Have you ever witnessed a tornado this clearly before? What precautions do you take when tornado season approaches?
@mikeh.7533 ай бұрын
@@SUPREME-EARTH-MOMENTS I have never seen a tornado this clearly visible. I've been within a quarter mile of a tornado on the ground and it is very noisy and loud as hell. Some people and families have individual tornado shelters I live in a small city where neighbors tell their neighbors to come to their shelter if the weather gets bad. Here in Oklahoma tornadoes are almost second nature to living here.

@@mikeh.753 Wow, that must be terrifying and incredible at the same time! It's amazing how tornadoes have become such a part of life in Oklahoma. Have you ever had to seek shelter during a storm? What’s it like when the community comes together to protect each other?
@mikeh.7533 ай бұрын
@@SUPREME-EARTH-MOMENTS I've sought shelter a handful of times. The news channels in Oklahoma City have gotten extremely good at pin pointing where funnels begin and when they hit the ground. We have massive sirens in most major communities and cities that alert us. If we do have to get in a shelter it is not for very long. We just talk about how we hope our home and property wasn't destroyed. I went to where the May 3rd tornado hit after it happened and I can tell you that a tornado can tear down just about anything if it directly hits it's. I'm talking about cement sidewalks torn up out of the ground. The force of a tornado is probably the most powerful force I've ever personally witnessed.

@@mickhoddy then you don't know enough to have an informed opinion, honestly. People like Reed aren't just chasing tornados to take cool pictures and videos, they're doing scientific research, capturing data to add to the collective scientific community that works on tornado research and, most importantly, warning systems. Our current warning system has progressed specifically because of tornado chaser's research, resulting in warning time averages increasing from literal seconds to now 10-13 minutes. Experts understand tornados more than ever and that's a direct result from chasers gathering research in the field. That's not even touching on the fact that they're often the very first responders on the scene. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of videos of chasers assisting and saving lives. EXACTLY! I didn't even know there was an outbreak going on again today. I just happened to open KZbin and saw reed was streaming, so I said screw it let's see if anything interesting is happening. And literally right when I clicked on the stream the funnel was already there and started dropping down. What a lucky timing.

The fact that Reed stops and checks on damaged homes speaks volumes about his character. Too many other chasers only care about the video or the shot and honestly never (at least as far as I can tell only care about the $$$) about the people or the property on the way.

The finger tip of god. Rope tornadoes have always been the most terrifying to me, and the curl is the biggest reason. It looks like the tornado is directly above you guys, but in fact its a few hundred to a thousand yards away. The video quality we are getting for these tornadoes in 2024 is immaculate. I never thought we'd see a more beautiful set of tornado videos than the Andover, KS tornado that happened a couple of years back, but this year has delivered some STUNNING videos. Keep up the good work. Go visit Manhattan while you're up in the area. PHENOMENAL place.

For laughing at spooking my cat and for laughing at imagining Reed getting impaled by a broom. Ok I wasn't laughing at that imagery... but the commentary ok?

@@josephallen8044 He's perfectly aware of the risk of what he does. The dude got married on a volcano, for heaven's sake. And has been doing this since the 90's. He doesn't call himself an extreme storm chaser for nothing. Dude literally purposefully goes where the danger is. He knows what he's risking. He knows what can happen. Probably more than anybody, as he's seen it thousands of times. He's seen the carnage involved in what he does for a living, more than you probably ever have. He's perfectly aware that his life is in his own hands. And he's fine with that. I think Reed's thoughts are, at least if I go out this way, I'll go out doing something I love. Every storm chaser goes out and does this knowing perfectly well that they are putting their own life's in nature's hands and that it's always a possibility. They wouldn't do it if they didn't love it, though, and they didn't know that they're putting themselves at risk. That's just the name of the game.

I grew up in sabetha which is really close to there, and I remember our downtown got hit in June of 1998, I was taking a bath, and the sirens started and lasted about 5 seconds before the tornado killed the siren control when it demolished city hall, by the time my mom had grabbed me and ran to the basement the gutter had got torn off our house and it was already all but over. It’s crazy how much WIFI has boosted the potential warning you can get now. I’ll never forget that night as I’m sure these folks in westmoreland won’t either. Incredible footage man!
