I hadn't seen or heard of Arex firearms until about a year or so ago. Saw a 1S and loved the look so I bought one. Very well made and the weight is just right. This video makes me glad I made that purchase. I believe he has another video where he went to their mfr facility in Slovenia. I'm definitely a fan of the firearms now. To get this level of quality at this price range is not that common anymore. SIG is too caught up in making a dollar these days and their quality is suffering. I have a couple SIG handguns and the feel of the 1S seems a little better for me.

I carried a standard P226 and P220 when I was in law enforcement. I am curious to know if the Legion line has tighter tolerances and less slop than a standard production line gun. I have put thousands of rounds through Sig pistols in all weather conditions and I have not experienced a malfunction of any type. However, I did not submerge my pistols in water, sand, dirt and mud and torture test them. This Arex has me rather intrigued and I am considering getting one just to take a look at it in depth for myself. Great job to MAC for the videos, definitely food for thought, so to speak. Semper Fi!
@BossPredatorAcoustics2 жыл бұрын
This was my thought as well Matt. The Legion seems to be a very refined pistol with incredible attention to detail and a masterful trigger job. I suspect that it does have tighter tolerances than a standard P226, which one would perhaps expect and hope for in their top of the line platform. However, perhaps perfection/refinement comes at a cost. May be one of the reasons that the AK47 and SKS are such beasts/performers when it comes to reliability in the field under brutal conditions, whereas an AR15 tends to be more finicky when field conditions get sloppy. Most fellas aren't going to run their weapons under these conditions, however, in a SHTF situation, I think these kinds of tests have merit for perhaps getting a good idea of what one might expect from their firearm of choice under the most challenging circumstances. Be interesting to see how a run of the mill P226 would handle this test. Enjoyed the video.
@ferrabras Жыл бұрын
@@BossPredatorAcoustics I agreed. Bench instruments are great and precise, but you can't take them to the field. The question is the precision and repeatablility of the shot. We need to know if Sig Elite is trading reliability to precision or not. Great video.

Law enforcement sig fan here too. I am actually issued with a sig sp2022 (little bro of the 226 that i like too) some guy at the service had to replace it after rescue a civilian who fall into la seine in Paris. But our "brown water" police use the same p2022 as well So i guess it's not like water. fun fact: the sp2022 was built for France and to be the navy seal pistol befor the 226
@chrisdufor-pulliam490110 ай бұрын
I suspect those tight tollerances in a high quality, metal gun means that it needs a break in period to be reliable AND HAVE A MUCH LONGER SERVICE LIFE. So i think the 2 guns have different longevity. That matters. A gun easy to shoot out the box is great...if you dont shoot a lot, dont understand cleaning, dont plan on passing it down to your kids. It worked. Thats ok. Thats what budget owners care about and thats ok too. But if you care about longterm use and reliability then i still wouldnt rule out the Sig. I bet that over time with consistant, old school cleaning the Sig could sing like a bird. Its often not the gun, its the shooter and the relatiinship that they build together over time. Theyre probably equally great but in different uses/maintenave. That Rex is likely to die at the same high round count that the Sig starts to work flawlessly.

I've always found high quality in firearms from that part of Europe, whether Czech, Croatian and now Slovenian. But we tend to be a bit prejudicial in regards where firearms come from. I remember trying to sell Croatian HS2000 pistols for 200 bucks to gun retailers and did not do well, then the gun disappeared for a year or so and next thing you know we were selling the Springfield XD pistols like hot cakes.............of course it was the HS2000 with Springfield's name stamped on it..........go figure!

I'd say it's more about marketing and having a reputable name than which country it came from. HS Produkt obviously doesn't have the marketing ability in the US that Springfield does. Hardly anyone would know about an HS 2000 if not for Springfield. And HS doesn't have an established history like SA.

Oh I know what you're talking about. lol I had a VP9, but from my experience mines was a little different in it's finish compared to a friend's VP9. His VP9 had a good coating on it(almost looked like one whole carved piece of metal) and mine had a light coating that I could slightly see the milling marks(straight horizontal lines) on it. I guess mine being a sort of early batch was the reason, maybe. Both of our guns were quite reliable, had only 1350 rounds through mine so I can't say for sure. Tim working on doing another test with the VP9 is definitely good and I guess it'll make amends to us all, well mostly to those who had a gotten a bad taste in their mouth from it. When I saw the test, I just shrugged since I know I'll never really be that hard on my gun, especially being OCD with most of my stuff. lol

I am curious to see how an older(pre 2007) Sig pistol compares to the brand new one. IMO and observation Sig's quality has declined since the New Sig Sauer Inc with headquaters in The U.S was founded independent from the Swiss/German company. There may also be a hinderance to quality now that Sig have come out with an overabundance of color options and variance where being trending seems to be the focus.

