Excellent video! I watch these before I change paddles/blade/belt to remind myself of the details. This is the first time I watched one from a pro USER, which was great. All kinds of good tips- best one being to use a milk crate as a "jack". Thanks!

I can’t believe I didn’t buy a toro snow blower sooner I bought one and could not believe how simple maintenance is on them. My craftsman was a absolute nightmare to do anything outside of an oil change lol.

I have an Atlus 3.5 single stage that I got in 1993 it works great. This is the first time that I'v had to replace the paddle pads. I just started to see the snow coming out the from. Not bad, the pads lasted 28 years!!! Knock on wood, the only thing I've had to replace is the pull cord.. Fingers crossed that I get another 28 years before the next repair??

I have used the same paddles for the last 3 seasons in a moderate - high snow area (lake effect plus system snow) and the snow blows back a little, but it's always done that from new.

Use automotive detergent oil with an API service classification of SJ, SL, or higher. Based on manual 10W30 is used on outdoor temperature range 0F to 100F, 5W30 for 40 F to - 30 F and Synthetic 5W30 for 100 F to - 30 F. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic engine oil and this cover all ranges of outdoor temperatures.

If you add the oil this way you’ll overfill it! Incorrect. You must fill with the blower sitting level on the ground not tipped forward as in this video. Also the toro paddles have a little hole punch into them 3/8” from the fresh edge. Once worn to the point you can’t see the hole they need replacement.

Great tip, you are correct! We definitely overfilled it by a few ounces. Quick update though, no issues.

This is a good general guide on what to do but check the online manual before you work on your machine. There are a few important details not covered here. If you change out your paddles do it on a nice warm day so you can bend them easily. There are 2 little metal bolt hole spacers you need to transfer from each worn paddle ( not shown in this video). I use Slip Plate graphite lubricant spray to prevent snow from sticking to the paddles and chute.

Also a little Anti-Seize on the bolts/nuts will keep the rust off of them.

Thanks for the video I wish you had included making the adjustment on the handle that would be nice for us rookies my paddles have wear indicators but I also had a question it seemed as though I did see the strings on my paddles the whole time from the beginning in fact some people say to make sure that the threads in the belting are placed at the top when you put them on thanks for your help what say you

Paddles gone on rubber hitting grpund first. This might only apply to the thicker, 10mm, paddles. Auger pulley can be installed backward. I beleive it is flush side in as there is 1 side were the metal insert sticks out from the pulley

Hey Brian off the subject but would like your opinion. I just bought a 12 volt battery charger/maintainer. Do you take off your batteries and keep them charged ver the winter or just start them up every week. Could be a good subject for a video. Especially on how it has gotten so cold and I even had trouble starting up my Exmark Aerator a couple weeks ago to winterize. Thanks in advance.
@BriansLawnMaintenance
@BriansLawnMaintenance 7 жыл бұрын
Shane Bretey That's a good question pal. I know you can leave them on a trickle charger but truthfully I don't do that, or remove the battery. A battery isn't much for me and I replace mine every other season anyways. Let me check some stuff out on the back end and get back to you. May be able to do a quick tip video on it. Good suggestions brother!

Besides being half the price what's the advantage of a single stage over 2 stage?? I used a one of these once and lake effect snow made it useless
@BriansLawnMaintenance
@BriansLawnMaintenance 6 жыл бұрын
Just volume of snow you can move. Lake effect areas, you'll want a 2 stage all day. The new Toro's are insane.
@Papi4l2
@Papi4l2 5 жыл бұрын
Single stage clears to the pavement and is usually quicker and more maneuverable. If u have gravel, u'll need 2 stage. Or if u get extreme heavy snow. Like a foot and up. A good single stage can handle up to about a foot

The end bolt on each paddle is nearly impossible to put back on. Good luck all. There's zero room to try to thread the bolt into the nut.
@westernmichigan5009
@westernmichigan5009 3 жыл бұрын
I just replaced my badly-worn paddles (after 5 years' use). To assemble the final bolt & nut, I first verified that I could pass the bolt threads through the hole. Then, using a box-end wrench (spanner), I pre-positioned the nut between the wrench's jaws and put a piece of TAPE across the top (outboard) side to hold it. Then, while pressing the threads through the hole in the paddle, I used the wrench to engage the threads. Note: the tighter that you tape the nut in-place, so that it's extended to be as close to the threads as possible, the better.

AndreTheGiant2006 Never heard of it but just watched the video on it. Looks pretty cool, in theory. Curious to know how it performs. I like the idea behind it. If it's worth it's weight, I'm sure other brands will adopt the design. Guess I'll have to wait and see. Can't comment though, sorry pal! Let me know if you pick one up/and or do a video on it.
