I have a question, is okay if the tortoises sometimes eat the sand and dirt that are on the leaf? because many times when i give my tortoises some leaves, they get a little bit dirty because of the ground
@GardenStateTortoise Жыл бұрын
Yes that’s ok as long as they aren’t constantly consuming large amounts of it.
@cryssanie Жыл бұрын
@@GardenStateTortoise Our tortoise will sometimes just eat straight grains of sand or dirt from the ground... It's not out of hunger, he's well fed, and I don't think it's from lack of calcium, because he has a cuttlebone in his enclosure and he nibbles on it from time to time. Why could he be doing that?
@wewe-pc9vn Жыл бұрын
Do you know for sure whether your tortoise is a male? And what speciem is he (Hermanns, radiated, etc)? Eating large amounts of sand can cause an intestinal obstruction. If he doesn't eat enough of the cuttlebone, try algal lime, my tortoises prefer it. Just put some in a flat bowl. If your tortoise doesn't stop eating sand, I would change the substrate (again, depending on what speciem he is). English is not my first language, so I hope you understand everything.

One of my tortoises spent a long time gnawing on a dog bone picking off the little bits of flesh. I stayed with him to make sure the bone didn't splinter but when I've asked about tortoises picking on bones I've been met with a total blank. This is the first time I've heard of this. He clearly enjoyed it. Should I get him the odd small bone?

Dude my Egyptian tortoise got a little cut in it's back leg after some days the cut is healed but the same leg is swollen

Might be good to have an x-ray done on the leg or check for internal infection. Or, best case scenario the swelling goes down on its own.

Love turtles. I have several box turtles on my property who are pretty friendly. Freedom comes to my office door most days and waits for me to come out and greet him. He has this re occurring nasty cyst on the side of his face that comes and goes. I did a little research the first year and it said it's due to moist conditions(which I have) or Lack of Vitamin A. I started feeding him a little mango to see if it would help. Any suggestions?

I have a question, I have a Russian Tortoise who refuses to eat leafy greens. I have tried giving him a variety of things but the only things he eats are zucchini and dandelions(flower, leaf and stems) when available. Is there anything you suggest I try to feed him? and is it normal for a tortoise to have preferences that differ from the majority of the species? I want him to have a variety of things and get all the nutrients he needs but he seems very picky.
