As I continue through this review, I have to praise the genius of using Linkin Park as the chapter transition music. As someone who grew up watching and reading Naruto, this manga was the foundation for AMVs, and nothing screams 2007 like a Naruto AMV set to Linkin Park

Tbh as a disabled person Naruto meant a lot to me as a kid, the idea of this character who was born with something inside him that made him different, isolated him, made it difficult to make friends, etc was super relatable and I like that the nine tails is a constant impediment to Naruto until he learns to accept and embrace it as part of it, to essentially befriend his disability, it took me years to learn to deal with mine and to learn to appreciate that I became the person I am because of it in part so maybe it’s not so bad

It's odd to see a Shounen protagonist suffer a genuine panic attack. It's not some sort of flashy display of the doubts and fears in their minds, but just them simply grasping their chest as their ability to breathe and their heartbeats quickly spirals out of control until they collapse from the sheer trauma of the situation. There's nothing dramatic or grand about the moment to the point where it simply happens due to a series of well-intentioned, yet horribly misguided moments of miscommunication during the leadup to a big fight rather than in the middle of one. It really is shockingly relatable from a series that I had just written off as "that thing I used to enjoy as a kid".

Thanks for uploading it like this. Was wonderful to rewatch all at once. Naruto was a series I grew up with. My parents wouldn't let me watch the "violent" anime, but my brothers and I grew up playing the games and the stories within. As I got older I was able to start watching and grew to love the Konoha 11 and all of Naruto's found family. It truly became a core part of my life and my friend convinced me to watch it beginning to end my senior year of high school. Eventually catching up to it in time for the release of the final episode of shippuden and the airing of Boruto. There's so much love behind every story Kishimoto San puts in front of us, and there's something so raw about how he writes about pain, love, and hatred. To me, Naruto is a story that I want to share with my partner, my children, and my friends. It's a story about connection, empathy, love, and the will of fire. I know Boruto isn't what Naruto was, but I'm so glad that I get to keep experiencing stories with these characters. I hope that you'll one day get the inspiration to read the manga as I think its special in its own way. Thanks again Mark.

As someone who has written his own stories before. The first chapter is the most difficult thing to write because it's exactly like Totally Not Mark says. The first chapter is the one that is going to determine if a reader wants to continue reading your story. The edo tensei part of the war arc really is only good if you: A) Read the manga weekly B) watched the anime weekly Or C) consumed the series at a very leisurely pace. It is VERY reliant on nostalgia and that "woah been a while" feeling. People and events that the viewers/readers haven't seen in years. Consuming the series how you and other reactors do; is the antithesis of what the section of the arc is written for. I'm not saying it's a GOOD arc but it gets a lot of shit online because of people viewing it in the opposite style that it was created for. Back in the day it was cool because for us watching it or reading weekly, we hadnt seen Zabuza in almost 13 years, almost 10 years since Kimimaro and the Sound 4 in the anime and it had been almost 5 years since Asuma died. It was 100% a nostalgia fluff arc

