Nothing of substance said. The city is owned by corporations and condo developers. No civic pride whatsoever in creating wonderful big parks or unique urban environments. Just soulless glass condos.

All the images and all the discussion was about UNAFORDABLE housing. (Only the filthy rich will live at the lakeshore.)
@Jonnyrockin71
@Jonnyrockin71 3 күн бұрын
why should a person that is subsidised by 'the filthy rich' be given a prime lakeshore property? Should taxpayers also pay for a Tesla and private school?

Yes, affluent people pay to build new housing since new buildings are expensive to build and can attract higher prices. So the wealthier people move into them _leaving the older places for non-wealthy people_ since the wealthy are no longer out-bidding everyone else for them. And that's how it's been for decades across North America. Most affordable housing is older while shiny new buildings charge the highest prices. Yet people are always complaining that new housing being built isn't cheap. The only way any significant amount of new housing is cheap is if the government pays for all or most of it through subsidies which isn't something Canada has done in any great degree for a long time. When new housing is built for the affluent, they're the ones paying the total cost of increasing the housing supply. But when it's subsidized by the government, everyone, including non-affluent people, bears the burden.

Or the rich can pay their fair share in taxes. And government can use money wisely.
@Jonnyrockin71
@Jonnyrockin71 Күн бұрын
@@stevenchow408 The word 'fair-share' is subjective. Those with incomes upwardsof 250k a year pay the majority of taxes. The top 20% of income-earning families paid nearly two-thirds of all income taxrevenue collected by the CRA. You lefties are such horrible, people who only hold your hand out because you cannot save, invest, and learn how to make capital work for you. And you turn a blind eye to government waste, corruption, and inefficiencies. You do nothing about reforming government public operations to get more bang for your buck. You are a comutard. You are a thief.
@Nouvellecosse

@@stevenchow408 Not sure why there's an "or" there. Those things should happen regardless of how housing in funded. And doing them wouldn't mean that housing would be done differently.

Building the exact same sterile blue/glass condo boxes with the same shitty nail parlor, convenient store and A&W that line the bottom is why Toronto absolutely lacks any identity. It feels like a corporate wasteland. Look at Chicagos waterfront and tell me that isn't infinitely better than Toronto's. I like the huge amount of greenspace along the waterfront but what about the downtowns waterfront? There's literally NOTHING there, it's barron and boring. Seriously, just look at any other "world class" city and youll realize toronto has no business being labeled as one.

Stop designing the city around the car. we need more dedicated bus lanes, lrt and common destinations like grocery should be within walking distance of everyone. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqbUk6armrOpl8ksi=zLuF7MUa8ERVJ1Bt

If you are interviewing someone from municipal government. Ask how they are working to reduce costs, objectives, actions, how the city is using AI.

@@uomouomouomouomo No he did not. It’s a very clear question for any civic administrator. How are you bring down costs and reducing the waste in Government How are you deploying AI to civic workflows and services. You lefties think money grows on trees. Or worse that you can tax tax tax and not worry about consequences

@@krismctopher7 Permitting & Approval Process: AI streamlines the permitting process by automating application reviews, flagging missing documents, and verifying compliance with zoning regulations. This reduces approval times from weeks to days, saving both time and administrative costs. Citizen Engagement: AI-powered virtual assistants provide 24/7 support for residents, helping them pay taxes, apply for services, and find public information without the need for in-person visits. Traffic Management: AI systems analyze real-time traffic data to optimize signal timings, reduce congestion, and lower emissions. This not only improves commute times but also saves on infrastructure wear and tear. Waste Management: AI improves waste collection efficiency by predicting optimal routes and schedules, reducing fuel costs and minimizing environmental impact. Public Safety: AI assists in predictive policing by analyzing crime patterns and allocating resources more effectively. This helps ensure safer neighborhoods with fewer expenses on reactive measures. Energy Efficiency: AI-powered smart building systems optimize energy use in city-owned facilities, cutting utility bills and reducing the city's carbon footprint. Disaster Response: AI predicts weather patterns and helps coordinate emergency responses, ensuring faster, cost-effective action during floods or extreme weather events. Public Transit: AI optimizes bus and train schedules based on real-time ridership data, improving service reliability while reducing operational waste. Cost Projection: If Toronto implements 100% AI-human hybrid workflows, the city could potentially save 30-50% of its operational budget across departments. For example, a $14 billion annual budget could see savings of $4-7 billion, freeing up funds for public investments and lowering taxes.
