The thing that makes you aware of just how weird Ork physchology is the fact that Grimgor Ironhide kills dozens of his own men and the rest of them just _do not care_. In fact, they _admire_ the bastard for his combat prowess while he's murdering their own mates, utterly convinced that it'll never happen to them. In fact, his murdering of their mates _encourages more Orcs_ to join him in anticipation of a good fight! It really puts it into perspective.

Fantastic video for those that will be new to the lore of Fantasy. Great job! Let me also nitpick a bit and add my 2 cents: - Painboyz are never really mentioned in the army books of Fantasy, AFAIK, they seem to be more of a 40k thing. Wether they are relevant in the novels, I don't know. Most importantly, they've never been a unit in the army. - In the 6th edition army book they established that Orcs grow naturally during their whole life, not just during battle. For an Orc to stop growing it's written that he must be defeated in a challenge against another Orc that puts him in his place. This may have changed in latter versions. That said, Orc leaders don't often have to handle challengers because they often surround themselves by a group of strong and loyal Orcs, mostly Big'Uns. - Although, admitedly, Orcs are not known for their smithing work, they are known to reshape armor pieces and weapons that they savage from battles, so that they may fit them. Black Orcs are also said to obtain their armor from the best loot of a battle, "reforging" (loose use of the word) and from tribes that they take under their command, possibly from other Orcs. Also, Goblins are lousy craftsmen and smiths, but not as much as you make it sound. It was them that designed the Doom Diver, which was originally meant to deliver messages, until they realized there was no way to sent a response (dead Goblins aren't good messengers) and they also build the rest of the siege equipment (like Lobbas and Chukkas). I honestly doubt they'd have much of a problem making simple swords, spears and shields. They are also considered good merchants and often handle deals with other races. I also noticed you didn't mention Black Orcs, but that's ok, their backstory has also changed a bit throughout the years. Still, great video, very informative and entertaining! Can't wait to stomp 'eads and crush bones as the Green Tide! WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

+HoboTango Is not a joke they also had terrible moral on tabletop the leader is the most important unit becouse he mantains order mostly gobos flee and orcs just get bored of fighting an enemy but that would be very difficult to add in a TW game. plus the massive infighting even in the middle of battles.

Uruk-hai are actually a crossbreed. In the novels they were a combination of goblins from the Misty Mountains and men (children) from Rohan, while in the movies they say they're cross between orcs and goblins, I assume because it's less disgusting to think about. As far as orcs vs goblins in LotR, the general consensus seems to be that "goblins" are essentially feral orcs which fled from the defeats of Sauron and Melkor to inhabit the mountains. It's interesting to note that while the goblins don't directly serve Sauron or Melkor, they are still bound to them in some sense and can be called upon, seemingly at will.

Let's say a muscular 2 meter human weights 120kg, then double the size is 8 times the volume (Square-Cube law), we land at 960kg. I think orcs might be even more bulky, so 1.5 tonnes is a good estimate!

@@leftwardglobe1643 JRRT goes in depth according to Christopher in an interview(I'll try to find it)..in that "feral" men and women can breed with Orcs, but it takes generations to do so. So, you couldn't make a half orc, but if your great great grandson is a caveman, he can.

I just stumbled upon your channel and I have to say, I'm really happy I did. I'm huge fan of warhammer fantasy and first ever box of miniatures were orc boyz. I was about 10 back then. When I wanted to continue said hobby, my friends were no longer interested by them. When I met new friend who was interested, he was more interested about 40k. Then I was almost "forced" to collect 40k. It was rather difficult to find people who were interested by fantasy: I had a rather small force of nurgle warriors, so I bought some greenskins as their adversaries. Had couple of good games and times. I lost my point here, but I'm pretty saddened by the fact that 40k is such dominant force in GW line-up and fantasy in almost lingering in the shadows. Nowadays it's some crazy age of sigmar with messyly designed overpriced models, fantasy space marines and round bases! I love to see some love thowards fantasy and really enjoy these fantasy lore videos. Nurgle be praised.. oh no, wrong video! Gork and Mork are da strongest!

but arch I say, in i think 5th edition(I started collecting in the late 90's) there was a substantial amount of fluff written about the snotlings and their ways of building pumpwagons (I really loved those things), and things like how the mind of the snotling dictated it to basically just mimic the biggest orc around. and that they would tend to the mushrooms(children and food).

Actually ur talking about the Orc confronting another Orc over his favorite goblin reminded me of a revelation my karate instructor told me about sword fighting. Back in feudal Japan, when Samurai would duel each other regularly, the winner was often the one with the quickest reflexes, reacting more to his opponent drawing a sword rather than concentrating on making the first move - in that regard, it was kind of like a Wild West gunfight. But the point is that, like you said, one or the other samurai was probably going to kill the other, but at the same time, the loser was still equally likely to inflict a fatal injury to his opponent before dying himself. Ergo, either you'd kill your opponent, your opponent would kill you, or you'd more likely kill each other. I'd imagine that Orc on Orc fights would end up having similar odds to that outcome.

I also love the idea of a Goblin army - lots of Goblin Warriors and Archers (archery being the only field in which Goblins reach something like parity with humans, and their great numbers making them reasonably effective at combat. Of course, the real reason to run a Goblin army is to have more room to put in Trolls, Chariots, Giants, and Artillery, not to mention Squig Herds, of course!

LotR is a little Bit complicated in the Books urukeis are the Higher Ranking Orcs ( Like small orc Bosses) in the movies the urukeis are Orcs Mixed with Humans so they are strongher and resistent to sunlight. In the Books the Orcs from saruman have the Same Trades but are Just called Orcs.

While there has ofc been skirmished between the 2 factions the orcs have never invaded the under empire in any real numbers, primarily due to the fact that doing so would require them to actually find an entrance and the orcs don't have the patience to go looking around for one when there are far more obvious targets to go after.

CantusTropus the fact that Orcs use asexual reproduction means that they are genderless; there are no male or female orcs. They just seem male (big muscles, violence, might-makes-right attitude) so they look like the warrior-race they are meant to be in the Warhammer universe.