Not really, it's not the best arc around but it's completely solid. The issue is the anime itself was a bad adaptation of Naruto in the sense that things were really slow with repeated flashbacks and padding and all that stuff while the manga was super fast and fluid. I have to say - kudos to you for not ragging on Sakura so many other creators. Her character serves a very specific purpose to balance out the tragedy of Naruto and Sasuke. She's a simple 12 yr old in the beginning without any issues and that's a lot of kids. While I will forever be annoyed at Kishimoto for his lack of characterization, but I think she grows to realize how important Naruto and Sasuke are to her (esp evident when reading the manga) and so her want to protect and fight with them is her motivation to improve her self. Forest of Death and her training with Tsunade. I don't think that's a bad thing. Our friends and family push us to be better and in this case, Naruto and Sasuke are the motivation for her. And her punching Kaguya at the end really brought Team 7 full circle.
@unparalleledaesthetics734611 ай бұрын
I personally just hate her personality. The entire moment with sai having to tell naruto everything with sasuke because of sakura lying to him was hypocritical and just made me hate her character. She was insufferable in shippudden, especially when she would constantly complain, she doesnt really contribute much while on the team other than medical. Only fight she really "won" was sasori and chiyo had to help her. Everyone has to do shit for her, and she belittles those helping her constantly. I. E. Naruto. just saying, i've never liked her character because of how she acts around the people that care about her. It's annoying and shes just very immature while trying to pass herself off as a more mature person. I think thats what most people hate about her as a character. Also, sakura saying she is on the same level as naruto and sasuke during the war arc was unbelievable to me and i dont think she ever will be lol
@Utada37911 ай бұрын
@@unparalleledaesthetics7346 I disagree. Again, she's a simple teenage girl. 12, 16, etc. is irrelevant. She's not supposed to be a paragon of morality and all-knowing behavior. Again, she did not simply "help" Chiyo. Re-read the manga, Chiyo says that she couldn't have taken Sasori by herself. There's several points in that fight which Sakura handles her own. I also don't think it's fair to harp on that "I'm at their level line". In all fairness, she is in some regards. She's a sannin whether people like it or not. Naruto and Sasuke are reincarnations of Gods and yet no one has an issue hypin gup the likes of Kakashi, Guy, Rai, Bee, etc. All amazing characters and yet none of them are on Naruto or Sasuke's levels, but let Sakura, a Sannin, compare herself to her teammates and suddenly hell breaks loose. Some of y'all need to grow up. Naruto ended in 2017 and the character is 34 yrs old. If you're still complaining about some shit she did at 12 and 16, there's something wrong.

Also, im adding her personality as the main reason why she is so insufferable. None of these characters are all knowing, but somehow there are teenagers with much more intellectual capacity and emotional complexity than her character. She is a teenager, but so is naruto and his maturity in that moment surpassed hers. She is just a shitty person, theres nothing else to say. Also boruto is just shit even with the time skip. I watched though all of the pre-time-skip Naruto, several of the non-cannon movies, and ended up checking out shortly after the fight helping Chiyo... I haven't read any of the manga. Watching the series in disk by mail era of Netflix was rough, and frequently very unrewarding. I love the world building and a fair few of the supporting cast, but i dislike Naruto himself, i sour very quickly on punching-bags that are determined to keep getting up, seemingly intent on learning as little as possible. By the time he grew out of that i was already bored of him, and is one reason i bounced off Avatar-Legend of Korra as hard as i did, as she is disturbingly similar) Sakura is a punchline in a few too many jokes, especially in the non-cannon movies. (One memorable scene has her KO'ed almost compleately by surprise, in one shot. Her attacker than comments that she has extremely slow reflexes for a ninja...) At the point that i realized she was fated to be trapped by the Shonen curse of female character's... i just checked out. It's a dangerous thing to build up a character's intelligence, and then have them do stupid things. It might be realistic, but it challenges the conceptualization of the character.... How many times can a character that is said to be intelligent, act stupid before i question if they are actually intelligent? I cannot help but feel that Sakura was an under-utilized character. (Like so many of the best supporting cast are!) She shouldn't have needed to be a demi-god! (though honestly i think that is part of where the series lost its biggest strength, when shuriken got traded in for Kaiju, and being a skilled ninja wasn't enough to be impactful) Personally I always wanted Sakura to be better, and i do think that in trying to manipulate Naruto she catastrophically diminished herself. In that way i think its a bit ironic that she Karmically got exactly what she asked for, and she probably deserves that dubious blessing, in a 'be careful what you wish for' manner. But, I do wonder if i would be more sympathetic to her if I'd read the Manga...

Naruto is one of my most loved pieces of media ever. It was introduced to me when I was only 6 and it was also the first of many animes that I would watch in my lifetime. I know that it isn’t perfect, but it’s long lasting impact and just how enjoyable it is makes it one of the most influential anime’s and mangas of all time and it will always have a special place in my heart. Yeah, just despite the fact that most of the moments didn't make sense, Madara was reduced to the level of a fool who was made to look like a fool with just one inscription on a sign (what a shame), and well, the fact that we got one of the worst endings in the anime. Now we get the consequences of this decision in Boruto. This is still the central theme there. Well, don’t forget that half of the techniques and pretentious phrases said earlier in previous arcs are simply ignored or forgotten, and secondary characters become simply unnecessary and their stories are forgotten.

