Thanks for uploading. I plan to travel to Dallas, TX on April 8 to see this. It's interesting to see how big of a time difference it will be by just traveling a few miles to the east of downtown Dallas. At DFW Airport (between Ft Worth & Dallas) you will get about 2 and a half minutes of total solar eclipse. But just in the eastern parts of Dallas you'll get at least 3 minutes 49 seconds of total solar eclipse. Of course being in the 'center line' you can get the full 4 minutes 21 seconds.

thats how it is, the farther you go, the faster the duration will drop. It is likely to be cloudy in Dallas. I have tickets booked and it sucks.

Traveling to Texas to view this. Is there any chance any roads will be closed to prevent hordes of people overwhelming certain rural areas?

Missed the 1999 Eclipse in the UK ( typical UK weather - perfect the day before and the day after, ☁️🌧️☁️ on Eclipse Day 🤬😢!). Saw the ‘06 Eclipse from the deck of a traditional Gulet in Turkey in the company of Steve & Amelia Goldberg from the HAS. Came to Wyoming from the UK for the ‘17 Eclipse - perfect weather, and now booked into a B&B in San Antonio for ‘24 - hoping (🤞) to meet up with Steve & Amelia again after Eclipse Day!

Is the blue line the umbra and the grey swath the penumbra, or is this chart only showing the umbra? Asked another way, does this chart and the grey area show the path of totality only? It's obvious that the blue line is the center and directly under the path of totality but I've seen other charts that have quite a wider area of lighter grey for the penumbra with the darker grey in the middle being the umbra path.

If you are talking about the Xavier Jubier Google Earth map, the blue line is the center of the path and the dark gray area around it is the umbra and area of total eclipse. The eclipse is very short at the edges of the heat path but rapidly gets longer even a few miles inside until it is almost 4 1/2 minutes at the centerline in Texas. Housing may be less expensive at the 3 minute point say which still gives you an excellent experience and the chance to go closer to the centerline that day. But do expect traffic. The good thing is if weather is good, people can spread out on many back roads. Bring plenty of comfort, food and water in the car including a means to go to the bathroom in case of an emergency.

Jer 10:1-2; Gen 1:14-16 Eclipses are warnings for us to recalibrate our calendar to the true heavenly clock. Oct 14 is a 2 wk warning for the Feast of Trumpets at the Full Moon that begins the 7th month on Oct 29th. Same for the April 8th eclipse- 2 wk warning for the true new year - 1 Abib on April 24.

I live in Burnet Tx… we’re expecting hoards of people. Our counties surrounding us are concerned about the number of people coming in and roads turning into parking lots!

You have a big eclipse festival. You are lucky to live where you do not have to be out on the road! But if you need to move due to clouds, try after the partial phases have started. It will be exciting...enjoy!

Is the path of totality that narrow? Other maps show it to be much wider.

it looks wider because its zoomed in on it, it is really that narrow

In this case the path of totality is 115 miles. It varies from eclipse to eclipse depending on the relative apparent sizes of the moon and the sun. moo. Is casting an elliptical shadow because the sun is not directly overhead. You experience totality for as long as the moon's shadow is over your location. At the edges of the path you are under the edge of the roundish shadow and are under it for a much shorter time than when the fattest diameter of the shadow is over you at the centerline. But the shadow shape fattens pretty fast even a few miles from the edge so you can get to the two or three minute point pretty quickly as you drive into the path.

How do I get a hold of Joe to get permission to use his photo on a cake? I am entering in a cake competition. I am home baker, and will be entering the competition next year in Texas during the eclipse. Thank you for your help Sandra.

The sun and moon are the same size and orbit over the earth within the firmament. The moon, which is a plasma luminary, does not reflect the sun, but has her own light. Genesis 1 and actual observation in REALITY.

Why show October westher history? This Eclipse is in April and there is a greater chance for adverse conditions in Texas during the spring. Head as far south as you can to improve your chances for clear sky.

The weatherspark weather data is for April. There is about a 65% chance of clear to partly cloudy weather which makes seeing an eclipse doable. But definitely there is no certainty in Texas, just a better chance than elsewhere in the US. A system can cloud the skies for three days of we are unlucky. But very few years show the entire path in Texas clouded out. With mobility there is a reasonable chance of success.
