It's actually INSANE that this is real! Knights of Honor 2: Sovereign is FINALLY here, and goes straight for the jugular, casting the die for that coveted title of best strategy game of 2022. But is it? Is the combined grand strategy campaign map gameplay, deep mechanics, and real-time battles enough to set it above the giants of Total War Warhammer 3 and Victoria 3? Stick around and find out, as this massive review of Knights of Honor II Sovereign also serves as something of an introduction, guide and tutorial of the game as well! Let me know what YOU think of the game and the video in the comments! :)

alot of hype for this game.. but we already had our total wars and empire earths and our age of empire's , i have been playing bannerlord for a week now and it seems the real pretender of A total war game , but with you as the commander and leader of your own faction until you pledge to another kingdom. this game "knights of honor " is just a recap of what already has been! it looks cool but that is all it does look cool! ;) paradox made cool games , and alot of game companies want to recreate it . to me it looks like a paradox game in it's first seconds but it becomes a ageofempire/empireearth clone if look at the battle! Some want to call it a total war game but total war has changed and not for the better so many times so i will not call it a total war game! because mount and blade to me is the real total war killer .

@@AndysTake I do hope the Developers sell well enough to add more to the base game to make it better like an actual timeline and age for characters along with more events to change things up in the campaign and easier information to process. Adding more skins and unique units would also help along with toning down the capture points.

One little pet peeve of mine is when strattegy games cut off central/northern scandinavia. As a nordic person myself, it's always fun to play in the region I am from, but doing this makes me not have to ever really look too much at the region, and the experience will always be so far off from the actual historical experience. It's like, a similar thing to just having a country called "barbarians" or " the sultans" or "the druids" or something like that. It feels very hollow, usually. But also, I want to be able to play in nborthern scandinavia, as the sami people, or other factions that may be there. One example of what I am talking about, when it comes to the warping of the feel of the gameplay is how in koh2 the entirety of finnland is just a small littel section called "the finns", and they are completly cut off from any land border with anyone, making htem in effect, a maritime nation. Like, wow, meritime finnland. How accurate.
@velvet3784
@velvet3784 8 ай бұрын
Yes, I am not even nordic but I am also annoyed by that. It is just so lame. As a fan of the first Knights of honor I have always wished it had Iceland and more of Scandinavia and finally Faroe as province... And then Knights of honor 2 repeats that same weird design choice... Disappointing! I mean no one does that anymore! It is just a odd thing to do. It just looks wrong and so weird. Also Paganism as just one religion...again. Not even Judaism or Coptic Christianity were added even tho they considered it! It needs more depth, not less! Especially if it has a sandbox feel to it

Men, people need to stop to think of new strategy games by small developers as "XYZ KILLER", because they never are. For reasons that should be clear to see for anyone. Building up this idea, that a game could "kill" (what does that even mean) another game is ridicilous and its a bad point to argue from.

I wish you talked about siege battles, it seems it's all we do in strategy games. In Total War, it's the most common type of battle and the reason why cavalry is completely useless. It contributes to the worst aspect of the Total War franchise by far, the fact that range combat is completely overpowered, especially on harder difficulties. Sieges are Total War's existential enemy, I wish another company would make a game with good sieges so Creative Assembly can learn how to make their own better. Bombarding an enemy to death with 0 casualties may be fun the first time, but it gets old real quick.

Haven't played this yet, but for field battles the capture points are probably there so the player doesnt corner camp the map or anything. I think they should have the capture points but you shouldn't instantly lose from it. Maybe you just get a significant morale decrease or something

Well, diplomacy does not achieve anything without a strong army as the deterrent and trade has to be protected. If you look at history until WWII, there was never any flourishing nation through diplomacy and trade without a military force waging wars to back it up.

I really like this game. Realtime battle and world map. about the crusade, from what I observe from my games is if you are a Christian kingdom and going for Jerusalem or the Teutonic Knights regions for a crusade. the kingdom of Jerusalem or Teutonic Knights always holds the captured lands but if your playing the Teutonic Knights or kingdom of Jerusalem and u accept the crusade all the lands you captured is yours. that is what I observe. and if you don't want your king to be chosen to lead the crusade. just make your king a merchant, spymaster, cleric and diplomat. Diplomat is also good for your king if you don't want your king in danger. order him maintain good relation to its subjects. (nobles, army, merchants, cleric and peasants.) they give good passive buffs, and make your knights do the heavy works. Clerics are good if your playing big in conquests and or any of the two kingdom (Jerusalem or Teutonic Knights) to maintain order to your new lands that are in deferent religions.