My take on Sakura saying that she loves Naruto was that she was trying to convince *herself* that she loved Naruto. She knew full well that he had a huge crush on her. She was battling with her sincere love for Sasuke, and with all the awful things hes done in mind, she tries to convince herself that she loves Naruto instead in hopes that he'd listen to her, not fight for Sasuke, and *hopefully* have some sense of a happy life, even if its not the fulfilled fairytail she always thought she'd have with Sasuke.

I think the communicator thing that the Yamanaka clan uses during the war is used because of the magnitude of the situation. I think when Sasuke was training with Orochimaru they didn’t want to reach out because the disappearance of a genin isn’t a priority according to Konaha’s leaders. And if Inoichi and a couple members of his clan are the only one’s who can use the machine maybe their talents are better used elsewhere.

Was anyone else ever struck by the fact that Sakura was portrayed as 'smart enough to ace a test designed to be unable to be aced by some bad motherfuckers' during the written exam (while Shikamaru wasn't, I might add), and then her supposedly staggering intellect is borderline never mentioned again in favor of her learning how to heal and turning herself into Almight?
@samoth51615 ай бұрын
It was the most disappointing part of her missed potential for me. I don't think it has to be dropped for the medical stuff. It seemed like the original intent was for her to have unparalleled medical knowledge and aptitude due to her intellect. It's hinted at when she makes the antidote to sasoris poison when nobody else could. It's too bad she never does anything like this again
@williammiller30525 ай бұрын
@@samoth5161 [Side note: they also set her up at the one with the best control of her chakra (tree climbing exercise), and then never brought that up again] I can't be the only one who thinks the most ridiculous aspect of the entire story is to make Sakura both a physical brawler with enhanced strength and a healer. In a world where everyone can throw knives and stars like pros, Sakura runs straight at her opponent and throws punches. Screw all the jutsu that could fry her like chicken or the genjutsu that could have her slamming away against a tree. Why in the name of the Sage of Six Paths did she not learn mid or long ranged combat options to go with her healing?!?!?! If the medic goes down, the whole team's in jeopardy. This is both common sense and canonical. I hated it about Tsunade too, but rationalized it (eventually and reluctantly) through her regeneration diamond, though the complaint remains, as she must store health over time to use it. The truly crazy part is that her massive strength is redundant anyway, as demonstrated by Kabuto, who uses chakra scalpels to do as much damage, which both Sakura and Tsunade must know. Kabuto literally would have killed Tsunade with a touch to the chest if her large boobs hadn't thrown off his calculations (per the manga and her speculation). Why not let Sakura learn some genjutsu and support jutsu and be competent with throwing weapons and utilize a little synergy.

@@williammiller3052 her chakra control is the whole reason she became a healing ninja and why she has enhanced strength bro did u even pay attention to the story sakura was never the type to use jutsu like that shes more like naruto in that aspect and it reflects with her personality it wouldnt make sense if she all of a sudden became the calculating type like sasuke using all type of little justu and shit and she uses her summoning as protection against long ranged because u have to understand the level of strength she has toward the end nobody is taking her out that easy unless they are strong and if they are that level then she can use her summon thats the whole juxtapostion of her character because usually the healer character is weak and uses long range attacks. I honestly think one of the most powerful shots in the entire anime is that shot of Shikamaru finally succumbing to his grief. The moment gave me chills and almost made me cry myself. The way the tears spill over and his mouth opens to wail, but the door shuts before his weeping truly begins, giving us the satisfaction of seeing his catharsis, but also recognizing that grief is a private affair and we the audience are not automatically privy to that process. Though Kishimoto is pretty terrible at writing women (most male shonen mangakas are to be fair), it's nice to see him not shy away from letting us see the boys and men of the story cry. I think that's important for boys to see and learn from.

