Not for nothing, Toronto should be ashamed of itself. The guy who did all of these video's should be in the Hall Of Fame of Human Beings. This guy was WAYYYYYYY ahead of his time. I hope he has a comfortable couch with a large screen TV up in the sky when his time is up. Absolute LEGEND.

Oh boy, being a teenager in the 80s and early 90’s this brings back a lot of nostalgic memories. Staying up late, tucked away in our houses basement. After watching ‘certain late night programming’ (thank you Quebec), then winding down to sleep with Night Moves smooth music and almost trance like stroll through Toronto. What a time…

I discovered this show when I was very sick with the flu. I couldn't sleep and I needed something to take my mind off how awful I was feeling. I turned on the tv and after clicking through a sea of infomercials, I found this and was immediately captivated. I watched this show every morning until my flu was gone. It was just what I needed to help get me through.

I was like 7 years old. I sometimes purposely woke up at that time of night and snuck downstairs to the tv room just to watch this. I always thought I was a strange kid to do that. Lol. Something mesmerized me about this at that age. I think it’s what you say...to see downtown Toronto at night. And the jazz music just added this sense of a dreamlike atmosphere that was thrilling to me as a child. These episodes are truly a memorable part of my childhood.

Man, this is awesome and brings back memories. I was a night owl in the latter half of the 80s and into the 90s, so I'd often catch one of these episodes late at night. It was zen slow TV long before slow TV was a thing; relaxing, calming, kind of a virtual tour of Toronto; now a time capsule of the city long before it became a literal forest of tall condos and construction projects, LED billboards, and perpetual gridlock. I miss this Toronto so much.

This was one of those shows I discovered by accident in my youth. I would be up late nights back then, just because I could, and by swapping around the channels looking for something to watch, I found this. Reminds me of the good ol'days before the internet took over and changed our way of life. So much nostalgia when watching these videos...makes me happy and sad a the same time. Imagine trying to make something like this today? People losing their minds left and right, threatening legal action...so sad that the world is so damn paranoid now. I'd love to see a modern day version of this.

Sheldon Leonard nails it with the Canadian Heritage moment remark, the flashing neon at Yorkdale station takes me back to a similar sequential neon display at the old AGO on the corner of Dundas & Beverley Streets. The illuminated street signs downtown too! Where are we going at Ford's Drugstore, temptations on Yonge Street, billiard halls, restricted theatres, arcades, Mr Submarine, Pizza Pizza. A fun time.

Thanks for posting. Ive been trying to find Night Walk and Night Ride for a while now. I remember watching these after regular TV programming ended.

"Flâneurie," coined by Honore De Balzac, represents a practice among 19th-century noblemen where they would stroll meekly, un-assumedly, to ingest the vivaciousness of the world around them with minimal affectation. Moments of loss, love, of heartening lightness and unbearable weight all functioning as a "gastronomy for the eye," a tableau of humanity represented by hundreds of ever-unfolding vignettes. The flâneurist's aim is (allegedly) not of a voyeur's, but of an empath's. This show is contemporary flâneurie, and a daring premise: the drama of an evening - every evening - in all its delicate incidentiality. For returning to when I need a few wistful tears. Cheers!

I really really think this would be amazing if it could be used with a VR headset. It would be that much more incredible!!

somebody needs to redo this in VR for the quest, but use these old tunes (and edit in SAMs back where it was).. or show an overlay with what used to be... damn.

This was a low point in my life. In four more years I'd find myself in the States. What a mistake!! I used to walk the streets late at night like this when I was a teen in the 70s. Wow.... the memories.

torontofred sorry you feel that, any reason why?
@torontofred

@@millionairesplendor2751 There are many reason. Freedom, security, peace, good government, justice. Pick one. All you have to do is a search on the internet and you find all sorts of reasons why. About the only good stuff is, some fantastic landscapes (not too many jobs at the Grand Canyon), crazy buying power (if you have money), great tech jobs and service support in certain locations (most places in the States is depressed), the most powerful military in the world (and a lot of PDS), and some places doesn't snow (hurricanes, tornadoes, super hail, floods, fires, sinkholes, super hot, super cold, volcanoes, and Trump) and the best medical/hospitals money can buy... (hint, money). Having said that... the States has some terrific potential to be the best country in the world. Best educated, best health care, best rights and freedoms, best government, best leadership. I'm just to old to wait anymore. Moving to Canada.
