Try using the onagers solid shot against the soldiers. Especially when units are grouped. I find that the explosion of the flaming shot really is only useful for debuffing units. But the solid shot hits and rolls through the enemy. Making for some fantastic killing power when they are clustered.

Here's a strategy I'm considering for my Jutes campaign, once I can actually get the game. I'd take Britain and Scandza, which should help you develop economically. Develop your buildings so that you can recruit Hirdmen and Huscarls (or whatever the Danish equivalent is). Send this large army, and a fleet to support it, and raid your way through the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastal settlements. Eventually, make your way to Crete and establish that as a base of operations (in true Viking style, using easily defensible islands as forts). There, I'd focus on a Wheat Farm (that province is very fertile), a military wharf, a pagan temple, and whatever building lets you recruit the best infantry units. From Crete, raid (or hell, settle) the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean. There are some seriously wealthy cities out there - Antioch, Tarsus, Alexandria, Thessalonica, Constantinople to name a few, and that's not mentioning the ones that aren't port cities. Or the fact that you can sail up the Nile a certain distance!

Just a fun tip... In my Danish playthrough I started migrating in turn 3 and set sail for Africa. I took Carthago, and now its 407 AD and I control the Africa region, one province in Mauretania, two provinces in Tripolitana and one in Libya.... Planning on driving out the Western Empire out of North Africa, built up strength and then remove the East and its client states from Africe..... All hail the North-African Danelaw!

Keep your armies in the north controlling and expanding your lands, and just use a fleet to sack and raid around Rome without taking settlements except to sit and retrain in. You've never really gone down that play style too much in your past campaigns, and if Viking forefathers aren't the right time, then when is?

This might seem like a bit too much micro managment but if you switch your edict to Warrior Rites on each province you govern you can get +1 exp on recruits which if you have a few provinces is amazing! Looks like you just need some better armored troops. I'm sure the Danes have some awesome armored axemen later. There's always Mercs even if they are mostly Tier 1, they're not half as expensive to upkeep and recruit as they were in Rome 2. PS. Raid Britain but don't settle until you've sacked / raided enough to upgrade your buildings / researched those expensive techs!

I think what you might want to consider is making certain provinces specialise in recruiting a specific unit type. you aren't going to be able to recruit them all from one province, so make one province able to recruit a high tier unit type, then have the other provinces vary it from there (like one province does infantry, another does cav, another does ranged and so on). I understand that this isn't going to be the easiest to perform, given how few you have right now and that you have to send armies between provinces to recruit, but doing this will allow you to have more competent units in your armies over all. you can also use the other provinces to build your economy.

Hey just to clarify about the disease, your armies have to catch it separately to your cities. If they are stationed in a diseased city then they have a chance to catch it each turn they are there. Then when they have it they take attrition each turn till it passes so if they are front line units it is worth moving them just outside the city other wise anyone can just come in and mop them up.

Create a FOB in Crete or Sardinia, since those are provincial capitals, and after that send your fleet to raid Constantinople since that's the most interesting city. Plus attacking both sides of the peninsula with your fleet would be aah-aah-aah-awesome.

Bring the DaneLaw to Britannia, might not be the smartest move you could make, and probably isn't. On the other hand, entertaining, and historically accurate.

Lionheart, I go back on what I said last video, Rome is not a good idea. First of all, as Hispania is Rome's last lands, their armies WILL be there, and as your troops showed, they are not capable against barbarians tribes, much less rome's cohors. Also, your land will be very divided and harder to control. Second: As Britian is a Roman based faction, they have cohors as well. I strongly advise you to not invade without first finishing your upgrade for your warband. I think you should stay with the current upgrade as the Hirdmen are much weaker and cost more. Thx and
@samisawright

Nordic warriors are your good infantry, but they are bleeding expensive, so if you have lots of nordic bands which you upgrade, its a massive hit to your economy.
@Robert24247
@Robert24247 9 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'd just raid the Britannia. Maybe northern France. Get better infantry, and secure a base of power that probably not many would attempt to invade or be tempted to invade. Set yourself up first. The only problem will probably be the juts as they are quite powerful already. Considering they are gaining land quickly, expect them to move closer to you at the same time. Kind of how it goes, the AI that likes to be aggressive likes going after the player, or if your allied, invades the territory's you want.

Go for britain. Dont forget to take out the angles too... If you want you can raid Rome and Iberia, but only raid them not conquering them, I dont see much point on conquering them if you dont have the areas around your homeland consolidated...

I love that you're considering war dogs now =] But in regards to the Spain/Britain I say you just raid down the coast and get an alliance with the jutes. That way you can replenish in their territory and continue raiding /subjugating in lands your don't really want to march an army to. Thanks for the continued videos =]

If you outnumber the enemy infantry with your one always go for a concentrated attack don't split up your forces. This is common war logic many generals lost battles for this reason.
@de4en6er
@de4en6er 9 жыл бұрын
If you keep all your men in one group in a line battle, your men will tire at the same time, meaning if your opponent has reserves, when your men are tired, the reserves will charge bring morale to the fighting troops and maybe rout your troops. Or if you outnumber your enemy in all ways I would charge back around a rear or flank charge and rout the enemy, true many generals lost because they spread their forces to thin, but many more lost because they didn't take the initiative

I would say itis as good Idea to go to the meditarainian. The romans won't have a real navy, and you should be able just to take out the less defended settlements. If you just sack and raze/subjugate the you get a realy good ammount of money. When your fleet needs to replanish or you want to beeld other ships, you could take a settlement with a good harbor, retrain your fleet and abbandon it so you can continue plundering!

Honestly Lionheart I think you need to just chill for a bit and work on getting better troops, I feel like your seiges and battles wouldn't be as bloody for you if you had a wee bit better troops, plus it's always good to have a leg up on everyone else for a while. (I know I'm a few years late and it means nothing for this play through but for future reference lol)

I was doing a good campagin as the Danes and had the most clutch battle ever defense of hafn and I lost Lothar sadly : ( he died during the battle but it was 2 general and 8 Nordic bands vs a stack of Germanic levies and archers and I clutched it so hard and won and after my end turn fucking Humbil (forgive me if thats not his name) got assassinated and they had no sons.

i'm going to be honest here, you messed up such an easy battle, you sacrificed your unit of cav for no reason, ok go after the oneger or whatever but you just let them get clobbered by the enemy cav while not paying attention, your cav is not supposed to charge in and stay there, charge in, pull back and repeat, micromanage your cav or just don't bother using them.
