I live in Calhoun County and went through Hurricane Michael and it was stilll a Cat. 5 Storm…..Trees are still coming down to this day cause the Hurricane also damaged the inside of the trees that are standing. Where you see clear cuts in the area like Calhoun County property owners where trying to salvage what they could and what they couldn’t salvage was turned into wood chips and haled out. Calhoun County took a direct hit by the hurricane. They said it would be generations before the area would recover …..YES, the park is an excellent place to go, just keep in mind what happened here…I love the trails and everyone is super friendly here in the area. Happy trails enjoy !!

We did enjoy the park and the trails. It would have been great to see the tree tops before the hurricane. But as you said, it's still a great area to visit. Thanks for watching and commenting!

We remember the trail being a nice one that we would do again. That whole area was different than we expected. Thanks for watching and commenting!

12:00 -- Needle Palm (Rhapidophyllum hystrix), one of the Park's many rare wonders. Other rare or remarkable species which may be seen in season include Elfin Shoes (Croomia pauciflora), Underwood's Trillium (Trillium underwoodii), and Indian Pink (Spigelia marilandica). Some of the Park's species range north well into Canada, including Atlantic Leatherwood (Dirca palustris), Jack in the Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum), Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis), Honewort (Cryptotaenia canadensis), and False Solomon's Seal (Maianthemum racemosum).

Looks like a nice place to stay. Do they allow tent camping?

Welcome to Florida. We are in Jacksonville so this would be a great check out run for our new to us Roadtrek whose name we found out is Sherman. Thinking about starting a KZbin channel just for fun. Thank you so much for the help and advice. Happy trails and safe travels.

We really enjoyed that park and your Roadtrek could maneuver into any of the spaces (some are smaller than others). Congrats on the new rig. Safe travels to you!!

The moving and reconstruction of the plantation home was amazing. As soon as I saw the warning sign about possible gator on or near the trail I would of gone back to the van and Google "ice cream shops near me"...🐊🍦

Great episode. Florida seems to have nice State Parks. We pulled out TT from the Downriver area of Michigan to Top Sail Resort state recreation area in Destin in 2019. If you want a great beach experience with dunes and wildlife, great birding including nesting osprey I highly recommend it.

We have seen some nice Florida state parks so far and we keep hearing from others about places we need to check out, so our list of options keeps growing. Thanks for watching and for the location tip!

we are planning on going this year. did you mark the sites? What were you favorites?
@Trekers
@Trekers 2 жыл бұрын
We didn't mark the sites as good or bad overall. We were on site 16 and really liked it because it was on the end of the row. Make sure you check the site sizes against the size of your rig because some are smaller or have a tighter space when backing in. We hope you enjoy your time at Torreya and thanks for watching!

You certainly had a prime campsite. Were you in that spot the entire time or did you move there once it became available?
@Trekers
@Trekers 2 жыл бұрын
We were lucky and landed that spot from day 1 -- we had it reserved well in advance though. Florida allows you to book campsites 11 months out and they often are snatched up right away if their in a prime park or in a good spot within a park.

@@Trekers We are pretty spontaneous and are usually still deciding where we are going as we load the van. We've stayed at 4 harvest hosts so far and all were same day reservations lol. Booking far enough out to get a prime spot probably isn't in the cards for us. Thank goodness for HH and iOverlander
@Trekers
@Trekers 2 жыл бұрын
Harvest Hosts, Boondockers Welcome, and iOverlander have helped us out a ton when we have a chance to be spontaneous. Needing to settle in for longer periods recently due to some work commitments has made planning required a lot more than we prefer. And it's crazy how far in advance a lot of states are booking up campsites now.

So no big trees and no canopy? Seems the park is a barren wasteland and not scenic at all except for some hills, meh undergrowth and a historic building. was thinking about going there some day, thanks for sparing me the disappointment👍
@Trekers
@Trekers 2 жыл бұрын
We didn't mean to set this up as a bad place to visit -- we would go back if time allowed. True, the big canopy is gone but there are still plenty of trees and things to see if you get out and hike there. But our videos are partly designed to give people highlights of what they might see some place -- so using them to plan a stop is great, but using them to not plan a stop makes sense, too. Thanks for watching and keep on trekin'! -Ari

Great video’ but I will stick with Michigan. I hate poisonous snakes and alligators and ticks (oh my)!

@@Trekers I still think you should try Tennessee. It does have poisonous snakes and ticks, but no gators. After Michigan it is my favorite state. It does get some snow, but really not that much to get upset over. My parents lived outside Crossville, Tn and I loved it.

Yes! We have friends in Tennessee we need to visit, too, so that state is on our short list to explore.
