The mudslinging is basically a wedge issue used by the very wealthy that is used to make sure the finger of blame for our societal and economic issues does not point at them. And by them I mean the very wealthy and their pocketed politicians who are bent on extracting and concentrating wealth from society into the hands of a minority and, while doing so, shove the economic health of the majority of society into the shitter. We don't have a housing crisis because of people arriving in boats. We have a crisis because very wealthy individuals and institutional investors are buying up properties and land and governments are pressured into not building affordable homes because that would bring land and house prices down. If immigration went straight to 0%, we'd still have as bad a housing crisis. Pointing fingers at immigrants is how rich people avoid being seen as the real cause for the crisis.

My Brexit-supporting friends hate me pointing out that leaving the EU has made us an ideal country to get to, once you get here it's almost impossible to get people removed, we left the Dublin agreement, when we left the EU, when we were in the EU we could remove anyone to the first country of entry into the EU. The basic fact, is we have swapped "Christian Europeans (in most cases) with immigrants from all over the world and all religions, and colours, the Brexiteers who on the whole are racists, find that a hard pill to swallow as most can't accept that they were wrong for voting for Brexit and that a consequence of doing so has increased immigration.
@johnrussell3961
@johnrussell3961 Ай бұрын
Italy and Greece have since got the Dublin Accords clarified. They are for returning asylum seekers to the member they entered by. All the others are covered by a new migrant accord, They are the joint responsibility of all members. The migrant accord includes plans to stop them coming. Aid for the poorer nations outside of Europe. Sunak tried to rejoin the Dublin Accord’s, and was told the UK would have to join both. That would mean the UK would have to take thousand from Italy to help reduce the load on Italy.

Brexiters being racist on the whole does not compute. 72.2% of the population voted in that referendum and the majority voted leave. Now, if they are racists on the whole, how come this same majority have not voted nationalistic political parties into power by voting for them in General Elections? I think Brexit was more of a protest vote against a fucked up economic system shitting on working class people rather than full-on racism. Racists are everywhere, even in those that voted remain. Stop using the racist slur for Brexit, it's simple-minded.

So, all of those British subject in the Israeli army are in breach of this law. Basically, we don't integrate. We colonise. (Obviously, some countries we integrate better in, assuming they used to be colonies with a heavy English cultural influence)

British integrate very well in English speaking ex colonies ie Aus, Can,US,NZ , SA etc etc. They key thing here is language, the inabilities to learn another's and appreciate anothers culture. Education has a role and purpose. Those who vote year on year for tax cuts and decimation of public services, those who look away while corporations export their wealth and high wage jobs have encouraged massive under investment in large swaths of the population and country. The man from Conservative home knows this well. His clients aren't the rioters, they are leafy cotswolds summer hat types. This hasn't just happened over night, its been in the making for years. The country is failing on multiple levels but not fairly investing in the eductation of all is the greatest mismanagement. These people can be manipulated at the flick of a switch. The question no is who's finger is on it?
@notwhatitwasbefore

Perhaps British people can try to lead by example by integrating in to cultures when they are the imigrants (sorry expats) in to nations like Spain, doing things like learn to speak Spanish and not live in 'expat' comunities but integrate in to the existing cities, towns and other settlements, Otherwise British people (all of us) have no right to blame others for not doing the same when they come here. Also we could differentiate between people and not lump them all in together, but lol nah. Also I think this needs to be said more, If someone organsies groups based on age and keeps bringing peoples age in to it they are using age as a divider which is braodly called ageist. If you do the same with race and I mean continually bring up race or ethnicity and use it as a way of marking groups as different to one another it should be correctly linguistically as what it is, just like the the above example using age, its the same concept but for some reason these people seem upset when this is pointed out

There's a thriving 'expat' community of immigrants, knocking about in 'Brit' pubs in the Spanish Costa region. Many of them voted for Brexit, without even thinking that it would come back and bite them, as they too longed for 'British values'. My elderly mother is a Farage/Laurence Fox/GBN fan. She complains constantly about women in 'hibbabs' and non-English speaking immigrants who refuse to integrate. When she was nearly 40, we moved as a family to Canada from leafy Surrey. The language spoken out there was almost the same, but the culture was different. My father was a doctor and had immediate standing in the community as a result. In Surrey, my mother had had social status as a doctor's wife and received unearned respect and privilege as such. She tried demanding the same respect from Canadians and was promptly put in her box. The general feeling was that SHE wasn't a doctor, she only married one, so get back in the queue. She never attempted to assimilate, never accepted the culture of her neighbours and ended up spending most of her time with other British immigrants. Dad eventually capitulated and agreed to come back to Britain. She still doesn't appreciate the irony of her criticising others for what she so badly failed at herself.

Maximilien's take on this is absolutely brilliant. I've lived at varying times in my life in France, Italy and Cyprus and I can confirm that most Britons I've met in those countries do NOT integrate and yet people in Britain have this 'thing' that they expect foreigners who come to Britain to do just that almost immediately. Furthermore, Britons living abroad class themselves as expats and NOT immigrants, therefore distancing themselves from the immigrant label which they consider a dirty word as well as something to be avoided at all costs. Immigrants are the cause of all of Britain's woes according to the uber-Tories, Farage and their St. George flag-waving acolytes roaming the streets. I look forward to the time when common sense, tolerance and basic decency return.

Not sure how Montgomerie can say ‘the people’ did not ‘consent’ to what’s happened over the last 14 years. People voted the Tories into power time and time again. In fact, in September 2019, Montgomerie was appointed as "social justice adviser" to the Prime Minister in Number 10 Downing Street. On 31 January 2020, he said on the BBC's Politics Live that the role lasted until the election was called in November 2019 and that he was now in discussions with Boris Johnson regarding a new advisory role following Johnson's success in that election. Sadly, he seems to have found disfavour with Johnson’s other friend, Dominic Cummings so from that point on he started bad mouthing the government. He recently said if he lived in Clacton he’d vote for Farage and if he lived in Boston and Skegness he’d vote for Richard Tice.

In regards to trying to integrate people. You do actually have to try. The area I live in has a large immigrant population. And my mum is a vicar and in Thursdays hosts an English language class at her church. People come whether they are Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Atheist, Jewish, Sikh, whatever. Having that available allows people to integrate into our society because they can learn the language. If you want people to integrate. Fund things like that. Because if you can speak the language, you can talk to people, understand their cultures, and when you know someone. This fearmongering doesn’t work. When I have Muslim friends from 10 different countries, fearmongering Islamophobia just looks idiotic.
