sad thing is for all the comments made about one being better than the other, the people you talk about realy don't care for it. God made them all different musicians and they all learn from eachother. mike, derrick, alex, kevin, doobie, butch, if you ask them they will tell you they know who they are. humble and non compeditive. all they do is learn. we should try to be the same.

Butch plays everything. Everything. Anything. Everything. Jazz, Gospel, Classical, Blues, Soundtrack music. Everything. Mike is very chordy and mainly uses leading tones and kevin sticks to chromatics and inversions...therefore, they play like many musicians I hear regularly. But, Butch is beast. Completely unpredictable. I wish you coud hear Butch play live. He's beyond cogic.

Search for these videos of Butch: James Ross @ Rob Woodie & Butch Woodie Butch Woodie -Encourage Yourself - Organ Butch & Cory1 Butch & Cory2 Ralph Mason "The More You Learn, The More You Earn" Featuring Chris Woodie B.R.A. (Butch, Rob and Alvin) And these are just a few...He's in a ton of videos that don't have his name. But I've heard all of these licks before. Nothing out of the ordinary. A couple of raised fifths and subs. Mike = leading tones and Kevin = chromatics...

Man, Butch and Mike are BOTH beasts!!! I've been knowing/studying Butch close to all of my life. I've also been studying Mike for a pretty long time. (longer than alot of others) BOTH of them can put a dent in a piano/keyboard and they will MURDER a organ... But, there is no reason to compare... I'm sure both of them can play alot of each others stuff. And I'm ALSO sure that there are some things that one them as Mike or Butch can do. So lets just leave it at that! lol ;-)

I actually heard Butch live in St. Louis last year and he did not stick out to me. Don't get me wrong you are right the man is a beast, but when I heard him live. . . COGIC most of his stuff on youtube. . . COGIC. If he is beyond COGIC I just have not heard it yet. Please send a link if you have something. Now you can't compare Mike Bereal and Kevin powell 2 regular musicians. They fuse styles together. If you are telling me you predicted everything in this video you are lying.

I most def respect the fact that this is a shed. I have nothing against shedding. I understand a shed comes from within but at what point does someone shed to the point that we cant tell what the song is at times. I am a organist. To often I see and hear organ players get caught up in lots of strange chords that just dont make sense. Its like a sermon if nobody can understand it but you who are you teaching. Same with playing if you are the only one who gets it whats the message???

Yea i have heard of him he is real good but we are talking two different things here "Butch" is mainly a COGIC player so is mike bereal but in this video right here mike and kevin powell are incorporating fusion and crossover jazz into traditional gospel in a way that is sounds like its own new genre once again sickest thing on youtube. "Butch" is not in the same category

I notice that a lot of oldee musician are very judgemental when it comes to gospel music, if its not done their way then its not done right... I believe that even tho song was a more jazzier rendition they are still praising god at the end of the day isn't that the most important part of the display.?

Who dat talkin' 'bout some "overt!" LOL! I love it...By the way, the word is invert and that's still not what he did...he modulated...the crowd reaction is cool...it's there appreciation for how it makes them feel. Shed sessions make involve worship. However, people want to appreciate musicianship and different ideas...(in the minds of some maybe we shouldn't ever do that?)

@madspenda well u know, what i am not here to knock that , if they inspire, Then in all sincerity that is great, so i am not gonna knock for that, Them being talented i never said that it wasnt, I am not trying to be rude, or "hate" because if you met and knew me that is not even 2% of my personality, the only thing that matter is that ministry is being uplifted, in "MY OPINION",this song requires a more majestic feel then what is being done,I am a musician As well,

Uh you seem to reference "jazz idoms" and such in a manner that says these chords and phrasings are only condusive to a non-christian / unchurchy, if you will, setting. all music was originally heavenly until that day when satan was kicked out. music is a gift givin from above but like most other things humanity has currupted it. Assuming you go to church, and do you not get dressed up? how many killers and such wear a suit and tie? should we ban those from church?