Just had a thought, if Sakura developed her hundred healings seal before her confrontation with Sasuke at the bridge, instead of at the end of the war arc, it would make her rashness justified. I read it in its entirety, weekly, as it was getting released, and I really liked it back in the day. But over time, even towards the end of me still reading it, I sort of fell out of love with it and looking back at it, I always kinda felt that it was lackluster in some way - simply because I was so far removed from it at some point. But your review and summary of it reminded me of all the fantastic moments, all the buildup and payoffs, that made me fall in love with the manga - and manga as a whole - and it made me realize how much this story had a part in my growing up. I may have outgrown the later story at some point (as well as the art style, which I didn't love in Shippuuden), but Naruto in its best moments still remains absolute peak.

nah the 9 tails isn't the real issue that makes this story feel off. It's the fact that it paints a narrative that hard work trumps talent, and then they just make naruto the reincarnation of one of the sage of 6 path's sons. So his "hard work" can be discounted as it always would've paid off because it was his destiny. Whereas in one piece the story is about destiny and not hard work so it doesn't destroy the story's narrative.
@hc.1179 ай бұрын
If you want to know the reincarnation point is actually a cultural problem that Naruto has. This comes from the fact that the Japanese have a very different view of seeing these concepts. I'm sorry if this is a bit long and complicated. This reincarnation, like this story of child of the prophecy are actually Buddhist concepts (the samsara and karma) which are well known in Japan and Asia. Rinnegan literally means "the samsara eye" and karma you generally know what it is (as a reminder if you do good/bad things, good/bad things happen to you).The main concept of this reincarnation is that each person's basic situation is caused by the karma of the actions of their past lives (in this case the basic situations of Naruto and Sasuke were greatly influenced by the actions of Hashirama and Madara) but despite everything they can react in the present by their own actions (which explains the end, and yes this thing is the logical continuity with Neji). Page 70 of Naruto databook 4 also confirms that the cycle of reincarnation in which Naruto and Sasuke are is the samsara. Naruto who is the reincarnation of Ashura is nothing special, it's just a natural phenomenon on how many people view life in Japan (and Asia). Globally, there are between 1 and 1.6 billion people in the world who believe in samsara (Hinduism and Buddhism combined). It's just that here Kishimoto tries to deal with this aspect by showing that even if what happens to you is similar it doesn´t mean that you will make the same choices (as the rikudo says) For the story of the child of the prophecy, the prophecies also exist in his religions. It´s actually the actions specific only to Naruto (and not actions dictated by a superior strength) because what Gamamaru sees is the karma of individuals (page 83 of databook 4 explains that gamamaru has the power to see the karma of individuals). This is again a problem of cultural conception Naruto also has a third level reading on religion (which is basically its main subject if you look deeper) since the conflicts between the Uchiha and the Senju are in terms of beliefs a big representation of the conflicts that exist between Shintoism and Buddhism (which are the 2 main religions of Japan, besides susano, amaterasu, izanami/izanagi etc… come from Shinto folklore),and the manga ends on the fact that it´s by overcoming hatreds and divisions and by advancing together that it will be possible to bring peace and build a better world (moreover for the anecdote, in Japan it´s possible to be believers of the 2 religions). I get these informations from several searches on the internet (wikipedia, interviews and forums), in term of video I recommend the video of Korean Dost on Naruto and also the video, Naruto's Complex Subtext and Themes: Buddhism, Shintoism, and Hinduism if you are interested .

When I started watching this I didn’t expect to find myself crying all throughout the last 10 minutes. For Naruto itself and Marks’ nothing but philosophical analysis of this beautiful peace of art both touched my heart and soul. It is magnificent and it’s poetry made me shed tears of joy, hope and nostalgia

A common misconception about Naruto and Sasuke’s Six Paths powers is that Hagaromo gave it to them. Naruto got his after receiving chakra from all the tailed beasts, he got 2,3,4,5,6 and 7 in his first fight against Obito, 1 and 8 he got when obito stole some of their chakra from madara, then he transferred it to naruto along with Minatos half of the nine tails. Sasuke got the Rinnegan because Hashirama gave him some of his chakra just before Madara stabbed him. Kabuto also healed Sasuke using modified Hashirama cells which lead to his Rinnegan awakening. Hagaromo only gave them the seals to seal Kaguya.

My computer has just given out on me. Don’t know why but the 2TB hard drive that I kept literally all my files on suddenly can no longer be accessed, and I have to take it in to see if it can even be repaired. I wanted to preface with that as I say that your videos are some that I watch on repeat despite their gargantuan timelines. The way you come across with your thoughtful and considerate approach when reviewing manga/anime makes it much easier for me to ground myself while working my shifts. Thank you for being a source of comfort in times of great stress, I hope that your tribulations are able to be overcome with ease. ❤
