Every time I've tried cold bluing I had trouble with black coming off, like you did. I tried sandblasting first, and then used very fine steel wool during the bluing process. Finishing with my homemade gun oil to stop the process. After several rubs with a oil damp cloth, the black never came off again. I do hot bluing now, but if I could talk to my earlier self, I wouldn't have gotten into it. It's more trouble than it's worth. Very nice work. Love the videos.

Hey Mel Nice finish. Have a M70 AB2 all prepped waiting to assemble. Been sitting here for 8 months Ha!Ha! Started building Cetme C. Another learning curve. They are the cheapest build you can do right now. The party's coming to a end with Uncle Joe at the helm. Harold

Hey Harold, I bought a ‘C’ kit buts it’s actually for parts, don’t plan on building it. The party is dying out for building that’s for sure. Old creepy joe is definitely screwing things up, and not just for gun enthusiasts.

I’ve had great luck finishing my barrels and receivers with the Ginsboy2003 method he presented with his m70b1 build many years ago. He uses Mark Lee express brown before bluing. Gives it a very nice dark rich color.

Same. He has made some videos recently, but not build content. I owe my ak building addiction to Zeke Shoots and Ginsboy.

I'm in the same process. But wow, I've never seen cold blue come out that nice. I've tried and tried. Now I know what I have to do.

I was thinking of doing the bath method, but in a plastic bag to line the tub and effectively minimize the volume of oxpho blue I'd need.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to try this "stupid" way of blueing...lol. I did a couple of stamped builds this way and after some handling they matched the original wear of the parts kits. 👍👍👍
@bacon1564
@bacon1564 3 жыл бұрын
I did it just for giggles on a Romanian build where the kit was really worn, thinking it'd just be a temporary thing. I hit it good with steel wool after and it matches the patina almost perfectly even though the Romanians were parked. With all the money and time I've spent in acetone and Gunkote it turned out to be one of my favorite finishes on my builds lol. People knock it but I've used it on barrels too and it holds up fine imo, not like it's a Colt Python or something.

Yeah, I turned the 80% into a 100% like 7 months ago. Then I decided to saltwater etch the receiver. So two other videos have been made for this Tortort receiver. So the first two were kinda part 1 and part 1 extended, lol. So yes, this is part 3. It’s a “common core” series.

Check out some of the anvil videos. He had one where they went over bluing, and it didn't take much equipment. Most of what you need you could get by going to home depot, and Walmart.

I put cold blue ( the gel kind ) over a Childers Yugo that had that kind of oxide finish. has held up quite nice in my case without stripping the finish.

Yeah, I have two akm (sheet metal) receivers that have been dunked in bluing as you see in this video and they have been just fine so far.

Does the face of the bolt actually rest against the barrel when it's in battery or is it resting on the cartridge shoulder? I know you need the extractor clearance, I was just wondering about that inner bevel, if it would affect anything.
@Mel64d
@Mel64d 3 жыл бұрын
The bolt and chamber face are almost touching yes. A cartridge has a little wiggle room between the two, that's why the bolt will close with ease on a live round. The head space is set with a Go gauge that is a tad longer than a live round. There needs to be room for a bit of expansion. If everything is good the firearm should work properly as designed.