Would looser tolerances in the ARex account for improved reliability in the torture test compared to the Sig??

+Military Arms Channel plus I'm not sure how accurate a shake test is. I'm by no means a Sig fan boy and the failure of the legion was miserable just wondering why the stark contrast. Would like to see some actual specs on tolerances but I can do that research. Thanks again
@MrSmith3368 жыл бұрын
Tighter tolerances help prevent dirt/sand/mud from entering the action. That's why in a mud test the AR is reliable and the AK will behave similar to this Sig Sauer.
@benjaminmauck38678 жыл бұрын
+Bang Switch I believe part of what makes the AK so reliable in adverse conditions is the looser tolerances (i.e. Looser fitting parts and sloppy fit) which may possibly allow for greater debris but lessens a the likelihood of that debris gumming up the parts. (Room for play/error). Sorry can agree with you on that comment. But I'm no expert.

Nice video 👍 I’ve had the chance to shoot around with that Rex and was impressed. Also own a P226 Legion among many other brands. The tolerances are just a bit tighter on the Sig which may be the reason for this. Kind of like comparing a higher end 1911 with a quality import from Turkey or the Philippines. Those imports will actually be more reliable even though the 1911 snobs will scoff at ‘em.

i think so. well i hope so. actually i think an older internal extractor or short external extractor 226 would have kept going like the rex zero 1. especially if it says "made in germany" on it, even though mine is made in exeter. i dont actually know if it would have done better but i really want to believe it would have haha. i dont like the new longer extractor. i dont know if its better or worse, i just dont like it. but im fine with the long extractor on my hk uspc.
@bryanm4358 жыл бұрын
+jacob manalang I only own two SigSauer pistols, but I love them. I also own US, German, Austrian, and Czech made pistols. But there is something about my NEW - Non-W. German made Legion that is just downright sexy-infectious to my soul. The new longer extractor is pretty to me, but to others it's not. It is however, 3 times as STRONG as the previous short extractor, and is able to apply more force to the rim because of the length and fulcrum-effect. It's also more robust, and should last a freakin lifetime. I love my MK25 as well, it just isn't as easy to shoot or as accurate as the Legion, Bruce Grey REALLY knows how to make a trigger run in these Sigs! The Legion isn't meant to go through this crap shown in this video, it's a precision tac-driver that is perfect duty, range, & self-defense, sitting inside my BlackPoint with a SF-X300U underneath it! This vid did nothing for me but made me smile while petting this sexy-ass Sig and hearing it purr!! One Happy-ass Camper!! 😎👌🏼🔫😍

Legion kinda reminds me of super cars, function flawlessly and fast(driving on road), but performs miserably in other terrain(dirt, off-road, etc). But then again we are talking about firearms here, especially coming from SIG. Given that reliability is their selling point attractive enough for spec ops to pick it up. Might want to buck up SIG, I would view it in better light if at least the gun operate reliably(like Rex Zero) regardless of price point of SIGs line(from basic model to top-tier Legion model).
@kostergratis7 жыл бұрын
Nice vid! did not expect that result. But its likely due to the fact that the sig is a range gun with some tight tolerances. At the range you could probably get a better group with the sig (I hope due to the price!) but in a defence situation in the field the video speaks for it self. I would like to see a torture test of: Beretta 92fs / M9 HK Mark 23 CZ 75 sp-01

