In case some viewers dont understand the significance here: A long time ago Harbor Freight stores mostly sold junk but managed to stay in business by appealing to workers on a tight budget, and they were successful. They can be quiet accurate if the emissivity setting is correct for the surface finish and material you are testing. They are not a set and forgot tool and you can't use them on multiple materials or finishes without adjusting the settings to match

It would be super helpful to see you guys test different angle grinders from the same brand (e.g. the DCG405, DCG412, and DCG414) as well as similar comparisons for other brands. That would provide very useful information for someone looking to purchase a grinder who is already committed to a battery line, and provide some context on how much additional performance you get for the extra money, and if spending more is actually worth it or if the cheaper models will get the job done. Not too surprised about Milwaukee's performance. I've had the chance to speak with a handful of engineers who design grinders and when they talk about the top competitors they are trying to beat I've never once heard them mention Milwaukee. Makita and Dewalt are the names I hear a lot. From the welders, I know I'd say it was Makita, Dewalt, Metabo, Bosch and Hitachi in that order. As far as cordless... probably Dewalt but I really want to see what the Flex can do... I mean they invented the grinder after all.

Great job! I have three Bauer corded angle grinders set up for different jobs and I’ve found them to be excellent tools for the money. I’ve also been using Bauer’s 20V cordless tools (although not the angle grinder - yet) in the municipal garage where I work for about two years now and I’m really happy with them. I’ve had zero failures and their performance has been really good, especially when considering what I paid for them.

i have the same harbor freight dual action polisher that i use daily since 2016.. it still going strong and take all the beating.. it really impressed me how that cheap brand can compete with the expensive brand such rupes and flex in terms of performance and durability..

Very much appreciate the standardized testing of actual output on the dyno and comparing cordless to corded. This sheds light on some questions I've had for ages. Would love to see the craftsman brushless V20 grinder as well the dewalt XR, but really, any more testing would be great to see.

I run that Hercules grinder with the 12ah extreme battery and love it! Did have to warranty it one time for the disc lock breaking, but that was painless and I had a new tool the same day. Plus, every time you warranty it you get a new handle, new spanner, and a free grinding disc

I had the same first introduction with Hercules tools when I first bought my mother her 12v Hercules drill. The first one worked for a few days with little to no use and just suddenly pooped out the last time she used it. No drama, no magic smoke, nothing. It just quit and wouldn't respond. But because we didn't have it very long it was still under warranty so I just brought it back to the store and exchanged it for a new one with no questions asked. The second one has been working perfectly fine with constant use and is still going strong a year or two later. I was disappointed when the first one pooped out but I understand that thousands of them are made in a day and you're bound to get a bad one eventually. Since I really wanted to try the Hercules tools I stuck with it and everything I've bought since then have all been great. :)

Would love to see what a Makita corded would do and a DeWalt cordless. I've had good luck with Makita grinders. I know my Dad has a 9" that's over 30 years old and is still throwing sparks and it's been worked hard, it does weigh a lot though. Of course it's a 9" so that's to be expected. Love these new series that you are running. Really like knowing about tool vibration.

The best corded angle grinder I have ever used was a Hikoki (made in Japan) not the Chinese made brands. I once took it apart to compare with a broken other brand and the wire wraps were so much larger, better insulated and wrapped tighter in the motor. Did a classic tractor renovation and ran it constantly for over an hour to strip paint to bare metal and it's still working 5 years later. We bought the twin pack which comes with the 5 inch grinder and the 9 inch too.

Sweet!! Love to see y'all testing new types of tools. I've noticed a similar vibration in my brushed Milwaukee angle grinder. With you observing a similar phenomenon on the corded grinder, (and milwaukee's reputation for runout in drill chucks) could you do a short piece comparing runout across brands and tools for these types of tests? It's definitely a quality metric that's easily measurable, significantly affects mfg cost, is under-reported to consumers, and directly relevant to the user experience.

