I doubt it is humanely possible to build 40 hospitals by 2030. That's seems an impossible task. We had the coronavirus pandemic, we have rising inflation, huge debt. I have no idea where the government would find the money to finance so many hospitals. It was a ludicrous announcement from Boris the Buffoon!

Not even asking WHAT DIFFERENCE WILL THESE HOSPITALS MAKE? FFS, I work at a clinic for Physiotherapy where we have a medium size Gym attached - if I want new equipment for the gym, or a new device to use to diagnose or treat patients with, or as one of our current projects is working on, increasing the size of our facilities, either by renting more space in the building or moving to another location - then we have to make the case of what difference will it make! What is the cost compared to what we can expect as an outcome. Some of our equipment and devices cost a ton of money, so we have to consider, how and how much will this influence the end result, do we have existing means that do it just as well or even better, how many users can we expect, will we have to add a fee for use, does it take special training to use it effectively and if that’s the case then how many hours, etc. etc. Just making a statement about building new hospitals says nothing about what it will mean - will it decrease waiting time, increase survival ratings, how many beds will this add to the total available, will it give patients a better experience while being hospitalized, will it decrease the risk of transmitting disease/infections among those hospitalized, will it decrease time of transportation from home to hospital, is it all ambulatory care units, or are we talking large scale hospitals with a huge number of highly specialized units?

Any PM or MP that lies should be removed from office. They hold a high standard of service to the UK people and if they lie about 1 thing what else have they lied about. Its time to have the truth and nothing but the truth from our MPs. Its time to have law abiding MPs not law breaking MPs. We already know why, and it’s a multifaceted issue! Some of them being: There’s media networks owned by oligarchs who want to influence policies. It’s to easy for politicians to decline interviews if they have reason to suspect they will have a hard time justifying themselves and/or policies. Social Media gives them a platform, even of other media won’t - so it’s very hard to try to hold them accountable. Media Culture today is highly flawed in their interpretation of what balanced means. (Example; having a highly educated specialist in virology and immunology debate some random Chiropractor or Osteopath who make weird claims about vira and immunology is presented as a debate of opinions rather than a debate between a specialist and an idiot)

Owen Jones covered this in an interview with a journalist. Much of the problem is that journalists entering the career come from privileged backgrounds where they can start on unpaid internships simply because they can use family money to get them through that period, while that's practically impossible for the poor working class. Factor in that the employers will like take on people that don't rock the boat and you can see that it's generally subservient to the rich right wing

I do wonder what has happened to Question Time. I started watching it back in the days of Robin Day, a man who was by no means perfect but who suffered fools badly and would indeed take the politicians to task. Of course politicians spin the truth and the best ones use language very carefully, and I’ve always hated people saying ‘They all lie!’ It’s lazy and wrong. But recently we do seem to have a number of people in public life (not just politicians!) who appear to genuinely believe that they can just lie without any consequences. And at the same time, a journalist making a private comment about another person and letting off steam while believing himself off-air gets punished.

I work in a large acute hospital. We have a refurbishment and extension of our Emergency Department planned. This, apparently, counts as a new hospital. Furthermore, our existing ED is woefully (probably dangerously) understaffed, so there’ll be insufficient staff f this extension ever gets built anyway.

I've been asking myself the same question for a while Paul. How is there nothing in place for this? How is there nobody sat in parliamentary sessions who's job it is to call out lies with facts and tell people to answer questions properly if they dodge them? The speaker will kick people out if they're unruly or say something truthful that hurts someone's feelings, but AFAIK he never challenges people who lie or don't answer questions. It baffles me that there's no one in there to enforce rules and challenge lies/unanswered questions.

We had all this a couple of years ago. In reality they planned to refurbish six hospitals and then provide seed funding to up to another 34. Seed funding covers only the cost of applying for refurbishment. Then one of the six hospitals in line for refurbishment is actually earmarked for reducing in size and the land sold to a property developer! The 40 new hospitals lie also appeared in the ‘Levelling Up’ white paper.

This type of mendacious behaviour to persuade just enough people that there is a plan to persist in telling them that a hospital building plan exists despite all the evidence to the contrary, is why the UK needs stronger checks and balances on abuse of office as well as a ministerial code with the force of law enforced not by the head of government but by Parliament.

I could be having an extension build until I see someone laying foundations or bricks it's not real. I rarely watch question time. They seem to rig the audience. A recent one from a strongly Brexit supporting area seems to have deliberately selected an audience on their Brexit supporting views. So lets say 70% voted leave so 70% of this audience would be selected that still supported leave. That's my understanding anyway. Would it not be more realistic to just throw open the doors to a quota from this area regardless of how they once voted. They can be asked if appropriate during live program whether they voted to leave.
