I think Gentaro is very special, though I'm not an expert in this field. He seems to have inherited Genki's qualities of kindness and intelligence, and he is very handsome. I think he would be a wonderful partner for a special gorilla female. I love Gentaro and would be very sad to see him leave Kyoto Zoo, but I wish him a happy life as a silverback with his own family. Thank you, Ryan, for letting us know about any new developments that come along, it's very much appreciated.

It will be unfortunate if, since there were no plans put in place by the respective zoos shortly after Kiyomasa and Gentaro were born, they will now be in “limbo’ because there are no zoos in Japan to move them to. I can only hope that there will be a positive outcome for both of them in the future. 😊

i follow the Shabani troop way more than the Momotaro troop but this one has been on my mind a few times with Shabani actively keeping Kiyomasa away from the females where he is just forced to spend time alone. Not sure at what point a move will be required and hoping the zoos keep the young males in mind for what is best for them.

I wish all good things for the gorillas of Japan. Even if gorillas could be brought in from zoos abroad, there is nowhere to house them. Building indoor and outdoor enclosures for gorillas is realistically going to take anywhere from 3-5 years. Meaning Komomo, Momoka, Gentaro, Kiyomasa, Annie, Riki and Kintaro will have to stay where they are...😢

It's more dishearting than an outrage that these Zoos would inbreed gorillas let alone without a future plan for their mental wellbeing. It's pure greed and irresponsible and this is unacceptable by any Countries standard! This also must mean Annie would not be a good candidate for Gentaro. They could atleast join Gentaro and Annie as a couple but not allow her to become pregnant. This would resolve a small fraction of the problem these zoo's have created out of greed! Companionship is important. Thank You Ryan for bring this issue to the world stage in hope that other zoo's would be more responsible.

The reality is that only one in four male gorillas are required to form a troop with three to four females. The males that are not required are placed in Batchelor groups and hardly ever get to create a family of their own. 😢😢😢 Male gorillas not required for breeding should be rewild just like the Aspinall Foundation group do.

A letter to the new president of America, Trump, would help. If you mention anything that would boost his ego, something like a promise to make a public announcement mentioning him, he would send over a female gorilla for Gentaro. Probably for free, he's very easily manipulated so i imagine it wouldn't be hard. Its worth a try at least

A very major consideration for importing and exporting gorillas is the quarantine. It's difficult to keep these large animals in a quarantine facility and even more worrisome is how hard it is on the gorilla, they do not do well under quarantine conditions. Also there is the consideration of possibly needing to use anesthesia or sedatives on the gorillas for long distance travel. It's much more complex and scary (for the gorilla and those that love them) to move gorillas from country to country than it was a few decades ago, which is overall a good thing that they're much, much more protected today.
