Do your tortoise automatically go back inside the shed/hide when the sun sets? Or you have to coach them back daily?
@TheArcticReptileRanch4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and thank you for the question. They do indeed go inside at night time on their own most of the time. On warm nights however, they often stay outside instead. There are times that I have to coax them in but luckily that is rare.

What an incredible setup! I really enjoy watching your videos, they are so detailed and informative. I'm big on fish, which is what my KZbin account mainly features but I also have 3 young Hermanns tortoises here in the UK. I've been watching your videos from years ago and was blown away by your ingenuity when setting up irrigated indoor enclosures. You are an inspirational tortoise keeper who doesn't just recite things heard on forums but you actually take a scientific view on things and gain your own understanding. I just wanted to say thanks for the incredible videos, I hope you keep them coming! I can't believe you don't get more views. I will continue to spread the word amongst my reptile social circle. All the best! Alasdair Aquatics

You can glue those carpet tack strips along the top of your fence. We had to do it at my moms in Phoenix to keep tweakers out

That is a great idea! I may also add ramparts, a moat, and crocodiles! You are actually the second person to suggest that. I am seriously considering that method.

You can use bubble wrap to cover the polycarbonate for insulation, I use it for my greenhouse

Hello there. Awesome videos. You have helped inspire me to get my first tortoise. I had turtles in the past so i know just how much work they are. I like the cherry heads and red foots but i am open to any tortoise. That being said. Do you know of any respectable suppliers that will ship tortoise to Canada? I live in Newfoundland. (Almost as cold as Alaska) Keep up the good work. Thanks, F.H.

It's coming along nicely! Once the Galaps get bigger, I'm guessing this will be the future Russian, Leopard, or Redfoot enclosure?
@TheArcticReptileRanch6 жыл бұрын
Thomas, the plan is to build paddocks and smaller box-like houses for the non-giant tortoises. Once I’ve built up other facilities, this barn will only house the galaps. Though I foresee the need for a second structure this size within the next decade.

idk, but from here it looks like your AC (if that is one) is tilted towards the inside of your building which in turn will disallow proper drainage from the back end. it should slant towards to back. is that a drain pipe coming from the back end on the exterior?
@TheArcticReptileRanch6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the observation, I'll turn it on, test it out, then make adjustments if necessary. I appreciate your keen eye!
@heatherstickler35206 жыл бұрын
The Arctic Reptile Ranch you’re welcome! I have made this mistake before. if it is tilted inwards, don’t bother testing. It can take a while to start leaking inside or down your wall-trust me. Just go ahead and make it slope towards the outside.

Can cherry heads also have the zoo med forest tortoise diet?
@TheArcticReptileRanch6 жыл бұрын
Matt, yes, cherry heads which are simply a locality of Redfoots can eat the forest diet. Will they eat it is another question. Every tortoise has their own individual food preferences so I recommend getting a small container of it until you know if your tortoise(s) will eat it.

Maybe an electric fences will help. Good for keeping unwanted animals out. And its good for people too.

New name soon?

BB, no I plan to hang on to my roots for this channel and keep its original name. It makes for great conversation and it is a tribute to the struggles of keeping your favorite critters in the far north.
