I used to fix those vcr's in the United States. They were expensive. They cost about 8 hundred dollars, and most repairs I did would cost about 2 to 3 hundred back in 1996+. Nice Video. Thank you.

Interesting, I didn't know these were sold outside Japan. Maybe there is an English-language service manual.

@@timf-tinkering I worked on allot of Sony ones. I remember that brand too. they were troublesome. Toshiba, and sony were the only brands that I have ever seen in my shop in a 8mm video player, recoders.

Nice video Tim as usual. Re the sticking friction wheel, if its just lack of lubricant (or congealed lubricant), could you not remove it and clean it, then add fresh lubricant? Maybe it needs a spring to bias it back to the head drum which may have lost its spring. Might be hard to replace?

Yes, ideally that's what I would like to do, but I can't find any service documentation for the machine, so it's a daunting prospect!
