+Lurid Larsson Tbh if he has any cadbury stuff now it all tastes like absolute shite. An American company that brought it has ruined it. They swapped all nice chocolate with cheap shit and thought no one would notice. We did and there sales have massively dropped and they lost money last year. This what happens when you think you can change a recipe everyone likes.

Pretty funny how basically everyone who speaks english as their first language manages to pronounce not a single Dutch word right, but make it sound German =D. Also, to nag a bit, Holland is just 2 out of 12 provinces of the Netherlands. Also somehow our language is still called Dutch from hundreds of years ago, but if you translate it directly from Dutch, the country is called Netherland, and the language is Netherlands (Netherlandish maybe?) Like England and English.

No, you're not "supposed" to put stroopwafels on a cup of coffee or tea, that's just how foreigners seem to think it is. It is very normal to just eat them straight out of the package. Take it from the Dutchman. Nice to see TB feeling well enough to do this. EDIT: I've never even heard of that Wilhelmina vs. King mints debate. If that ever existed, it was a long while ago. Nowadays, people just eat whatever kind of mint is available. And yeah, cheese flavoured stuff is pretty terrible. I don't understand how Bolletje makes money off of that.

I respect TB's decision to stop engaging with social media. The fact he maintains the output he does post-diagnosis and during treatment is genuinely awe-inspiring. The fact is the human mind hasn't evolved to deal with the amount of feedback / interaction public figure does in modern society. Call me an arselicker if you want but this seems to have gone largely unappreciated. I'm sorry, but the man is incredible.

No "Duo Penotti"? Amateurs... ;) Duo Penotti is the vastly superior cousin of Nutella (for obvious reasons).A combo of Hazelnut and White Choccolate, it's not really Dutch in origin but it's pretty much the sandwich spread of choice beating out marmalade and peanut-butter.

A very Dutch custom is to take the round toasts (beschuit) and put a lot of butter and blue or pink glazed anise grains on them for guests attending a baby shower, or other events for newborn babies. They are definitely NOT meant to be eaten on their own. The only case which I can remember seeing people eating them with nothing on them is on a kids gameshow, where kids have to eat one of those toasts raw, and the first kid to manage to whistle afterwards (the dry and sawdusty texture makes it almost impossible) wins.

uhhh, does TB usually bite through and chew sweets/mints instead of sucking them? Also, I don't know anyone that likes advocaat or those kaas dominos and noone eats those 'beschuit' (toasts) without toppings. A Dutch thing to do with those toasts is a challenge where you eat a whole one and without swallowing and try to whistle a song.

Being from the Netherlands, I'm going to translate the things TB tried to read: - "Kaas domino" - Chees dominos - "draag eens een steentje bij" - An expression meaning something along the lines of do your part, help people (but usually in the context of a group, not an induvidual). - "Vernieuwde receptuur" - Renewed recept, new recept. BTW, the only things I recognized and are popular here are: - Hagelslag - the breakfast chocklate flakes - Paprica chips (these are the most common chips around here) - Stroopwafels (the things Genna tried to steal) - windmill cookie (but we just call it speculaas, and it always breaks) - The mints - And a thing you didn't eat, the salty liqurish. I saw you had it on the guide, but I guess TB thought they where mints. Probably good for TB, because I suspect that they're similar to the Finnish liquerish.

Dutch guy here, i really loved John's reactions. Past summer i got to visit GB for the first time and it was great, and i mostly had the same reactions to food over there. 'Normal' is a relative as to driving on the right- or left side of the road. The first item he tries isn't tasteful in and of itself but it is a great carrier for a variety of toppings both sweet and savory. For instance butter to 'glue' on some chocolate sprinkles. As you might know we Dutch love us some toppings on bread for breakfast and lunch.

It's sad knowing what he's going through but I'm glad to see he's still up to doing vids like these and look forward to more vids from you both in the near and far future to come. 'gratz as well on the weight loss update you recently posted and I'll be rooting from the sidelines on TB kicking his illness in the ass as he did before even if this one is tougher than the last one. Go you all on your endeavors for 2016 and beyond! That is all.

Another dutch thing is mayonaise with french fries. It's so standard that you can ask in a restaurant for a "patat met" which litterally translates to "French fries with" and you'll get mayonaise with it. It's not the same mayonaise though, our mayonaise is sweet. Not sour.

