AHHHHHHH. I WASTED SO MUCH TIME.... FOR NOTHING!!! I am in shock as to how many hours I spent trying to bleach my hair, and how little effect it had. It was a total waste of product, money and time! I'm really glad that I could find some sort of exaplanation for why it turned out so bad, so hopefully you learn to not make the mistakes I did!!! hi everyone! here's the update: AVOID coconut oil if you use organic/weak bleach. USE coconut oil if you use active bleach(like a concoction) or salon strength bleach. ALSO dont mind a silly video like mine instead double and triple check with your box dye or stylist for personal adjustments. My box dye specifically asked that I allow my hair to breath, and next day clean dry hair. Hope this clears things up! :)

The issue with many people who DIY a bleaching process at home is that they aren’t using enough product. You’re not coating the hair enough and then you. Slide your fingers up and down the hair and remove even more of the small amount of bleach you have on. That’s why your hair isn’t lifting. The coconut oil also plays a part, but you need to saturate your hair more of you want any type of result

You should apply coconut oil the night before bleaching and keep it on. Also, the reason it didn't work was because you need to really saturate your hair with the bleach and put a shower cap or a plastic bag or foil over it since once it dries it stops working. Hope this helps

Honestly, just use coconut oil afterwards to help moisturize your hair. It doesn't actually do anything in conjunction with bleach or anything else. I see so many people on KZbin do the coconut oil thing (mostly hair fails because I'm an addict) and I'm curious where the idea even came from??

Hey hun! I’m only 3 minutes & 45 seconds in to your video but I wanted to let you know that the reason your hair isn’t drying after applying coconut oil is because it’s oil! When you apply a super high volume of oil to your hair, it won’t dry down the way you are thinking it would. Oils bring moisturize to your hair so when you put an overload in, it can’t dry! Just a tip for the future!

You're hair is already extremely healthy/naturally oily,applying the coconut oil created a barrier and you also need to actually apply plenty of product for it to work.....

Organic bleach isnt known for its lifting strength because it lacks the (damaging) additives that strip the hair. If you're not stuck on organic you could try LIVE bleach that lifts tremendously. However since your hair is naturally dark it's most likely you'd need a few sessions to get to blonde safely. But your hair didn't fall out so I count this as a success (for a home bleaching 😂) best of luck

Coconut oil is a life saver when using regular old hair lightener! But sadly it will be counterproductive with other hair dyes/lighteners. If you’re not adamant on organic, blonde brilliance from sally beauty is the best! It’s a 9 level lightener. I use it and I’m a natural level 3 or 4

Hi! I think it would be best to use coconut oil only when getting bleahcing hair professionally as higher volumes of dye will be used, and also at higher strengths.. Otherwise, I don't think I'm qualified to say! I would look to Alivia Wright's comment! Shee seems to know what she's doing haha. Sorry I wasn't much of a help :(

Sofia Is cool I'm not a hairstylist but I dye and bleach my hair ALOT and from what I've learned from experience and the advice from hair colorists is that coconut oil acts as a moisturizer to stop hair from drying out too much when using drying products such as bleach. It's not necessary with semi permenent dyes as all they do is coat the hair shaft and not penetrate it so it's not very drying. However some permenent dyes do come with ammonia which is particularly drying. Depending on the brand, some stylists apply coconut oil 30 minutes before coloring to lock in moisture. So, depending on the type of dye you're planning to use it can help.

First off an Ombre is a style and Balayage is a technique. Also bleach or color shouldn't be put over coconut oil. It won't pass through the oil. Spend the money and go to a stylist. OMG!

Actually coconut oil is great with bleach. Not sure about organic but many hair stylists use coconut oil application thirty minutes before bleaching and bleach over it as it adds moisture to hair that dries out when bleaching.

yeah that's what I thought too! but because my dye had chemicals with a larger molecular structure to begin with, it was twice as difficult to penetrate each strand for the bleach effect to take place :(
