The Cruise N’ Comfort is $5000. There's a bunch of 12V and 24V minisplits for Vans and Truck Cabs that are in the $400 to $700 range. They're meant for the back but maybe they can work under the van too, and they can be flush mounted without being angled.

It's such a small space. An ecoflow portable ac would work its around $1k. It heats and cools and spend the extra money on a large battery and alternator charger. And still have a couple thousand left over.

Cruise N Comfort is the one I figured I'd use if I didn't roll my own, and make a heat pump system. Scary that I know enough to do that. I've been watching your videos on this van build in random order. Back to sound deadening. I was thinking of going heavy on the sound deadening on the wheel wells, roof, and firewall but skip it elsewhere. This is because it will do the most good there for road, engine, and rain noise. Otherwise my insulation will provide lots of sound deadening. Sound transmission, like heat transmission, is greatly reduced by breaking the sound conduction path. A little planning can both improve effectiveness for sound deadening and insulation. Insulation, I was thinking of using a closed cell stick on foam product made for insulating metal hulled boats. I was going to install it in 1 cm layers with dense vinyl sheets between them. The combination makes a good sound deadener. It would be better with a foam sheet that is more elastomeric, but I don't need sound studio quiet. Also the more elastomeric foams are poor insulators. 3 layers would give me roughly an R-7. About the same as the best spray in foams can do. This is the modern equivalent of the heavy fiberglass and lead sheet sound deadener used in yacht engine rooms. Reflective bubble wrap insulation like Reflectix requires an air gap to work. Except in the ceiling, hard to assure there is an air gap. My plan was to buy an industrial IR reflective sheet and stick it on the inside of the foam insulation. Yeah, it only reflects heat back in. Using any stick on product, ask what the temperature range for both the product and adhesive. If one wants it to survive in the SW desert the high end needs to handle 200F to 220F. That sun is brutal. Those are my thoughts. Right now I'm just camping out of the back of a Tesla Model Y much like Bryan Hauer is doing. I have a home base so it works for me. If Tesla had a full sized van, I'd be converting it right now.

Some constructive observations and questions....1. After having my oil filter hit by a rock from the road and cracking it, I'm questionable of any pressure filled device on the underside of my vehicle without some type of shielding. 2. In your refrigeration schematic, the thermal expansion valve has both the suction and discharge lines running through it, why? The TXV is designed to change the cool liquid refrigerant from the condenser back into a low-pressure gas prior to the evaporator. The evaporator then makes it a high temperature gas, which gets compressed by the compressor and discharged to the condenser coil for cooling. 3. Alot of the other systems DC or AC operation put the compressor outside with the condenser coil, an reason why this outfit choses to place it inside the cabin? Thanks

Good for you, Tory. It's not just for comfort. It's a necessity as you have found more days of triple digit temps in the SW than ever before. Where is the A/C filter? Change it regularly. It should be at least a MERV 8 or 9, go up to MERV 11 if you have allergies. And locate your CABIN filter and change it about once a year or two. That's an easy DIY. Ebay has them for about half the price of an auto parts store.

We bought our van for less than this one component of your build: $6000. (+ probably 5k of maintenance cost) First van build vibes.

For a van, that's got to be the most cumbersome and unnecessarily, overly expensive system you could go with. I agree.. makes it almost ridiculous to even consider getting any professional work done on a camper van.. :(

nah, that instalation was very bad, both parts, inside and outside, inside It took to much space on the floor, and now every space above that area is dead.....

I actually am installing a shelf above that that leads to the where the bench in my van is, it will be a little hidden cat cove for my cat because she loves hiding. 🐈 It could have been storage but I like to live my life so that my cat knows she’s the greatest thing in the world & everything revolves around her ✨

Hi :) I would reach out to any van builder you plan on using and ask if they have dogs ahead of time just because I’ve been in a few van shops and they all have dogs 😅😅 So just be cautious that this is very common.

Ugh. Love your videos. Considering the undermount system for my van build. But you say and misuse the word "literally" like a teenager.

You are wasting cooling energy by having the sheet metal in the van without any type of insulation.