There's a party game where everybody eats a slice of "beschuit", and the first one to whistle wins. For added fun, try to eat a whole roll of beschuit without drinking anything. They're not really meant as a replacement for bread, but they keep good pretty much indefinitely. They're nice with strawberries on them. And they're the traditional food eaten with aniseed sprinkles ("muisjes") on the arrival of a new-born child. We now have King Willem Alexander, son of Beatrix, daughter of Juliana, daughter of Wilhelmina, of whom the Mints speak.

Well, apart from the obvious reasons, it's because we don't actually consume a lot of it. The very point of legalisation was to take the soft drugs trade out of the criminal circuit and reduce the number of addicts, and statistics show it's really worked...

As someone from the Netherlands, I'm going to try to describe every piece of food in this video and how you normally eat it. The first thing we call beschuit. It's a very light and tasteless...thing. You're generally speaking supposed to eat it with butter and something else on top of it. Most people put something solid like cheese or eggs on it. It's basically like eating a sandwich but instead of the taste of bread you use something tasteless that makes the taste what you put on top of it less noticeable. The second food is just chocolate caramel like everyone can clearly see. We like out chocolate caramel here. Although I personally dislike caramel somewhat because of how sticky it is. As you can see from the third food, we also like out layered biscuits. It seems TB got unlucky. Most biscuits here are chocolate layered biscuits, not cheese layered. I personally don't mind cheese layered ones but chocolate layered is much better. The fourth food is something we have in many types and tastes. It's called hagelslag. Most people don't use it because it's a mess but they can taste pretty good. They are available in what are basically coloured sticks of sugar and pretty much every type of chocolate you can imagine (including small thick pieces of chocolate). There are probably some types I'm forgetting. Fifth food is just a mint. We like mint. There is nothing more to say about it. Sixth food is another mint. Seriously? They couldn't at least pick 1 of the many candies with mint taste we have? The seventh food is just a generic brand of crunchy chips. Just stick with lays, they taste better in my opinion. In fact, even corn based chips like Doritos taste better in my opinion. Ah yes, stroopwafels as the eight food. Surprisingly few people actually eat them. They are nice as a quick and taste snack but most people here prefer the softer baked goods. Ninth food, chocolate covered biscuits. We like them. We like them a lot. They are pretty much our national food we eat them that much. The tenth food is by the sound of it chocolate with coffee taste. The bane of any child and even many adults. It's something you just have to try to be able to judge it. The eleventh food looks like speculaas. I can't really describe what it is. You just need to taste it to know what it is. Fun fact: they are associated with a holiday we celebrate called Sinterklaas. It's a holiday we celebrate on the 5th of December. It's basically Santa Claus from Spain. We also celebrate Christmas btw so we basically celebrate it twice (December is a very expensive month here). The twelfth food is just a sugar filled candy. They taste very sweet but don't have much more to them. Pretty much 1 of the most bland candies you can think off. 13th food is just a generic piece of soft chewing candy. You probably tasted it before. Imagine the most bland piece of soft chewing candy you can imagine and add a taste to it. Very boring but it taste pretty nice if you want something to chew on. Note for the mints: you're supposed to suck on them, not chew on them. They taste the same on the outside as they do on the inside so there is no point on chewing on them. It was nice to see what other people think of our food and foods are actually special to our country. It is a bit sad though that only cold foods can be included in a package like this. We have a lot more foods. Foods like the gehaktbal (A ball of meat), the frikandel (a deep-fried stick of generic meat), the kroket (soft almost liquid meat on the inside with a crusty outside, again deep-fried) and a lot of other types of meats. Yeah, we like out meat, especially deep-fried meat.

It was basically a typical, bland and cheap Dutch box: shitty and cheap cookies/biscuits that go well with tea or coffee and some mints. One piece of bland shit together with watery coffee pretty much sums up our Dutch culture. Universal Yums did a great job of spotting that.

Just for reference: the double O in stoopwafels is pronounced more like strope (so, stropewaffels). Same with my nick: Not Hoop like a basketball hoop, but Mest Hope! As for the contents of the box: Like most other Dutchies said, it was pretty mediocre. We like cheese, hence the Kaas Dominos, but I don't know anyone who actually eats those. Also that toast thing: No one calls that toast. Toast here is just the same as toast everywhere. That is called Beschuit (one of the reasons why it has the form of a biscuit). Also no one eats them dry. They are a receptacle for eating toppings, that's it.
