Norsca is my favorite chaos faction other than the beastmen. Its only after I started playing total war warhammer that I'm starting to learn of these new factions and now I'm Really starting to broaden my horizons on the warhammer fantasy world. When I start collecting table top models norsca will definitely be one of the factions.

Same I love playing as norsca in the total war warhammer games. They are more grounded then the chaos faction. Feels like to me they don't rely on dark powers as much as the chaos faction where some units in the chaos faction are somewhat mutated. but with norsca they rely more on their own strength and faith in the chaos gods. Plus their inspiration comes from our nordic cultures which is a big plus in my book. When I get my new pc the first faction I'm going to play as is norsca and as they say "enslave the southerners"

26:15, I actually had to look it up, but the god of the sea is not Myrmidon, it's Manaan, Myrmidon is actually a 40k reference, though there is a goddess named Myrmidia, who is kind of similar to Athena/Minerva

4:53 - *Jumbo* mentions the Vikings here... There's no doubt the Norsca tribes are inspired from the _mythical_ "Vikings" in popular history. Only the most Scandinavians from this time were good farmers, not forced to sustain them selves on a completely barren lands. Historians believe the real reason Vikings started to travel from their homes came out of curiosity and greed. Not the need to sustain them selves. Obviously, one cannot maintain a whole population on exclusively slaves and jewelry. Slaves also need to eat. Transportation of large crops didn't exist in this time. It would be far simpler to just move and start a mass immigration-in comparison to move the riches to the North. Myth; debunked. Great video by the way! I just started to play the Norsca campign - can't wait to find out about their dark norscan history. Gotta love the World of Total Warhammer.

I believe they were also fueled by a overpopulation of lesser nobility. It wasn't really that the people couldn't sustain themselves, more than there wasn't enough land and resources to maintain the lifestyles of the growing nobility, and so they had the choice to either be poor or to go settle or conquer new land, or to raid and bring wealth back home to climb the social latter. Similar to how early colonization of the Americas would become, for the British and Spanish at least, a convenient place to get rid of young, aggressive, ambitious, and violent young men with noble titles to keep them from cutting each others throats in the mother country. Granted, greed and curiosity definitely played a part in all of this, but to the young nobles leading the vikings it was essentially seen as their only method of maintaining or acquiring wealth. Iceland would also become a large proto-republican island of exile for those fleeing the new centralizing and Christianising authority in Norway.

Good vid, but just quick, the 'vikings' were warriors, but the people of the vikings were northmen, whom farmed and lived of it. Viking in old norse and Donsk tonga as far as i remember means raiders, or the verb to raid or go on a raid. Which were more like a Job than a civilization.
@hampusjohansson52004 жыл бұрын
If you're going to be very specific not even the whole warrior cast were Vikings. As Viking roughly means to go raiding. Only the ones that left Scandinavia or left their lands to raid other Scandinavian countries were Vikings

in the real world vikings didn't raid because they had to but because they could. See scandinavia isn't a barren tundra and it speciak´lly wasn't 1000 years ago but the vikings were good at farming and had the surplus to sustain groups of them going on weeklong boating trips to raid. the reason vikings are remembered as being tall is because pretty much everywhere else in europe people were malnurished and therefore didnt grow very large.

how to demoralize the norsca 1. Capture as many as you can after a battle (if you win) 2. Take one guy and separate him from the others, then force him to watch as you and your men cut the arms off of his comrades. 3. Take a few from the group, tie heavy weights around them then push them off into a lake and force the others to watch them drown 4. After all of that force the rest on one of their long ships. then tell the one you kept in tact (didn't cut his hands off) and have him deliver a message to the other norsca clans to come here and fight us so we can cut their arms off too. do this enough times and if successful you will demoralize the norsca, use their religion against them.

''reminiscent of the vikings of the real world'' by the gods, you americans still think Scandinavian was a frozen wasteland.. IT WAS not. let me give you the real version. We had so great lands that we were able to feed.That ment we became ''too many'' that is why many sailed out and finded new land and ''raid'' It's called Viking so it was a job really. Because many sailed out to form their own ''kingdom'' If you take a look on Englands east side. You will find a town that was Danish. It still carry the names.

@johnmorgan41243 жыл бұрын
Their communities would not be able to exist. You need crops and organised agriculture supplemented by hunting. As Charles Darwin recognised 'those species which have the most empathy for raising their young produce the largest populations'. The survival of the fittest has been debunked and it is misinterpreted by too many. If it was true then humans would have destroyed themselves thousands of years ago. Therefore these norse could not exist or even have a diet which produced muscular warriors. You need social stability and a guarrenteed proper diet to be like that. They just could not be like that in reality 🤔
@UnholyWrath32772 жыл бұрын
Survival of the fittest is definitely misinterpretted but not debunked. Taking care of ones young would quite easily fall under the fittest. Being the fittest isnt always about the strongest individuals but just as much about the species strengths and weaknesses as a collective. Even in the most survivable species certain genetic mutations can become major problems if passed down to a large portion of the population so biologically it can make a lot of sense to isolate certain defects and not allow them to be passed down. Only people view this in a moral sense
