Great video! I can still recall the recorded female voice on the old "TTC Timeline" telephone line when she would say, "Route 4----- Annette----- next scheduled vehicle to Jane Station in seven minutes". Those were simpler times and your video brings back many happy memories of riding the TTC. You did an excellent job of capturing the sounds---- particularly the interior sounds inside the trolley bus. That sound was unique and does not exist here anymore. Thanks for preserving it!!!!!

I remember riding trolley buses on Bay Street and Lansdowne Avenue. I didn’t travel much on Dupont or Annette Streets as often as a child, but I remember seeing them on these thoroughfares as well as Ossington and Oakwood Avenues (one of the 63 Ossington bus routes served Rogers Road). From what I can recall, the trolley bus rides were quiet. You didn’t hear any loud engine braking, especially when drivers were making a complete stop. The buses were spacious, too, and from what I can remember, they weren’t overcrowded. Too bad the TTC put an end to trolley bus service in 1993. I think they could have served T.O. well to this day, considering they are more environment friendly than diesel vehicles or, apparently, hybrid counterparts. Trolleys could have been electric or hydrogen compressed, as evidenced in photos I see of such vehicles still used on some Vancouver or Seattle routes. I hope the TTC will consider bringing trolleys back sometime. Thanks for sharing this video. It really brings me back to my childhood. (-:

Newmarket has just received their first all-electric buses, but instead of using overhead wires, they use onboard batteries, and then they spend 15 minutes charging the bus up at the end of its route (which is not very long). So it is clear; the future of electric buses is to use batteries instead of overhead wires.

I don't understand this and I hope someone can explain this to me. The trolley bus ttc had were environmentally friendly. That is they didn't pollute the air like the diesel units. Why on god's green earth were they taken out of service?

The chassis and power units were built in the late 1940s and were rebodied a couple of times. Back in 1991 there was a push for CNG buses which were considered to be low emission and cheaper than brand new trolleybuses and the maintenance costs of the overhead wiring.

It starts at Jane station, then travels along Annette to Dundas West around 1 minute in to the video. Shots of the Annette/Dupont line which ran under the railway line and then route 40 heading towards Keele and finally ends up at Dundas West station.

No, just straight electric. Hybrids came very much later.