Make sure you have enough trades going on for the income. I kinda managed to build 3 armies now but also with help of another faction fighting the rebels. I also got a war declared, focused my army on defense where the enemy would come from, crushed the army and then the enemy wanted peace again because the loss was to colossal for him, which was funny to me. Then I would probably first go to peace again and when the troops get strong enough, try to attack maybe. In times of peace build stuff up and look for trades you can make.

The review was good, but throughout all if it I couldn’t help but feel like this isn’t the game for me. I have never been a fan of real-time tactics in strategy games, which is why I don’t play Total War games. The parts that needed the most development are the ones I enjoy the most in CK 3: diplomacy and roleplaying. This can be a great game in the future, but right now it obviously needs more time in development before it’s worth playing. Assuming the real-time combat can be auto-resolved (something I didn’t notice in the video) I would be interested in this game in the future.

I initially missed out on the original game when it came out because of bangers like Rome Total War which came out the same year and stole all the attention. (Imperial Glory is another one that suffered a similar fate which comes to mind). Some years later I bought Knights of Honor to have something to play on my laptop which didn't handle Rome very well. And I fell in love. Just like with Rome and M2TW, Knights of Honor was something special. The atmosphere, soundtrack and stunning 2D artstyle and visuals of the game grasped me right away. There are a few things about KOH which I hope they fix or improve for the sequel though. Its an amazing game, but I do hope that KOH 2 will dip its toe in CK territory and add a little more depth to the family tree, heritage and internal politics. Trade was too easy and OP and the cursed borders and snowballing of kingdoms was a bit too weird. Also titles should be earned and revoked based on certain criterias I feel. The Empire of Germany (or HRE) could end up being a single province in Northern Africa, but it was still called Germany and had the title of Empire/Emperor. All those minor details and nitpick aside this was and still is an amazing game whith so much heart and soul put into it. On a second or third playtrough the craks begin to show and unfortunatley despite being somewhat of a different game it falls a little bit short compared to games like Rome and Medieval 2 TW in many departments except from diplomacy. The foundation is solid though and I've enjoyed the game for probably 100 hours. But I do hope that KOH 2 will do a little bit more than being a reskin of the original game, with more modern graphics. By the looks of it they are luckily doing just that. -The supply system is a new feature which will makes sieges harder and probably prevent rediculous snowballing over the map. - The Manpower modifier to units makes the armies themselves bigger and stronger so you don't rely too much on, and conquer the map with only two overpowered marshals in the late game. And the various smaller upgrades to buildings is another new addtition. This looks great and I'm remaining very positive:D

Glad to hear it, Gentlesir, and thank you for sharing your memories! :) I REALLY want this game to succeed, as the bones here are fantastic, but it does lack a certain “umph!” to make it a true masterpiece, and I’m talking about those grand decisions, events, more personal character interaction etc etc. it’s relatively simple as of now or non-existent, but it’s still fun to play. So I hope the game receives the support it deserves and becomes even better over time!

How come the genre of strategy game has pretty much stagnated if not regressed in the last 15 years? Rome total war 1 is how many years old? Games releasing today look worse. Most of them MOBA like, or just remastered versions. Where is the innovation? Where is the new technology? Fresh ideas and a new scale of gaming? Anyone remember rise and fall? That's 20 years old, had such a good idea and a new concept of strategy, combining both third person combat and strategy. Why is nobody picking up anything new? Where is a game of thrones / lord of the ring total war? Where are entirely fresh and new and GOOD quality strategy games? 20 years later no progress worth mentioning.

Another way the game was easy to manipulate once you got the hold of things was the unbalanced trade. 2, or 3 marshals if your empire was large was enough to conquer the world after the mid game point because of the OP leveling and marshal skills like the defend ability. Also they couldn't die. The only one in your court that coud die was the king. So all you needed was 2-3 marshals and fill the rest of the court with merchants. In KOH2 this is remedied my making trade more balanced and addind the commerce "mana points" which based on the gameplay I've seen on KZbin works pretty well. The devs have also said in previous devblogs and interviews that they intend to make all the classes more viable and balanced this time around

