Following the SB loss Matt Ryan lost to the eagles in 2017( who ended up winning the bowl) and then in 2018 he had an arguable better year than he did his mvp year ( statistically speaking). He didn’t really regress til 2019 or 2020 which isn’t falling off bc of a loss, he j fell out his prime being now in the league for over a decade.

Not his fault practically all the defensive starters got hurt in the first few weeks and the backups couldn't protect a lead to save their lives. Ryan had games where he went for 300 yards, 3+ TDs and no interceptions and they still lost because of the *defense* (which was the reason they lost the Super Bowl).

Don't ever go 15-1 or now 16-1. You'll need to have at least two losses to "learn" the proper lessons to winning the whole thing. The Dolphins are the exception because their perfect season didn't last 16-17 regular season games. The Bears are excluded because they learned enough by losing to the Dolphins. A pair of AFC East quarterbacks in the 80's deserve a mention: David Woodley and Tony Eason. Woodley led the Dolphins to the Super Bowl in the strike-shortened 1982 season. After a terrible performance in the game, the Dolphins drafted Dan Marino and after being benched early in the 1983 season, Woodley never played for the Dolphins again. After two mediocre seasons with the Steelers, Woodley was done. Eason was the starting quarterback for the 1985 Patriots that got destroyed by the Bears in the Super Bowl. Even though he got MVP votes for his 1986 season, Eason was nothing more than a backup for his last four seasons before retiring.
