This has topped my list of all-time favorite trailers. I love the small nuances found throughout the video. These are just my interpretations and observations from start to finish. 0:05 An exhausted Liu Bei sets his 2 swords down. He exemplifies tenacity and an unwavering spirit by continuing to fend off soldiers with a single sword. 0:09 Liu Bei, metaphorically and literally, walks towards the very peril that everyone else must run from. 0:12 A peasant in green falls to his knees; Liu Bei offers a helping hand. Eide) The lyric is an excerpt of a famous poem from Li Bai, one of the greatest poets in China. The poem, "The Road to Shu is Hard"(蜀道难), is originally a piece depicting the difficulty to enter the region of "Shu"(蜀), aka Sichuan, since the Sichuan Basin is encircled by great mountains separating it from the rest of China. CA apparently took an alternative interpretation, making "Shu" a pun referring to both the region and Liu Bei's regime. Really clever!

The lyrics here in Liu Bei's trailer is originally picked from the greatest Chinese poet of Tang Dynasty, (李白）Li Bai's poem. “蜀道之难，难于上青天！” “To walk on the path to Shu area(Shu, name of Liu Bei's faction), is harder than to climb up the sky!” (Perhaps it refers to the extrem hardship and deterioration of Liu Bei fighting for the righteousness in such an era of wars) “地崩山摧壮士死” “(The tale says)Five great men sacrificed themselves when opening the path to Shu.” (An interesting point here is in the trailer we see five characters, four supporting Liu Bei and one himself, which is very implicit. As a child I cried so hard for knowing Liu Bei and his faction failed to make their way out. TAT) “然后天梯石栈相勾连” “And yes, because of their sacrifice, the way to Shu is finally opened!” (TAT, sry, forgive me for being too emotional here.) So, yeah, CA did his homework really well, amazing job! He would have won had Pang Tong not died. The initial plan was Liu Bei matched north with Pang Tong advising him while Guan Yu invaded from Jing with Zhuge Liang advising him while Sun Quan invaded as well. Cao Cao was horrified at such a prospect. Especially if Ma Chao was still opposing him in as a living Pang Tong would have lead to a faster unification of Shu.

The Music, the scenery, the Art Style, and the Three sworn brothers along with Zhuge Liang. My heart soars in watching this again and again! As a history fan of the Three Kingdoms since I played Dynasty Warriors 3 on my PS2, I can say this trailer captures what I believe is the essence of the mythological figure of Liu Bei. Though not of the Christian faith, a line does ring loud and clear when I see Liu Bei in this trailer. It's John 15;13. "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." These men were warlords who did everything to further their own wealth and power. Romance of the Three kingdoms is just that a romanticized story based on actual events. It's important to keep fictional Liu Bei separate from the historical one as the latter shouldn't be praised for his benevolence.

As a Chinese history fan, I watched all the trailers one by one. So freaking well made, great details like the distribution of the stone chess, the broke corner imperial jade... You guys really put together stories in 2 mins trailers. Well the Jin did hold on to the southern half of the Empire, but the North fractured into quite a few different states for the next 100+ years. It's also in this period that we start seeing the propping up of the Shu Han over Wei (the Eastern Jin did have some similarities with how they got started I believe), which later culminated with the popular image of Cao Cao being this Machiavellian bad guy by the time the Famous novel was written in the 1300s (Romance of the three kingdoms did not create that idea, it simply used what was already existing in the popular stories, tales and plays of the time, though the guy I believe was not a fan of Cao Cao any way).

In my opinion, instead of a subordinate, Liu Bei is more like a guest(we call it “客将” in Chinese, I don't know how to speak it in English) when he cooperated with other people. That's why he always had his own army and general that only served himself(like Guan Yu, Zhang Fei). He would stop this cooperation and leave when he found out, for example, he had different idea with his partner(changing sides). However, he never acknowleged allegiance to his partner as a subordinate.

whoever chose this song is a genius! the name of the song 蜀道难 can be depicted as 2 meanings: 1. the SHU(蜀)'s ROAD(道) is hard(难). SHU here means the Sichuan area in China, which is also Liubei's regime, therefore why his nation is called 'SHU'. the terrain is rough as there are tons of mountains and valleys at that area. This is what the song was originally written for. 2. the SHU(蜀)'s CODE(道) is hard(难). SHU here means LiuBei's kingdom(蜀国). the CODE(道) here basically means 'the way', that has same meaning as Japanese 武士道(code of warriors) GENIUS PUN here!

Its incredible how this trailer roughly sums up the mythos of the character. Spectacular bravery, spectacular defeats, spectacular comebacks. Liu Bei constantly was getting defeated but somehow always returned because of the belief others had in him, not because of his own personal strength. Others say "I will rule China" Liu Bei says "We'll better a better one"

Actually the name of Liu Bei's country is Han. Liu Bei claims himself as a posterity of Liu Bang, the First Emperor of The Han dynasty.

@@easonc5131 yes...Shu is region that Liu Bei owned. Basically Liu Bei's faction is Han Loyalist think just like Taiwan -> Nationalist (Kuomintang) Loyalist. Imo.

I cried for this trailer. Liu Bei hasn't said any words, but we know he is fighting for people. It's so touching to see that his army protecting people when facing the huge numbers of enemy fighters. He is a noble man who suffers defeat in every battle and could finally stand up. His tomb and temple are well-preserved in Chengdu, the capital city of Shu(Han), for thousands of years. See, people never forget the real hero.那一剑的桃花，是匡复汉室的梦想，乱世之中，总有希望的桃园。

Its too bad that Liu Bei would later die in a selfish mission to avenge his brothers. Really hate the Liu Bei at that part of the novel tbh, but I guess it was trying to set the stage for Kong Ming to be the next main character

For those who are new to the history of the Three Kingdoms: I personally think the fall of the Han dynasty could be compared with the fall of the Roman empire, and the great figures during the Three Kingdom periods were like the last Romans. They fought and they finally fulfilled their dreams to restore a unified empire (the Jin dynasty), but that empire only lasted for a few decades before its northern part collapsed under the invasion of barbarians. And yes, its southern part survived as Byzantinium did, but was later unified again since there were no Jihads and Crusades in China.

Liu bei already had prestige that liu name gave because of liu bang and liu xiu. Watch Legend of chu and han. it is good series For the fall of Qin dynasty and Rise of peasant Emperor of han.

That's some visual poetry right there! First Liu Bei helps that woman up at the opening of the trailer, and then when he falls, he's helped back up by his friends and the same woman he helped up is the one who returns his sword to him. Liu Bei lifts the people up, and the people lift him up in turn!

Some events I know for sure are Cao Cao waging war for his father's death, Sun Jian death, Gongsun Zan waging war with Yuan Shao and Dong Zhuo assassination. All optional
