I was able to purchase one of these from Home Depot recently. I'm NOT affiliated to Toshiba and not paid by them to write any of this. This model is currently out of stock in my area but one or 2 trickles into stock now and then. So far I've owned a Sharp, Toyotomi, and Hisense portable AC. And I have an LG window AC. While the fan noise in all the ACs can be loud at max setting, the fan noise is constant medium pitch noise. Constant noise is easier to tune out so the fan is usually not a problem. The problem is usually the compressor, which has a deep rumble that travels throughout the house. For most AC units, the compressor switches on and off constantly. The compressor has no "medium" or "low" level. The compressor is either full on rumbling or totally off. This is a big annoyance if you're trying to sleep and the compressor switches on and off trying to keep the room at a constant temperature. So here's the subtle thing about THIS Toshiba inverter AC. Although the compressor CAN get pretty loud and rumbly when it's trying to cool a very hot room, this inverter compressor also has the ability to run at a quiet low setting once the room has reached a desired temperature. That means the compressor doesn't click on/off every few minutes while try to keep the room at a constant temperature. The compressor just stays on all the time at a low and quiet setting. And this doesn't disrupt sleep. This is a very good design. The only thing I've noticed about this unit so far is it emits a very high pitched sound that is noticeable to me at low and medium fan setting. It's not noticeable at high fan setting. I'm guessing this high pitched sound will be noticeable to some people but not noticeable to others. So time will tell if is a big problem for most consumers.

@@mattricard26 So far it's working good. Cools down my garage and works with no issues. I was skeptical at first too, especially after reading some negative reviews. Honestly tho, I think a lot of people think this will do the job of central a/c. It won't. It's great for what it is but it doesn't replace central. It's great for smaller rooms or garages but I don't recommend for a leaving room or whole house. My advice, spend the money on the bigger one. It will work faster and not as long/hard as the smaller units. The shorter time it needs to run and quicker cool time = the less electricity you use and more places you can use it. Like I said, don't expect central a/c results. It works great, just set it up properly and give it time to do it's job and enjoy. I bought the 550sq ft one and have a two car garage. Works exactly how I thought it would with realistic expectations. And remember winter is coming. Good luck friend! May the gods be with you, the old and the new.

A heater won't need to exhaust anything. You are directly heating the air unlike an AC which transfers heat from the environment to the compressor which is then cooled by the exhaust.
@CTSSTC2 жыл бұрын
To keep the conservation of energy in balance it transfers the cold air to someone on the other side of the world running their AC in cooling mode.
@LilBoyHexley2 жыл бұрын
@@TakeItEazy77 It would be exhausting cold air. It runs the heat pump in reverse, and the cold air still needs to be sent back to the outdoors. Without exhaust where would the cold air running over the evaporator go? Back into the house? That'd be a complete waste. Do you believe it could be "vented" into the bathroom exhaust, or maybe just positioned in the bathroom door to cool the bedroom but exhaust its heat into the bathroom with the bathroom fan running?
@halflifeheroes64712 жыл бұрын
The problem with this is that the exhaust fan for the bathroom is just that, only exhaust. Air will sneak into your house from other areas since it can't hold any pressure. So if you dump heat into the bathroom and exhaust it out everything you dump out will be seeped in other areas and possibly leech from your cold bedroom to be pushed out back to the bathroom. Will your bedroom be cool? Yes. Will it theoretically warm up the rest of your house and especially the bathroom? Yep! Not ideal, but it would technically work in a very inefficient way.

