Thanks, just got. a Total Gym Fit from.Craigslist and did your routine. Wow, as a 67 yr old devoted cyclist the rest of my body sure lost proper flexibility. I will be doing a slow rampup with your routines. Great pace and this will be easy to memorize after a few times.

You do you! 👍 Set it on whatever level you feel challenged at. That's one of the benefits of the Total Gym ... it's easy to modify settings or the exercise to fit each person's fitness levels and goals. Thanks for watching!

@@MrsPetTreatLadyI’m a brand-new beginner and did my first actual workout today. Most of the exercises were on level 2, squats were level 8, and a couple of things were 3. I was slow and clumsy, and the workout took me 55 minutes!?! It was the “Starter Workout” from the training cards. It took me that long just to do 1 set, 15-20 reps for each exercise! I spent too much time having to look at the exercise pictures, read the instructions - for the -nth time - and try to get on and off the thing without staggering or falling or breaking my back. (I haven’t found any ab muscles yet - I think they died long ago.) I’m going to try this workout next time, and stick with it till I can do it fluidly and with a good flow, hopefully flowing more like David than like a drunk old rhinoceros. Seems to me to be quite an effective and efficient workout. I’m 70 and out of shape, but I’m determined that I’m going to “live my best life” from here on out. Hang in there - we’ll be upping our levels pretty soon! 😊 👏👏👏

For a beginner I wish you’d talk about how we find our correct height settings.

Great question! For the beginner I would suggest starting low and slow and focusing on proper form. If you need help on proper form, check out my playlists (arms, shoulders, legs, abs, etc.) that show how to perform each exercise with proper form. Once you got that down, try increasing based on your rep range. If your rep range is 10-12 and it feels too easy, go up a level. The last 2-3 reps of your rep range should feel very challenging like you are struggling to complete them. Once those last 2-3 are no longer challenging, go up again. If at any time your form starts to suffer, drop back down. Hope that helps!

Hi David, this is a great workout as I learn my TG. Also I like this good, simple warmup. I wanted to ask you if you have tried the TG chrome handles, and if so, what do you think of them? On some exercises, the stock handle strap rubs against my wrist uncomfortably, and more importantly, rubs and catches badly on my watch. My watch tracks my timing, heart rate, calories burned, and overall cardio average for the total workout, so don’t want to work out without it. So I’m wondering if the chrome handles give better clearance and comfort to wrists and forearms on some exercises? Thanks very much for all your generous advice and encouragement!

Glad to hear you like the workout! Thanks for watching! I own a pair of chrome handles, they provide a different experience. They stay clear of my Apple Watch, but sometimes (depending on the exercise) they rub or put pressure on my forearms, which can be uncomfortable. If you go to the community tab on my channel, I just posted a poll with 2 photos, so you can see how they rest against my forearm. Hopefully we will get a few other people providing their feedback, too. I think the chrome handles are OK, I like how the handles swivel. The biggest drawback to them is that they can sometimes place pressure on my forearms, which doesn't feel that great (but it's not painful). I tend to stick with the stock handles, but I am going to give the chrome handles a try again over the next few days.

How many days a week can or should a real beginner do for this workout? I am so hoping this workout helps me.

To start I would shoot for 3 days per week with a rest day in between each workout. On your rest days, do some sort of activity, like walking or another activity you enjoy. As you start to feel stronger, you can increase your Total Gym workouts to 4 days per week or every other day. Start small and keep building. I don't know your fitness level, but even if you can't get through the full workout, do as much as you can, and then do a little more the next time. Good luck!

I would suggest 3-4 times a week for 3 weeks. Make sure to continue to challenge yourself by raising glideboard. After that, try some of my more advanced workouts like the Chuck Norris workout, Plank Challenge or Interval workout. I also just added the Long and Lean workout which would be a nice step up from the Beginner’s workout.
