Toro LX420 Part 2, we saved another Lawn tractor from the scrap yard

In this video we get the Toro LX420 lawn tractor cutting grass again. We get the engine running, the mower deck installed and spinning freely, battery cable terminals crimped on the battery leads. We also find a problem with the drive belt and route it properly.

The oil dipstick can be pushed in just a little further until it clicks into place. That will give you a slightly more accurate reading.

@@5beesgarage you’re welcome. Nice video on the 420. Excellent tip about removing screws and bolts with the electric tool, but using your hand to get them back in, at least to get them started. That fuse! I don’t remember what blew mine, but I had no idea there was a fuse. Somehow I found out about it. This week I’ve been replacing the steering pinion. My 10 year old granddaughter helped me by lifting that steering shaft so I could get that washer into place.

Thanks ! Great Video ! I just picked one up thats been sitting in garage for 3 years. hoping to get it going. Starter is doing the same thing as yours. Also gas is pouring out of carb ? Havn't got much further than that yet. I'm no mechanic but going to try.....

11:30 - The blades “will” turn in reverse if you go through special steps, involving the orange triangle just above and to the right of the keyhole. The instruction sticker should explain it. I do use it sparingly, though.

These mowers seem very well made, still going after 17 years, I need a deck belt for mine it’s starting to slip in thick grass, would you happen to no the part number for it? Thanks great video

I just got a used one on offerup, it has been sitting outside for 10 months according to the last owner, he claim it was in perfect running condition before. The fuse blow everytime after running for a minute or two. The engine will keep running, but the headlight and engine hour display will shuts off. Also the engine will make popping sounds ever so often. Any idea what is causing that?

They always say it ran great. LOL As for the fuse I would start by doing some testing with a DVM looking for a short or start unplugging as much as possible And if the fuse holds plug things in one at a time and see what blows the fuse. Good luck.

Has anyone heard of an issue with this model snapping deck belts? I saw an article about it having to have the pto modified, can’t find the article though, Thxs, great restoration n videos 👍
