Toro 721 E Snow blower oil change

First I warm up the engine runing for 5 minutes. Second I use 20 OZ automotive Mobil 1 5W30 full synthetic engine oil that protect the engine for all the range of outdoor temperatures from 100 F to -30 F.

Any synthetic work? I use Walmart synthetic 5-30 for my car.

Whoops been draining the oil from where the dipstick is. 😅 I use full synthetic Castrol Edge and measure out 20 ounces. When the blower is on a flat surface, the new oil should just reach the last thread of where the dip stick goes in. Says it in the manual.

According the factory instructions that came with my Toro, you're not supposed to screw the dipstick in when checking the level.

I don't really worry about the dipstick when changing. I pour 20 oz slowly with the machine titled slightly fwd. The oil level comes right up the dipstick tube and doesn't overflow when dropped to the operating position. That's how I know it's full and not overfilled.

What do you all do for the non-winter months with the gas tank? Do you drain the gas out of the tank for the months not in use? OR, do you put in that fuel stabilizer into the gas tank with the gas for the off-season? Just curious.

I personally do not like the idea of draining the fuel. We use Stabil for the winter. And I have my helpers run the snow blowers once per month for 5 minutes. We’ve been doing that for over five years with two out of the three we have and have never had one problem.

I change the oil in my Toro CCR 3000 Suzuki 2 stroke every time I mix up a batch of 50:1 pre-mix 2 stroke fuel!

You might have the change the paddles. Or there is ice below the snow. This machine will not move ice that is on cement. If it is snow try to Google “when do I need new paddles on my snow blower” or “toro not clearing all the snow” most likely you need to replace the paddles

Hello; I'm not sure, but I had thought you should measure the oil level when the machine is horizontal, not stood up on end . . . Can I ask - do you use the genuine toro paddles and scraper when you replace (is it worth it?), or do you use the less expensive generic type? Thanks!

Nope measure is fine. And I use Kage paddles. Heavy duty more commercial quality

The machine should be returned to its operating position before checking oil level. It won't register properly tilted up.

Take the cap off put a plastic bag over the opening and put cap back on now it won't leak out

Use premium gas. Better for the engine.

i just broke 2 x 10mm socket trying to unscrew the drain oil bolt... am i missing a step or something ?

No. I would try and use some PB blaster or some kind of fluid to loosen up the bolt. Seems like it was overtightened

It depends on how cold your area is. And if you are running the machine in cold temperatures or below freezing temperatures

Not if you tilt it up you will be fine as long as the cap is on

I personally have not. This machine is the homeowner model but we used it commercially. This machine is used maybe once or twice a year. We do not get alot of snow. It was used for a storm of up to 8ish inches of snow and it cleared about 30 driveways with zero problems.

Snow blowers are expensive today I put mobile one dextrose synthetic 5W-30 in my 720 tomorrow I also check the oil by screwing it in and I checked the oil in the snowblower is a normal position no one seems to make any of that clear !! I also warm up my machine for 10 minutes before I drain the oil and this last time it took 21 ounces to get the dipstick at the bottom of the threats

Yes it does. But you should look into some type of fuel additive like Sta-Bil. If you fill this machine up and then don’t run it for a few months you can clog the carburetor and it will not start.

I only recommend the oil that comes with the machine. Toro oil. I would call a auto parts store with your specs.

Fill oil until it reaches the middle of the dipstick. U have to check oil while its on level ground. Not while its tipped upwards like in this video. Over filling and underfilling are both bad

If the blower os sitting level the oil should be at the bottom of the threads of dipstick, so if it’s sitting normally on a level spot you can’t overfill

You can’t add vertically like the video or you’ll add way to much, I did that too