Hi, mavirek . Thank you for your question! These units will need to be vented through windows, as the included installation kit is for hung and sliding windows only. The Midea Encompass staff, especially in the parts department were very helpful and informative. Unfortunately a lot of the relevant parts are on backorder for months out. Really disappointing that the cheap plastic hose connector is so poorly designed on such an expensive, good quality AC unit otherwise

@@david029014 I’ve had a few portable ACs in the past 10 years and my expectations are that it will keep my apartment cool and most importantly it will never work as well as a Window AC, Central Air or a ductless split system. The previous system I had was a Whynter portable AC (dual hose) it worked for about 7 years and finally this year started acting up, blowing the circuit when it would start up. When I stumbled upon this AC unit I saw the reviews about how loud it was how people were having nothing but problems but knowing that the internet is usually where people go to complain rather than say how much they like it I decided to give this AC unit a chance so I bought it at Home Depot 3 weeks ago. The apartment we live in is from the 1930s has single pane windows and little to no insulation. I live in Portland and last week we had a crazy heat wave where we got up to 118… The first 3 days the AC unit kept our apartment about 20-30 degrees cooler than outside. The final day when we hit our record of 118º the inside of our apartment got up to 92º. So our apartment was still 26º cooler than outside I consider that a success! As long as it doesn’t get up 95 out this AC unit does a great job keeping the temperature we set it to.

Yikes! I just bought this unit at Home Depot and it was one of the pricier units offered. I just spent a lot of time trying to follow the instructions in the manual that accompanied the unit - very confusing! Now it’s out of the box and trying to figure out the entire installation according to the video. But reading the reviews, I am wondering if I should just return it and not mess with a unit that might not perform the way I am expecting it to. Very disappointed.

Also, English major it's a drill "DRIVER" not "bit". The key to remembering the terms is to attach the appropriate verbs: a driver bit drives screws, while a drill bit drills holes.

Could you please tell the robot to simply and I do mean simply explain what on earth is "dry" mode? All we need to damn know is if you're using the unit to cool a room which darn hose do we need to input is it the top one or the bottom one? Dude, we are not air conditioning EXPERTS like you make your video user friendly. It's okay that he's an AI robot, but make it simple. Damn dude!
@toshibalifestyleus58113 ай бұрын
Hello @davidrectorthesinger, when you use the dry mode, it operates as a dehumidifier. In this mode, you need to connect a standard garden hose to the upper drain plug of the unit. When using the cool mode, you have the option to drain the unit manually or continuously. If you choose to drain the unit manually, you will need to open the drain cap at the bottom of the unit, where the water is collected in an internal drain tray. This tray needs to be emptied near a drain hole; once emptied, you must close the drain plug again. Please note that both caps should be closed when draining manually. Alternatively, if you want to drain the unit continuously without emptying the drain tray, you can connect a standard garden hose to the upper plug (the same as in dehumidifier mode). The drain hose should then lead to a drain hole or sink. In this case, you wouldn't need to move the unit to drain it. However, the unit relies on gravity for continuous draining, so the hose must be positioned lower than the unit.
@davidrectorthesinger3 ай бұрын
@@toshibalifestyleus5811 I was sooooooo pissed that u spent so much time explaining how to install the vent. Please understand that, that is not difficult to do. However, not connecting the water hose is critical. Please reconsider making it simple when it comes to the condensation hose. "Ladies and gentleman properly venting the water from the unit critical. To remove condensation water from the unit unplug the upper water vent and make sure that you have a place for the water to go to. Until you know how much water is pulling from the air in the room, I'd recommend placing the hose in a bucket." That first night I used the unit I had a bucket full of water which overflowed onto the floor. I had a six foot by two foot water overflow on the floor. I bought a longer vent tube and inserted out of the window. Dude, it's really important to tell people this. All that time you spent on installing the window vent wasn't as important as properly getting/venting the H20 either into a bucket or out of the house.

I have this unit in my garage in texas and it works decently, as good as I’d expect it to for the price I guess but the remote doesn’t work and the app is absolute garbage made by some copy paste programmer. I expected more documentation and app/wireless functionality for this thinking that they’d provide that because this is somewhat of a name brand but it’s obvious this is a copy paste hack job rebranding of midea bullshit. I paid good money thinking it would be iOT future proofed unit but instead it’s more dumb than my fridge. I hope Toshiba goes out of business because they’ve definitely fallen off the tech loop. Get with the times! I feel like I was baited into buying this
