As usual, you've supplied the best perspective of this athlete's recent accomplishments through your analysis. I was immediately overwhelmed with Sydney's achievements when she won the 400m hurdles besting her own previous WR by .28 seconds and nearing the 49 second realms (sub-50.0)--in to the realms where the men reside--but her massive lead extension in that second leg of the 4x400 relay was even more breath-taking--then to see the time(s) (I've seen it posted at 47.70 as well as 47.71--not sure who gets to decide which one is the "official" result). At the 2022 Worlds the announcer declared that Sydney's performance was "Beamon-esque"--referring to the iconic superhuman result of Bob Beamon's 8.90 meter (29" 2 1/2") jump in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. I think that Sydney McLaughlin(-Levrone)'s overall life-long portfolio expresses an overall athleticism that is "Beamon-esque."

Simone Biles hasn't lost an all around competition in gymnastics since early 2013, when she was 15 years old. There were a couple years in there and an olympics where she chose not to compete for mental health reasons, but every competition she entered, she won. For over a decade. No mention of Femke Bol's 47.93 in the mixed relay at the Olympics. I think it's especially impressive, if you look at the fact that she didn't run the shortest route to achieve that time - she had to pass other runners ahead of her on the outside.

She is a goddess. Her competitors are mere mortals in comparison. I feel lucky to be alive to witness her. I feel the same about having seen Flo-Jo.
@stevie5864 ай бұрын
It makes perfect sense to me she would have the highest score because although FloJo should have probably had a 1400 PLUS (lol), just a few years, everyone thought sub 51 was absolutely impossible. Heck, just before then, everyone thought sub 52 was impossible until Dalilah did it. What Syd had repeatedly done is not just FloJo level, but she has done it over the course of many years now. I totally think Sydney’s records are those records that won’t be broken by anyone other than she. Syd is running during a perfect time where she got to Piggyback off Dalilah and also improve upon that. Dalilah was such a key component in Syd’s success, and I don’t think we will have another situation in the future with the likes of two of the best in history going toe to toe, then adding a third into the mix during the same era! We often have tough rivalries, like Shelly & Carmelita, but the World Record wasn’t even in the discussion because it is so far out there. Syd is setting those kinds of records!

I don't think the WR is untouchable. Bol is knocking too close for Sydney's comfort. I think that is why Sydney is sticking in, to try and create a margin that can last for longer, because she knows if she drops out Bol will soon take over and bury it quick.

In terms of Sydney's undefeated streaks for 2024, didn't she also win a 100 meter hurdles race early in the season, with a very plausible time of 12.71, or something like that?
@wesleyowens40894 ай бұрын
She did indeed. I believe it was her season opener and it was fast enough to qualify for the Olympic trials. I think she could do any distance she wanted to 800m and Uber and see success. Though 400 is her best and where she will see the most success

I love watching Sydney run! I hope she can bring her WR sub 50, but it will be a difficult task - even for her. I don't see a sub 47,6 so far to be honest... perhaps a 48 flat. Femke is imo still a future thread, because her pr is improving drastically... ...if this continues Sydney needs to bring her A-game time and time again. the gap between Mondo and the rest is even higher. He has a good chance of winning 4 in a row at the olympics, for sure a better chance than Syd to still win in the next 8 years to come. I really wonder why Sydney hasn't grabbed another gold medal in the mixed...??? she could have collected a total of 8 till 2028 instead of "only" 6 golds... that would rank her objectively even higher

Awesome job. I have said this on other YT sites that were showing or complimenting SML"s Olympics, she is in my mind as good a T&F athlete as the world has see in some time. 200m, 400M and 400M hurdles-all potentially WR is she wanted to concentrate on each of them for a short time. She is already so close to the WR in the 400M now and that(as you pointed out) was a 2nd leg in the 400M relay. You could see her slow down to pass the baton to Gabby, who almost stepped off the track. Seriously? She also ran 22.02 in the 200m recently(against Gabby) and Gabby Thomas won the Olympic gold in just .15 seconds less!! On top of her talent she is beautiful, well spoken, and young enough to dominate for years to come is she chooses to do so. Never know if she will get a baby itch. AN AMZING ATHLETE!

As incredible as it is, Sydney's world record of 50.37 seconds for the women's 400 meter hurdles scores 14 points less than Armand (Mondo) Duplantis' current world record of 6.25 meters for the men's pole vault, which gives one an idea of just how special Mondo is in the pole vault. If I understand the scoring system correctly, Sydney would have to run a sub 50 second 400 meter hurdles race to match Mondo's score. Regardless, both Sydney and Mondo are very special athletes.

2:50 - “it starts at 1 point which represents the slowest possible time”. I started a 100 meter “dash” back in 1992 and am now closing in on 0% completed. I hope to achieve this elusive score eventually, but I’m concerned I’ll end up with a 2.

She should flip and run the 400m and 200m like Alyson Felix...as her next goal. Her vs Gabby and Paulino YIKES...imagine if Cockrell was on this relay would've smashed WR.

Syd is very consistent and hard to beat but that 999 of Moses is a stretch is very hard but almost impossible now with Bol taling her,also given that its still 4 years to go. If Bol doesn't run so many relays before 400mh finals she will have a chance of beating her(although it's still hard)

The narrator said that Sydney had gone unbeaten over 400m hurdles for the past 5 years, a streak of 22 races. Ed Moses went unbeaten for just under 10 years - but that was 122 races! Sydney is an incredible athlete, but she gives the fans next to nothing. Ingebrigtsen is out there trying to break records almost every week of the season.

Relay split times are always dubious because it all has to do with the handoff. A, the perception by the official split stat recorders of when the baton's possession changed, which could be subjective, and B, because getting the baton early or late in the zone can affect the actual distance run by several meters. If you get the stick at the last possible moment in the zone and then hand it off at the earliest opportunity on an interior leg, you are certain to have run a much shorter "400" than someone who did the opposite and got the stick early but used more zone to make the exchange at the end. This is exaggerated in shorter races, where a few meters of exchange zone is a larger percentage of the total distance. But it can affect the 400 as well. All of that to say, yes Sydney is still very, very fast, but split times are not really "real" in the way individual times are.

Femke Bol’s last 100m is absolutely the best in 400m & 400m hurdles, the way she can kick at the end is world class respect to her, but Sydney is a different animal. From start to finish she is basically in top speed and only gets faster each 100m. Insane. What a legend

@@BLACKSTA361 In all fairness, Femke tried to stay with Sydney for the first 300m, hoping she would have enough to outkick in the last 100m. But when she saw Sydney take it to another gear between 200m and 300m, it was over mentally and physically. At that point, she pretty much gave up, which allowed Anna Cockrell to get silver.
