Fantastic video. 2 weeks ago I pulled one of these out of a skip with all the cables. No power. Opened it up and saw 3 leaked capacitors - the same ones as in this video - ordered some new capacitors (oddly they were Panasonic branded capacitors), soldered them in and reassembled and all works. I ordered the correct model remote as it mentioned in the manual from eBay which arrived today and all works fantastically. I wonder how many of these or similar products which just needed a little soldering have ended up in landfill...

Thank you. Yes it is a very common problem with these machines and hundreds have probably been thrown out when they could have been fixed. I think Panasonic probably had a faulty batch or manufacturer at the time these caps were made. 👍

Good to see you fix the Panasonic recorder i remember they were quite expensive back in the day and a better way to backup onto dvd , great job on the fix too Lee - nice 1 👍

Yeah, a few years back I could get £150-£250 for these. Now you're lucky to get £100. Thanks for watching and commenting.

hi Lee, just done one if these myself, bootfair job £11.50 seller wanted £15 but do like a haggle lol . same as your one dead as a doorknob as we say. Changed all the power supply caps and yay booted up. Free view working hdmi output working, composite output working.. ooh no dvd power.. found that someone been messing before and damaged the power ribbon, fixed that so all working. Great, lets try a vhs.. thats where im stuck.! it all plays mech wise with sound but no picture, But! when you fast forward while playing you see the picture! go back to play and black garbage. Yup.. cleaned the heads still the same. I think you were real lucky on that one that a quick head clean got it playing really nice. I have another machine to test with another drum or board so need to check. But im sure when I tested the other machine it had the same no video on play only FF!! nice video :) All the best, from another Lee ;-)

Oh no, that's a shame there's no picture after doing all that work. I think maybe one of the heads on the drum could be damaged though. I'd take the drum off and inspect the heads with a microscope. I had one before where I could see a chip out of one of the heads and think it was the same symptoms as yours. Best of luck Lee. Lee
