$45,000 per year and lower is not taxed. When Social Security is taxed above $45,000 we pay very little in taxes as opposed to when we would have been taxed when we had a higher income when we were working.

"losing half your overtime pay" I think is reference to the amount of tax they take when you make a paycheck double what you normally would. In HVAC I would go from 30 hrs to 90 hrs, my checks were huge but the amount of tax taken was staggering. Its conflating 2 things.... I think... It's what he does. Hell take something that people living hand to mouth gripe about, say hell fix it, and they line up thinking "finally, someone will treat me *fairly*"
