I am from Taiwan, and during my time in university and graduate school, there were often international students, many of whom were from Indonesia. They were all very friendly and talkative. : )

Democratic countries where its population is not highly educated are having problem of a huge gap between rich and poor. Election is a legal way for the rich and powerful group to block any socialist agenda. Just look at the poverty in India, Indonesia, Philippine; the poor are easily bought during the election.

Grace is so down to earth. Salute her, she is so pretty and humble, respect and speaking authentic Indonesian language... cool girl.
Malaysian here. I was in Indonesia between early 2000s to 2010. When I reached there I was shocked seeing the wealth discrepancies between the haves and the have nots. Being a middle class guy from Malaysia (like the majority of Malaysians) it was the kind of riches that I never saw back home. One of my friends gave her gf a car for her birthday. The other dude had a taxidermy stuff of a Sumateran tiger his dad shot some time ago. Crazy. The experience made me realised to appreciate more all the little things I had in Malaysia. That said, I love Indonesia and its people. Tho on the internet we often argue sometimes over very petty matters, the Indonesians I met regardless of their social status were kind, friendly people. I had a lot of fond memories when I was there. Good to see you having a good time there too. And yes, any foreigners who go to Indonesia will have to go thru that ritual of 'sakit perut, diare and muntah-muntah'. If you are lucky it could be some of the normal bugs. If you are not, you might get typhoid or cholera or Hepatitis A haha

Kuala Lumpur had many places like these squatter areas in the past. There was one near the river next to Selangor Mansions + Malayan Mansions (quite near the recent sinkhole that opened up). The people in the squatter huts also had to build a toilet on stilts on top of the river and used the river for bathing . Today, that area looks totally different. Indonesia will also one day catch up in areas like these.

As a Malaysian staying in a hot humid country, be careful with street food as the food can go bad fast due to the extreme heat nowadays. Aways go to clean and hygiene Restaurant with good refrigerator for freshness. As a local I also refrained from eating street food due to sensitive stomach.
Saya berharap gubernur terpilih sekarang lebih menata daerah kumuh jakarta..

I am impressed by how nice and kind Grace is. She even seem to genuinely enjoy that tour, too. I mean, even as someone who came from lower income family, I myself wouldn’t feel much comfortable to visit such a place. Poor family from smaller cities and rural areas don’t have to live in such condition. I came from somewhere 400km from Jakarta.

As an Indonesian, it honestly breaks my heart to see this. But what pisses me off even more is how the government keeps poverty alive. Like, if we wanna move the country forward, we need quality education. But instead, they’d rather hand out social assistance, like food and supplies way too often, making people feel like they’re being looked after without having to hustle. It’d be so much better if they put that money into free and quality education for the kids’ future. Wht really gets me, though, is that social assistance rarely reaches the right people and just gets used for elections, like, ‘Vote for me, and I’ll hook you up with monthly assistance.’ Honestly, it’s just wasting the country’s resources and using the people for their own gain🤧😭

Anyone who’s interested in visiting Indonesia, especially Chinese. I would recommend you to check out the documentary “the act of killing”. You’ll see their true color.