I like it. For sure the Bauer with the big battery available now would be cool. And obviously dewalt, Ryobi, hart and rigid. I use a cordless brushed Bauer quite often and have been impressed with it compared to an old 19.2 craftsman and dewalt 18v I used to use.

I love these videos, you, Project Farms, and Linus Tech Tips labs are making a motion for more informed consumers and frankly being able to call companies out on their bs is a great breath of fresh air. I recommend adding a motion sensor of some sort to be attached to the handle for testing vibrations, which would be useful for anyone who uses them a lot. Also, a usage video for reference would be very helpful, the tool can go up to 500w is nice but can you hold it at that power output? What can you do with that type of wattage, how much is 200 equivalent to? Is that grinding rust away or is it cutting through something?

Yep the 8ah uses the 21700 cells just like the bigger hercules batteries. The 12ah has been announced as well but not available yet.

Excellent video. The Bauer really surprised me with its performance for the price. I was also surprised that both the corded and cordless Bauers looked to have very good ventilation on the head. I did not notice much if any air flow through the head designed for the Milwaukee or Hercules. Very nice testing setup. Thanks so much for sharing this information with us!

I bought the Hercules about 2 months ago and I'm very pleased with it. It's a good grinder with the 5 amp battery. With the 8 amp with the high draw cells it turns into a beast. I usually have a 7 inch cut off wheel and you really have work it harder than I want to hog a cutoff wheel to get it to stall

Just a little note on the heat. Ive found if you take apart the head and pack more mollie into it, they will heat up on use but then cool down if you allow the fan to do its job free spinning. Any grease with molybdenum disulfide in it will work, just smear a bunch more into it so it doesnt just fling it to the case.

Honestly, kinda glad that HF stomped all over Milwaukee's grinder. I've never liked Milwaukee's grinders in all the years that I've been doing metal work (Corded or cordless). Would love to see you test the Metabo HPT and Metabo grinders, since those are the ones I've used for the past 6 years. Same with the classic 4.5 Makita.

for me, the consideration I put into buying angle grinders is primarily comfort. I prefer rat tail grinders over all other types, and I only have 2 cordless angle grinders and way too many corded ones because the run time of cordless is honestly a major turn-off. edit: I'd also like to add that for a cordless grinder to be worth it for me, I'd probably need to use a 12ah battery which would come with huge draw backs considering both added weight and cost

Hope you can do more Bosch tools. Just got a Bosch GWS 18V-15 SC, that claims 1500W equivalent. The adjustable speed made it possible to use with a wire brush that normally shakes you and the grinder so bad its unusable. And when the grinder starts jumping using the wire brush, it automatically stops. So far I'm glad I got the top of the line model.

Honestly I love this. Cordless grinders so far have just been a pick-n-pull solution and for shaping motocycles seats on my end but if I could get 20 minutes run time out of one while having even 70% of the umphf of the low end Bauer corded, it would be a revelation. We normally have 4 grinders chucked up with different wheels for a cage build day but if the flap disc one (only one used in car and out) could be cordless...game-changer.

I have the Milwaukee 7amp, got it roughly 4yrs ago. All of it is true, I was using it today actually as I had a good bit of grinding and the fuel grinder is a battery serial killer. 1st time in a long time I've used it heavy. I actually thought the grinding disk I had was on wrong it was vibrating so bad, and it did get rather warm. Has plenty of power for normal grinding cutting, but my hands started to hurt from the vibration. Cutting disk isn't so bad

I work in maintenance in a large factory and our corded grinders never leave the workshop and out on the plant we no longer take hacksaws or struggle with tight bolts , battery grinders with a 5aH battery for the win !

Great stuff, the runtime test is very informative. Angle grinders really drain the batteries, like a string trimmer, because of their continuous use, unlike the intermittent operation of a drill or chainsaw. I have to keep at least four 6AH batteries on hand if I'm going to make a day of it (while charging the expended ones)

In my shop I often have to grind for many hours at a time which makes corded tools a no brainer. My two work horse grinders are the dewalt DWE402 and the Hercules HE65. Id love to see how my favorite grinders stand out against the ones you've tested in this video.

