Total War: Shogun 2- Anti-FotS Proof of Concept

This is the only battle I did tonight and decided to upload it as I think it shows the capabilities of this type of build against FotS armies. I am loving fire rockets against FotS armies!

came back to the game after three years and i've gotta say i'm pretty clueless haha. i've been really trying to use kisho ninjas for the fun factor with more or less success, with shinobi informer, dunno if that is a good idea. didn't win a lot of games so far (well only did like 6 matches), would you recommend the use of elite units like fighting nuns against fots, does someone that has no vets stand a chance against someone that has highly experienced vets in a classic shogun 2 faceoff?

+Princess sparkles I can't speak too much to FotS and how it's balanced with S2. I know that it's perfectly doable for a S2 player to beat the average FotS player but really good FotS players seem to have an advantage. Elite units are generally as waste of money going against FotS armies because S2 untis will usually win handily in melee against FotS units. Is S2 vs. S2 it's better to have vets than not but it's not as big a deal as it seems because vets cost more and it balances out decently that way.

alright, and i know the can be beaten, i used to win them all the time somehow. now i'm just in a big loop of loss streaks haha, and with the trashtalk it's pretty annoying :p thanks for the quick answer, likin' that use of matchlocks against fots units btw, that's ballsy.

+Princess sparkles - Ninjas are one great way to beat FOTS. Use Moonomi spy to buff their MA, CB and speed and then for 600kokku you get a great offensive unit. Use them from the front on one flank, walk close, pop stealth & charge just as they get into gun range. Quickly follow up with 2 yari sam (that may also support cav fight cos of those pesky Yari Ki) and 4 vanilla Nodachi with Banzai. Have 2 light cav, 2 yari and 2 katana cav with a melee general. I the FOTS guy is multi-line the ninja pretty much rout the front line, fast cav. can punch through or flank to get to rear lines. Then roll along the line. Use the cav to keep shutting units down before they can fire. It is really important to close down any gun cav. as a priority. If you are lucky enough to have Mempo mask on a melee general the chain routs can be amazing. Hero Worshipping Boy retainer really helps keeps your general alive. I do not use Shinobi informer. If you plan to use this retainer with nijas to take out the general/art they are going to be way too exposed to gun cavalry.

the only way to win against FOTS players nowadays is with a massive cavalry army, i have the replay saved and its quite really good except that i do make a few mistakes, like i have too many units to command but you can get used to that after a while.

+ETicu No, FOTS doesnt. I would actually say the Shogun 2 player has a slight advantage if he kind of knows what he's doing. Its pretty simple to make a control group with naginata attendants up front, maybe 2 yari ashigaru behind to meatshield, and get 4 or 5 no dachis with some cavalry and close the gap vs FOTS. Its harder as a FOTS player to counter that rush build with double line fire and appropriate kiting, skirmishing, sacrificing and positioning. But balance between the two is actually pretty good surprisingly

UltimatePotato Sorry man. You arent playing the matchup right as Shogun 2 then. My friend 50_bomb and I literally went 65-1 on the 2v2 leaderboards, and like 75% of our matchups were against clan players queueing together using FOTS armies while we used Shogun 2 vanilla armies. There were plenty of games where we made blatant micro mistakes and still came out on top. I've done videos on how to skirmish against FOTS armies, I've done videos on how to rush against FOTS armies. Both are completely viable strategies, ESPECIALLY against the average person playing in battle list. If we're talking about AggonyDuck playing as the FOTS player, its a different story. But Shogun 2 armies can absolutely win consistently vs FOTS with good meatshielding, army composition, and timing

+milkandcookiesTW actually I disagree with you. The fact that Yari Ki is the most cost/effective cav unit, Shogitais wreck every melee unit and a revolver cav 2 shot you, makes it really hard to play against them. At the moment I was very succesfully with my standard trad build against fots, but mostly because those people didnt know what to do. In 2vs2 Its easier, because you can easier close the gaps, but in my opinion, an experienced team, who knows how to beat traditional players, will have a better advantage. Most Fots players lack on variety in cases against Trad players, this is why you still see a line spam against you, which might cant handle the huge mass of Trad player. But a mix of Yari Kachi/Shogitais, with a lot red bears and strong Yari Ki with some revolver will give you a hard time, especially in 1vs1
