Yes, RGIII is a bust, but with an asterisk. The outcome is the same, but he falls into a slightly different category. Plenty of other players came back from the same injury and were successful; Adrian Peterson and Rob Gronkowski are good examples.

Gronk and AP played in way better run organizations than RGIII. RGIII could have thrived if he found a starting spot in a team like the Niners, Ravens, Steelers or Eagles. Not his fault.
@IcyTorments
@IcyTorments 3 ай бұрын
yeah no RGIII isnt a bust, dont care about that asterisk you wanna put there. Bro was literally forced to completely change his game and never played the same because of it. also you chose some very interesting examples. AP was already a freak and did something extremely rare back then hell its still rare. hell kevin whites the same both had brutal injuries and to put them as busts is Bullshit. you know that, we know that, you need to do better man. theyre were 100% bigger busts in the 2010's than those 2. in 2013 both luke joeckel and dion jordan were taken back to back with joeckel going 2nd overall and jordan going 3rd. Jordan played 63 games in 6 seasons with not very good stats, joeckel played for years last playing in 2017 for seattle.

RgIII was not a bust he was killing it before injury a bust is matt leinart, Jamarcus Russell, Jake locker etc. Redskins picked correct player but didn’t use him correctly and rushed him back in to soon after the injury. RGIII would’ve had a great career if never injured. Adrian Peterson and Rob took time off to heal. Adrian did win mvp the next season but he had the off season to heal ! RGIII was thrown into a playoff game injured.

RG3 was never a bust, that injury he had ruined the rest of what would have been an amazing career. The Bears drafted Mitch Trubisky WAAAAAAYYYYY to high seriously the #2 overall pick after one good season in college?? That speaks more volume to the Bears being an inept organization.

So the fact that the Bears reached for Mitch is what makes you think he's a bust. I agree they shouldn't have reached for him, but they didn't know that at the time and he was by all accounts, the best quarterback on the board. In hindsight, we obviously know that's not true.

He was also drafted without having much college experience given to a head coach that had no coaching experience and made to play in his fourth game without having an actual starter in front of them. Mahomes on the other hand, got a coach that had 20 years head coaching experience and sat behind a true professional for an entire year. You can't tell me that doesn't have an effect after watching Jordan love.

RG3 wasn’t a bust-his potential was undeniable. The team failed him by pushing him to play through injuries, ultimately damaging his body. Then, when Jay Gruden took over, it felt like his career was mismanaged and derailed entirely. It’s hard to label someone a bust when circumstances beyond their control played such a huge role in their downfall.

@DaveysWonderfulWorld This is kind of always a mistake IMO. Mahomes sat for a year learning behind a playoff calibre QB, among a playoff team, with a hall of fame coach. When he started it was an optimal circumstance. Most guys drafted top 3 by contrast are required to be day 1 starters on scrub teams. You can't really compare the two on that basis. Mahomes was considered a project and nobody reasonably projected him as a top 3 pick.

He gets drafted by Tampa Bay, had two awful seasons, then finds his way out to SF and blows it way up and ends up being a two time MVP and Super Bowl winner and MVP in ‘94 throwing a record 6 TD passes. In a 5 year period the Browns took not one, not two but THREE QBs with major red flags: Brandon Weeden, Johnny Manziel and DeShone Kizer Weeden: 28 years old with no upside Manziel: Immature frat boy Kizer: So unpolished even his coach (who was vilified for saying it) said he wasn’t ready. They then get it (somewhat) right with Baker Mayfield who wins them their first playoff game in 25+ years, then proceed to thank him by jettisoning him for the NFL’s version of Bill Cosby and gave him $230 guaranteed. I don’t recall Trubisky being seen as a “savior,” if anything he was seen as an experiment with potential excellent upside. He was 4-8 his rookie year (for a 5-11 team, their 4th straight year of 10+ losses.) Then the Bears were 11-3, 8-7 and 6-3 with Trubisky starting. They gave up on him, for whatever stupid reasons. They were 2-5 the rest of his last Chicago year, then went 6-11, 3-14 and 7-10. They’re 4-2 now under 1st overall pick Caleb Williams, but haven’t played anyone besides Houston w/ a winning record or that has good metrics. Trubisky was no superstar, but handled correctly he could’ve done for Chicago what Flacco did in Baltimore.

I would put Sammy Watkins. Certainly the two first round draft picks BUF spent on him never panned out for BUF, but I’d argue he never showed he was an elite WR in his time in the league.

Always find it strange that Trubisky is considered a 'bust' when in his 4 seasons at Chicago, he racked up over 10,000 passing yards and over 70 Tds. Just because he didn't have the success of either Mahomes or Watson doesn't make him a 'bust'. A good but not elite QB. Like most of them, really.

RG3 was NOT a bust! Bust is very subjective based on various factors (e.g. before/after rookie payscale; draft class depth; red flags; level of reach; whether its team needs or potential; and of course position). There are so many other QBs that I would put before RG3 before labeling him a bust with or without an asterisk.

Justin Blackmon wasn't a bust becuz of his athletic ability.. It was his off the field issues.. Bro, really could've lived up to the hype.. In his 1st season, He had 70+ catches for 850+ yards & 5TDs while playing with a bad QB... In his 2nd year.. He had 415 yards with 1 TD in 4 games...

@Hyside14

Just like Tua is doing to Tua **. You seriously want to blame mike Mcdaniels and the dolphins org for a QB refusing to ever slide? They wouldn't start him again unless the doctors AND Tua himself consent to it. Cheap excuse to act like its solely on the dolphins org. Especially in comparison to the shit show that was Dan Snyder. Bad take imo, the only similarity i see would be if Tua does end up retiring this year, i would NOT consider him a bust in the same way i do not think RG3 was a bust. besides that its apples to oranges.

there are three major reasons for why a player ends up a "bust" in the pros 1. off the field issues (trouble with the law/mental health) 2. ability (talent doesn't translate/gel with the team that drafted him) 3. health (injuries)

The only real bright point for Mitch Trubisky was how he was able to shred the Matt Patricia Detroit Lions. Dude had a nearly 70% completion, 12/1 TD/INT, averaged over 270 per game, and had a passer rating of 124.4. The Bears won all four. Felt like it kept his career alive there for a bit. So yeah, his highlight was beating on a legendary atrocious defense for 3 years.

What stings even more for the Bears when they traded for Trubisky was just how much better the 49ers did with their assets. While Solomon Thomas (the pick that actually belonged to the Bears) was a bust, it was another pick in that haul that is the real kick in the family jewels. The 3rd round pick in the 2018 Draft ended up being 70th overall, and the Niners selected Fred Warner, who is the man in the middle of the 49ers linebacker corps. Rubbing more salt in the rounds, the 3rd round pick from 2017 was traded by the Niners to the Saints, and the Saints ended up selecting Alvin Kamara with it. Even though the Bears would have definitely botched Mahomes or Watson (let's just say the Bears lack the coaching staff needed to develop QBs) if they had gone there, can you imagine if instead of trading those picks, we would be seeing Alvin Kamara or Fred Warner in Bears colors instead? While it would not immediately turn the Bears into Super Bowl contenders overnight, it certainly would have given them a fighting chance for bragging rights against their NFC North rivals.

What's crazy was the 49ers didn't even want Trubisky. The Bears could probably have traded DOWN and still gotten Trubisky.