In the 20 years I've worked in heavy fabrication, the 4 1/2" was the grinder of choice (easily used in one hand,) followed by the 9"

Thank you for conducting tests on these angle grinders. I have been using the Bauer 8 amp angle grinder for several years and it has performed exceptionally well. However, I am considering upgrading to their battery-powered brushless grinder. I already own several 5 Ah batteries and recently discovered that an 8 Ah battery is now available in stores. It would be interesting to see how the performance of the Bauer cordless angle grinder compares when tested with their new 8 Ah battery, particularly in comparison to the Hercules brushless grinder with their 8 Ah battery.

I own the 8A Bauer and have used it fairly rigorously for about a year now and haven’t had a single issue with it. Well worth the money. Also, as an electric motor mechanic and winder we use amps as a more accurate measurement of output power. Amps= watts x volts. In an induction motor at 120v, 1HP is 12A (give or take depending on efficiency). Being brushed motors may change that ratio but I’d assume it’s still a direct correlation. So ,in theory, more amps=more HP. In the induction motor world, manufacturers can lie about HP output but cannot lie about amps. I can pull 10 different 1HP motors and have 10 different amp draws. But they amps draws are supposed to be accurate.

Love to see the kobalt 24v grinder tested(KAG 424B-03). Far as I know, it's an older model. Has soft start feature, battery life is around 10min if cutting with disks on a 4ah. It was a good price when Lowes had it for $100 with a battery starter kit. I'd be happy to lend you mine, it's got only a little use on it.

I’d love to see that one too. I like the Kobalt dual action polisher. Measurements suggest that it has lower vibration than almost any other dual action polisher. And it’s really cheap.

In New Zealand Hitachi corded angle grinders appear to be most generally used and robust. Cordless, just whatever your chosen platform.

I have the corded Bauer. Bought it after ruining a cheaper grinder. It does the job well and held up to some pretty excruciating use cases.

I have a 10 rear old Milwaukee grinder that i like and a Hercules cordless. They both get used and have their purpose.

I've got one of the bauer corded grinders, I've been using it for about 3 years and it's still going strong. It might not be the best, but it's pretty good for cost. I've also got an older bauer cordless and they must have improved them. It's only good for sanding and stalls easy. Battery doesn't last long either.

With the "run time" testing, it would be interesting if you used these (with more platforms of course) to somewhat "test" the batteries from different manufactures. I say this because I see a lot of online reviews about batteries from Ryobi and Bauer dying much faster (even if the batteries should be equal)

I use the Bauer brushless with an adapter. I run my 5ah dewalt batteries on it no issues the thing is an animal.

I am so stoked about this series! I can't wait to see the big name brands. I like my corder Milwaukee but if I'm pushing it I grab my fuel all day everyday. The corded is weaker than the original m18 grinder😢

Please take a look at the 2680-20 M18. it’s an ok grinder but after a couple years of use it was giving me issues. Popped it open and found the rear bearing that supports the armature is microscopic! I managed to fix it but I know it’s only temporary, I need a cordless grinder but buying a more expensive m18 feels like I am rewarding them for designing a garbage brushed version.

This channel is amazing. Everyone is like “just get a Milwaukee”. But this channel shows you there are similar tools for a fraction of the cost. I don’t bow to any teams. If there’s a good deal to be had, I go for it. I do have mostly Rigid stuff, but I also have a ryobi pressure washer and ryobi blower and weed eater. My pole saw is made by Kobalt. Pretty sure I have a Hyper Tough drill around here. My drill bits are Husky along with my socket wrenches and torque wrenches

I would love for you to get a automatically controlled load. You could do like a dyno run of the tools where to increase the load from 200W at 5W/s or something until they stall. This would be like engine dyno testing and allow for a cool animated graph
