Very good review. I've just bought a X wheels, and can't wait to try it.

I started skating in '76. My first wheels were Power Paws and Road Rider 4's. I don't know the durometer of the Paws (REALLY soft), but the Road Riders are 78A. (I still have a barely used set) Been using 90A RatBones since 2011 and have a set of 88A StreetCubes that I'm saving for a board I haven't yet laminated. Might get a set of 95A MiniCubes for more speed on ramps and in parks... Even though I'm rusty, I'm still riding at 63. Don't ever quit 😊

I just got done with a quick session on the XFs on the street, these slide really nice on street, fun. I like both.

Yeah, overall I think the XF's are a more versatile wheel (over the Dragons)

Good review man.. I might try these but I'm so used to the comfort and speed I get from Ricta clouds on rough UK streets. 78a but That squeak on crooked Grinds on ledges and especially 50/50s on round rails is a lot.
@JonHomYT Жыл бұрын
ohhh yeah I have a set of those 78a's on my cruiser board and I love them (the streets in Taiwan might be as crusty as the ones in the UK!) yeah, the squeak gets annoying after a while and kind of messes with you mentally!

Been skating 99a formula fours forever now. I was recently gifted the 97x v5. I hope I like them. I’m very partial to spitfires. The F4s in 99 have been grippy enough and slide the way I like.

I’m really liking the x97 56mm v6 shape. They’re wide with rounded edge like a radial but sidecut like a conical. Idk if it’s bc I started skating in the ‘80s, but I don’t like skinny wheels. These are perfect, I already got 2 more sets

I'd like to skate bowl and also wooden pipe and ramps. 93a 54mm are too slow for me 101a way to slippery (just got back into skating, no street at all). I'm so torn between (Dragons, but they might be just as my 93a) the X99a and the X97a. I don't want to slip when fiddling in the pipe but need more speed in the concrete (not smooth skateparkconcete, but regular, bit rougher concrete) bowl. Which ones should I get?? Thanks for the great video, I'm still not sure. Advice/ help would be highly appreciated!
@JonHomYT3 ай бұрын
It sounds like the x97 or x99 might be what you're looking for! I actually tried the x99's for a session or two and found them to be more or less the same as a normal 99a (maybe just a tad softer). The x97's are not too hard, not too soft. I don't skate much transition or ramps so I'm not sure how the x97's hold up on skatelite/wood, but they feel great on concrete - fast enough to get speed but not overly slippery. The dangerous thing I found about dragons (especially on smooth skatepark ground) was that they felt gummy when riding around, but they would unintentionally slip out when turning or carving real fast. I guess that's how they were designed? The formula was made to slide when a soft wheel would most likely grip so it makes sense. Anyway, the x97's have been a great wheel! Been riding a few sets of them since this I made this video. I'll be trying out the Spitfire easy sliders soon though

Skilled Skateboarder and Musician? Kudos to you. 😎
__Oj classics 95a ridden down to 52mm are just the best feeling and sounding on the streets wheel for my experience so far. I'd really like to try both these Dragons and X-formulas, but I have to admit that the sound of 95a Oj simply remind me too much the reason, that I should not try to fix it unless it's underperforming. 95a is kind a bit too soft-sided on the smooth concrete so the 97a X-formulas might be the best wheel for all terrain including the smooth concrete. __Could you "squick out" (without squicks) 1-80 flips with Dragons on coarse afphalt? I mean do they forgive a bit if I landed "150" degrees, but squick without squick still into more or less 180?
@JonHomYT Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they behave more or less like a standard wheel so all reverts/powerslides work pretty well!

Thanks for this comparison video and thanks for saving me money. I haven't skated in a skatepark in ages so just the crusty ground by me. 95A Ricta crystal cores is too much feedback for my feet so the 97A would probably be worse.
@krispyk.1786 Жыл бұрын
Actually I would say no! I ride oj mini juice 55mm and they actually feel HARDER than my X97 56mm- The lack of core actually allowed the bumps to be absorbed throughout the wheel leading to a fast and low bumpy feel
@TheReal_DeanD Жыл бұрын
@@krispyk.1786 Interesting and Thanks for sharing. For me I've got Ricta Crystal Cores 95A and on the concrete I skate it was like a super harsh foot massage whenever I skated. Seemed like the core there really made the feedback worse. I'm going to try some NFG Mfg 95A wheels that I have without a core to see if they fair better.
@TheReal_DeanD Жыл бұрын
@@krispyk.1786 Hey. Just gotta say you were right. I got x97 54mm wheels and skated them and you're right on the money. The X97 wheels felt softer than the Ricta Core 95A wheels. The X97 wheels felt a smidge harder than the 93A Dragon wheels but softer than the Ricta 95As. My mind is blown. I think I've found my all rounder wheel that I can skate on the crust by me and then use at the skate park.

@@TheReal_DeanDOkay glad I’m not the only one. Cause the x97 feels pretty similar to the dragons for me cause they both don’t have a core. While the oj 95a nomads feels noticeably harder than both even though the duro is softer than x97’s obviously. And it’s because the nomads have that inner plastic core that the others don’t. Kinda crazy

Thinking about buying new wheels, either 101a f4s or 97x. My only concern is compression in the wheels when skating bowl..
@JonHomYT Жыл бұрын
I'm not a bowl skater, but I have a friend who uses the 93A dragons in the bowl and he loves them, although he says they do tend to be a little sticky on coping when grinding. I don't feel any friction when grinding with the 97x's though. The 101a F4"s will be incredibly hard and may be a little slippery when riding transition - but it also depends on the surface you're riding on. If it's skate lite, the 101a's will definitely be more slippery. If you're torn between the 101a f4's and the 97x's, then I recommend getting a 99a Bones STF. They're kind of right in the middle of what you're looking for.

They messed up with 97. Should of been 95du. Also. I've been using Dragons since Easter on curbs and asphalt only. Chip? Huh? lol Not mine and i have 2 of them starting to cone.
@idmhead0160 Жыл бұрын
The Dragons can get little chips, or gouges out of them. Not really a huge issue, at least in my experience. I haven't seen that with the X Formula. They seem to be very durable. Probably more so than Dragons.
