while waiting for FEMA to help people who had no resources. Then, when people got approved for hotel assistance, hotels made it so hard to get a room! I was safe with my family at home with no power, but neighbors had their houses smashed by trees and had to get hotels paying cash the day Beryl hit. So when other people who needed help getting to a safe place were finally approved for lodging assistance, hotels decided not to accept FEMA because they were able to price gouge the people paying cash.

EVERYONE is not being told to evacuate. People in specific areas (“Zones”) have been mandated to leave and they definitely should. Others are not in evacuation zones and/or do not have the means to leave. And even if everyone had the means to leave, Florida does not have the infrastructure for every person to be on the roads exiting the state within a 2-3 day span, gas stations are empty and roads are still affected from Helene. The reporting on this has been terrible, nothing but sensationalist crap.

The city would save more money with assistance paying for evacuations through bussing ppl out or offering hotels for those that are homeless, pay for gas, etc. Instead of telling people to evacuate who can't afford it and deal with the number of bodies that the city will have to clean up.

The guy on boat is in dire danger with potential storm surge. Someone should help him trailer his boat out of water and try to find a safe place inland. At least he is not on the water. His boat will be crushed against the wall if he stays.
