Toro Timemaster vs. Overgrown St. Augustine Lawn | Mowing Tall Grass

After 8 days of neglect in peak growing season (July), this healthy St. Augustine lawn has reached heights of 8+ inches tall. This video demonstrates the cutting performance of the Toro Timemaster 30" lawn mower. I decided to do two passes, the first at the highest setting (4-1/4 inches), and a second pass at my typical mow height, 3-3/4 inches. The first pass was done using the side discharge as it allowed me to move quickly and knock off a majority of the grass blade. The second pass was done with the bag in place to collect new clippings and the clippings left after the first pass.
The mower performed well, leaving a clean cut. The 223cc engine provided plenty of power.

Excellent video Sir. You are displaying the proper use of this homeowner mower. Most all videos pointing out the problems are from folks using the mower in commercial application. Ive owned my Timemaster for almost 5 yrs and love it.

Thank you, Gerald! I'll admit I was a bit hesitant before purchasing the mower due to the negative perception out there, but I completely agree with you. This mower has been great. Starts right up, plenty of power. I have no complaints. I would prefer a larger gas tank though.

@@BlackHoleDIY The tank is small for sure, but being over 60 I'm ready for a little break after 45 minutes of constant walking, whether mowing or not...LOL

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I'm considering buying this mower and was searching for those using it on St Augustine grass. Apparently it doesn't have an issue. Any maintenance issues since you've had it?

Hi Andrew. No issues at all. I found that it doesn't bag well for st. augustine. What I mean by that is it doesn't fill the bag up entirely before build up occurs at the port where the grass enters the bag. I think this is due to the larger, heavier grass blades. On the other hand, I used it to mow my neighbor's zoysia (a finer bladed, lighter grass) and the bag filled up to brim. This just means, if bagging, you'll need to empty the bag more frequently. Overall, I really do like it and would recommend it.