As someone who has many hours in KOH i can say that for the moment it looks the same. The early game is slower and the AI gets better troops fast, but afther you get 5-10 provinces you can bild everyting more or less and then snow ball everyone whit 4 armies. Just send 2 armies at a town or you can even do it whit 1 army. The battle AI is very bad and it aways goes for the flank and then b-lines to you capture points. It also loves to attack your siege even to the point of suicide. They also rush in the marshal alot compared to the old game. It needs to be mentioned also that you have ekstra armies now because of the mehanic where you can buy a full mercenary camp to become a temporary army till the end of the war. I had like 10+ armies at one point and just whent from war to war whit them. You need to be careful tho since taking over a province afther you conquer them takes alot more time now. Also the fact that an upgrade of a building in one town upgrades all of thouse buildings in you other towns, curent and future means you dont have much to do in the late game in terms of building. Also it looks like Spies have less things to do. ( Unless i have been unlucky and they didnt get a chance to become a knight in the enemy kingdom). All in all it is a better version than the original but the main problem of mid and late game repetitiveness is there.

WHY DONT YOU THINK FOR YOURSELF Q JOIN US 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 TREASON!!! YOU DO KNOW I HAVE THE NUKE CODES AND THE FOOTBALL HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!! THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!!! WHEN DO YOU PLAY THE TRUMP CARD!!!! Until the world sees the TRUTH! “I was right about a lot of things and I’ll tell you this, I’ll be right about the election.” - 45 IT WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!! AUDIT ALL THE STATES!!!!! DEEP STATE CAN KISS MY ASS!!!! I HAVE NOT conceded the election! This is very important for what comes next. You see, if AZ decertifies their results the ENTIRE election is now in question. Congress cannot certify election until ALL states have certified. Just like a state cannot certify unless 100% of their counties certify, the same is true of a national election with the states themselves. As Trump hasn't conceded, he now has a right to contest the entire election and that will mean the remaining 49 states will have to conduct a full forensic audit as a result. Why do you think so many states are visiting AZ for the audit right now, including states that supposedly already went Trump and didn't have contested election issues? They know what is coming. Do you all remember prior to the 2018 election Trump signed an EO13848 making national elections a matter of national security? >>>Now put two and two together. If even ONE state shows fraud it calls into question the results >>>of the entire election. Being a matter of national security now puts it under the purview of >>>who as forensic audits are done state to state? If you answered the military you are on the right track. I AM COMEING THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!!That means they're playing along with Trump and im in control they've already given Trump back his power they've already reinstated him they reinstated them recently

Yawn, another overly complicated and (reality is so much cooler than gaming) type of game. The mainstream appeal is taking what people THINK of when they imagine a time period and glorify an ideal world as a ruler not what it actually would be like. I'm kinda burned out on having to explain what a game is as opposed to a history class. Is. It. Fun? That's literally all that matters - I, personally, do not want to balance every aspect of an army just to play a siege and have to wait 400 turns to accomplish something worth while because of "mechanics". The game designers need to chill - I'm in my home country planning to invade so we purchase the proper number of bananas so we can eat, then a designer says "oh also wouldn't it be sweet if we had to cut down the trees in real time and buy the logs from market but that market also is shady so we have to pay off pirate groups and then only if someone else hasn't purchased all the logs then we can hire a transport company to get them from the forest to our city, well not that city since it doesn't have a tier 3 docking tech built, so it has to go to the other city further away and then we have to hire another transport company but we didn't pay those log pirates in that region so now it's in holding by the governor you just elected but didn't earn his trust when you guys played poker last weekend so he's super mad about it still so now you have to let him marry 3 of your daughters I hope you're prepared for that but finally after that the logs have arrived and now we can make them into planks, then get iron, and we can make a catapult - OH NO THE BANANAS ARE SPOILED!" I mean just let me attack a city - stop with this type of game, please I beg of you!

I never played the first one but this game seems very cool, specially the battle system but... I don't know... If the game goes to the 16th century, where's colonization? Just Europe seems a bit... limited. What keeps me returning to EU4 is the flavor and replayability, every country seems different and plays differently with unique objectives, ideas, mechanics and decisions and we have a whole world to chose from. I think that's one of the most important aspects a new game should focus not so much in cosmetics. I'll give a try, ofc.

I think everything that was ok in the first game like country colours was changed (Bugaria is now almost the same colour as Byzantium, which just looks confusing, and vassal stripes are also worse) but the things they could have improved they did not improve enough. They added like 1 new religion, still no Judaism, Coptic Christianity etc. Borders are somehow worse than the first game.
