What a great interview! I really, really love listening to Animals as Leaders and listening to Tosin playing but the jury is out to whether I enjoy listening to him talk more. He just comes from such a refreshing, open minded point of view and explains his case with such ease. Tosin is such an innovator and in my humble option he is as integral in the evolution of guitar as Les Paul, Leo Fender, Stuart Spector, Paul Reed Smith and all of the significant guitar manufacturers of the last 4+ decades that people rate as the blueprint of the instrument.

I wish I HAD been Tosin twenty plus years ago, but Tim Pierce gives fifty three year old me the reminder that it doesn’t have to fade away for simple chronological progression. I got stiff fingers when I was 20, but I didn’t worry or dwell on it, I’m not fumbly because I’m older, I m fumbly because I don’t play enough, and haven’t for some time. That’s something I can totally change. Thanks guys.

Great interview Rhett, very insightful! You are both very talented... but It hurts to hear and see more and more how some musicians, and other artists and performers, are now forced to degrade and label their own work as "content" and basically coerced to deliver that "content" in pill-size chunks in order to please an algorithm to catch a short attention span demographic, to try to keep their relevance and survive the cannibalizing environment. I know we all have to learn how to deal and live with today's standards, but I don't like them at all.

Great interview. In my 57 year old mind, amps will always be a thing. I'm curious as to how young guitar players get together with other musicians to "jam" if they don't have amps. As a kid, you grabbed your amp and your guitar and took it to your buddies house to jam. Do they just plug into laptops and listen through headphones these days? If so, how do they play with a drummer? If playing a small pub or party, even your modeler is going to need amplification for the people to hear, so why not just use a guitar amp? I know; I'm old...

If you go through 1000 les pauls to find the one you like and get your tone from, then the tone uniformity is a detriment. You don't want to be stuck with the same palette all the time. You get a lot of tonal variation just by using a different mi, mic positioning, room you are in...

@Isaiah_McIntosh4 жыл бұрын
Yeah but on average people don't buy albums. Like misha, sithu and aaron Marshall have said, they make albums because they like albums but that's not how they make money. Or tim who basically thinks its mandatory to have some singles doing well whether albums are nearby or far away. It's just way more important than albums, even a classic album.
@Chaosdude3414 жыл бұрын
On average, however, most people stream music. I could see album releases turning into something similar to where vinyl is. I don't buy my music since I use KZbin Music, and I know plenty of people use Spotify in a similar light. I personally thought it was incredible to see an artist accepting the reality of streaming, and trying to plan out something with that taken into account. It's important to remember that albums started because of a piece of technology and constraints. Just spitballing here, but I wouldn't be surprised if our expectations for albums came from the expectations for a live performance. Live performances were the only ways to hear music for a long time, and so technology defined our experience then as well as now. Cheers.
