Having a motor is so nice. I love my Sportsman 106 powered by MK! There are times I wish I had bought the autopilot for the spot lock (windy day on the lake) and there are times I wish I bought a Hobie (shallow rivers). I will be building a trailer this winter due to the weight and so I do not have to rig and un rig it every time I pull it in and out of my truck.

I may also get a trailer!

I just ordered my Torqeedo 1103 on Thursday, it will be in around January sometime which is fine cause my PA14 360 won’t be here till March lol ... Definitely getting the Rugged inline mount , Hobie adapter plate and rock guard from Innovative Sportsman. Needless to say I again have you to thank for helping me to figure out the best ways to make my kayak mine and most importantly as efficient as possible when on the water.
@thereelaccountant92463 жыл бұрын
how do you like your 1103? I can't decide between that and the 403 because it looks so bulky lol
@kernlkajun14 жыл бұрын
Good choice on the Torqeedo for covering water as the PA doesn’t seem to really need a TM. Although expensive, it will most likely pay for itself in terms of tournament fishing proficiency. Thanks for the great educational and entertaining fishing videos and best regards.
@kristinefischer22894 жыл бұрын
That’s why I went with it- my 360 essentially is a spot lock ! Torqeedo is much faster and helps me pre fish
@kernlkajun14 жыл бұрын
@@kristinefischer2289 Due to price and weight I went with a Bixpy Jet, giving up some degree of steering efficiency in my Bonafide. About that time I realized a PA 14 360 could resolve the maneuverability issues and I could use the Bixpy in very shallow water and trolling. I may check with Innovative for a bracket that will accommodate a micro power pole and the jet at the stern.

I love your videos, you are a great fisher lady, and you are very good spokes person, however I’m considering buying a submarine with Torpedos so I can see the fish before I harvest them, Lol, I own three hobies now and am considering a new pro Angler14, which one ? 360 or the 180 with reverse, I’m not tournament angler, I like pedaling, but think a motor is only in case of an emergency, and the weight of power pole, fish finders, lithium batteries, and all the gear, and the weight of the boat! Gee whiz fun sure is expensive! I have two newer outbacks and a compass! I love kayaking without a gas motor, thanks again great videos, good luck fishing!

Kristine, You mentioned covering water during practice. I assume like most Kayak fishing circuits the ones you fish in do not allow motors. Please cover how easy it is to remove the motor with and without the special mount you have. It would be interesting to understand the process. Greg Blanchard has the Wizard, You have Trey.

@@kristinefischer2289 the previous version of that mount (Gen2) allows you to tighten the set screw to fix the position of the motor, its what I use on my Hobie 360.

I've seen all the electric motor gadgets for all the yaks and not very impressed with Torqeedo's reliability or price. I believe Old Town has a better product if your traveling down the electric motor road. I just got my Sportsman 106 MK. I was totally impressed that everything is pre wired and built in. Just add a battery, plug-in and go. I hear the Sportsman 12AP with spot lock is even better, eliminating the need for a power pole. On the flip side, if your sponsored that's a win-win situation for you. (Unless it craps out in the middle of a high stakes tournament)

Old town makes a good boat for sure, but I think my hobie pro angler 360 with a torqeedo is the best fishing platform for my style of fishing!
@TidewatersFishing4 жыл бұрын
Trolling motors are generally not made for long distance runs at full throttle and issues arise with them being used in that way. Been there, done that.
@amals514 жыл бұрын
I’m interested to hear why you chose this Over a motor guide. I’ll be watching out for that video. I have a torqeedo and I’m thinking of selling it and adding a motor guide or minn Kota. I mostly fish lakes and the spot lock feature is something I wish torqeedo had.
@kristinefischer22894 жыл бұрын
For me all depends on the kayak you have - with my Hobie 360, I’m able to hold position with ease therefore it didn’t make much sense to get a TM- it made sense to get a much fast motor to cover more water and get from spot a to spot b quickly ! Hope that helps
@amals514 жыл бұрын
@@kristinefischer2289 they are faster for sure. I’ve got a Titan 13.5 and I can average about 4.5 mph. But I’m not sure if it’s an anomaly, and I’ve asked Jeff little, but my battery seems to be draining much faster in its second season which is concerning. Given the fact that a replacement battery is $900!

I look forward to hearing your reasoning as to why you went Torqueedo over MotorGuide. I'm assuming it has to do with the 360 drive. In my titan, I'm thinking the MotorGuide is going to be a must have. Thanks for sharing.
@kristinefischer22894 жыл бұрын
You are correct!! The 360 acts like a spot lock for me!
@amals514 жыл бұрын
I have a torqeedo in my Titan 13.5 and I’m thinking about switching for the spot lock attribute... the torqeedo is great for getting from spot to spot but it doesn’t do much for keeping you in place. It can be done if you have foot control steering but it limits you.
@richdagsher29314 жыл бұрын
@@amals51 I think that's a good move. I'm an offshore fisherman primary, so hitting that perfect spot is very important to my style of fishing. So spot lock is a must! I can't for the wind and current to not push me around so I can just focus on fishing!
@Osprey19554 жыл бұрын
You might consider connecting the Torqeedo steering lines into the kayak’s steering disc. Doing so will keep your motor in line with your rudder and will provide sharper turning. If the motor is fixed in one direction (straight) it will tend to fight the rudder when you are trying to turn.

Wow, your videos and angling are excellent, but no way would I buy something as expensive as a Torqueedo ($1800-2600)or a Hobie 360 PA ($4,799) and be happy having to ziptie the two together. This certainly makes me feel better for importing a Chinese generic with two motors for 800 bucks (plus shipping, duties, local delivery, etc). Before anybody involves flag waiving, I would ask that they educate themselves on where Hobie kayaks are made.

Very cool but... at what point is your yak to heavy? How much time does it take for you to load and unload you yak? I imagine it is a process now. Do you have a trailer at this point! Just curious.
@kristinefischer22894 жыл бұрын
... its heavy. I trailered for two years but with all the miles I put on and some of the off road ramps, a trailer just got to be too cumbersome. So I opted to get the workout each time. One day though I may go back to a trailer

@kristinefischer2289 Жыл бұрын
1103 is the best motor out there. It is quieter than a 403, much much faster and more powerful. In florida, it can cut through the vegetation (pads grass etc) It is a lot faster than an xi3 so I like it for breaking down water and getting from spot a to spot b faster. With foot control steering, you cant beat it!

I don't understand the logic of putting a motor on a pedal powered kayak. Your hands are already free to fish (no need to paddle). Honestly, you should just get a regular boat if you don't want to be self propelled.