I am a Sig and M&P fan, and I've thought about this A LOT. The only problem I have with the Rex Zero is that it is almost an exact clone of a Sig. I have fully disassembled and reassembled all the weapons I own while cleaning them, and although I can only find a couple videos on the Rex Zero, I have found a couple, and the Rex is almost exactly a clone of a Sig. Anyways, I started thinking, how the heck did the Rex slaughter the Sig in the torture test when it's basically the same gun? Came down to this for me, I could be wrong, but all the other handguns MAC has tested to date had "external" extractors, while the Rex has an "Internal" extractor, so I think that protecting the extractor from debris is causing less, or in this case, no failures. Then I started thinking about how not going into battery could be an extractor "problem", if the extractor is "gummed up" then it wont open to "wrap" around the casing causing the weapon to be out of battery, the other failures being an extractor issue are self explanatory in my opinion. I wonder if you went back to one of the weapons that performed "poorly", even the Sig for example, and just laid the weapon in the debris on the non extractor side, if they would perform better? MAC if you read this, I know you are a very busy guy, but do you think you could redo one of the tests in this manner? Either way, thank you for the entertaining, and informative videos! Anyways, good on Rex for making an existing weapons platform even better, but they did build off of the Sig.
@robveach686 жыл бұрын
He lays all the weapons he tests on both sides. Why give an advantage to the Sig that the other weapons didn't get?

I'd be interested in seeing that too. I've had my ARX coming up on 2 years this Christmas. I've never had a failure out of it, but then again I've never tortured it, aside from feeding it some very lower power .223 that choked a couple of my other guns (ACR, Tavor SAR, and MK18 as i recall).
@stemapo948 жыл бұрын
Yep, I think is one of the most reliable rifle outside, beretta and Italian army, have tested it a lot in battlefield like Afghanistan (hot, sand...) and Italian alps( snow,cold,mud...)
@the_frijoless36608 жыл бұрын
I think the sig was built to tighter tolerances and specs (more of a match quailty instead of full on ruggedness and reliability) of the model and therefore makes it more prone to stoppages as shown I think a basic p226 would have faired better since they are manufactured to "loser" tolerances.
@rusticspoon61038 жыл бұрын
Also gonna agree with this.
@CCW19118 жыл бұрын
SEALS used the 226 a long time so that alone says the basic design is good. Not that they didn't have problems at first with frames cracking but that was due to the super hot TZZ ammo and the amount of training rounds going thru some guns. The frame cracking issue was addressed and I haven't heard of any further reliability problems. This test does prove that this Legion won't tolerate sand and grit in the action.
@binos88438 жыл бұрын
Don't know if you follow MAC on instagram but he answered this, and believe it or not but the Rex is actually tighter in tolerance than the Sig is.
@CCW19118 жыл бұрын
I don't do instagram. Where can I see the numbers comparing the two?
@joemaniery10148 жыл бұрын
Actually it probably opposite. It's made with looser tolerance to make it feed more reliable with a wide range of ammo but leaves gaps that allow dirt and Debris to affect the rails and slow the action. That's why the ammo was erratic and barely falling out
@project86xero6 жыл бұрын
Just got a p229 legion rx. The gray guns coating causes issues when the guns new. It's thick and flakes off on the rails easily. It even sticks to the rails and since it's the same color it's hard to see. If it was a normal 229 it might not have had that issue.
@ilcctinstructor68705 жыл бұрын
Read my comment if you want all test results to date in order of performance. I was bored today, so I tallied up MACs testing results to date. The names are in order of fewest issues to most for the elemental test. If a tie occurred, the number of gauntlet test issues determined the order. If testing was stopped, I counted up the number of un-fired shots and counted those as issues. I also divided by tiers to put things in a pragmatic perspective. Enjoy. Flawless Tier (0 Elemental Test Issues): Rex Zero 1 Archon Type B H&K USP45 S&W M&P 2.0 FN FiveSeven CZP10C Glock 17 Walther PPQ M2 Beretta APX Excellent Tier (1 Easily Remedied Elemental Test Issue) : CZ P07 Beretta M9A1 Remington RP9 Beretta Px4 Storm 'Good Enough' Tier (2 Elemental Test Issues) : Sig Sauer Mk25 Hi-Point C9 Century Arms Canik TP9 SF Disappointing (3+ Elemental Test Issues) H&K VP9 [standard spring] S&W M&P Sig Sauer P320 Compact Colt 1911 Sig P226 Legion H&K VP9 [heavier spring] FN 509

I ask since so far, the only way I've been able to find to get one is order one directly from K-Var. I'd *like* to buy from a local shop to support them, and also to handle the pistol and see if it's comfortable for me to hold, check the trigger pull and reset, etcetera. Barring that, I'd rather order from somewhere like Copper since you do provide a *lot* of value in the form of information born of practical experience, and would pay a premium vs. a bottom dollar online vendor to chip in to support your continuing efforts.
