This is by far my favorite Attila "Horse" trailer. I dont know if its the actor who voices attila, but something about his portrayal of attila gives me shivers down my spine. When he was sitting at the table, with all the dead roman generals. That is what I would come to expect from the scourge of god. Turning the dead generals face toward the camera "who looks very similar to caesar" was just the icing on the cake. All in all, this horse is very ashen indeed.

the verse "and Hell followed with him" in the original Greek can also be translated "and Hell was his disciple." Since the word for "to follow" and "to be a disciple" in Greek shared the same root. I prefer the latter translation because it gives the rider of the Ashen (or in the literal Greek, Pale) Horse more gravitas.

I still see some discussions in the comments about the origin of the Huns. To lighten you up: We definitely know that they came from central asia and that they're related to the Xiongnu, the Mongols and the Turks but because we don't have enough records we can't say if they belonged to one of them or were an own tribe. They were never a homogeneous group and quite many germanic and sarmatian tribes allied with them. As for the Hungarians, they descended from the Magyars, a finno-ugric tribe from around the Ural. They aren't really related to the Huns, they just settled in the same region as they did (Pannonia) some centuries before. If I got something wrong, you can off course correct me (but please be nice). And if I made a grammatical mistake, I'm sorry, English isn't my native language.
@Predalien00710 жыл бұрын
Its true the Huns are not the ancestors of the hungarians but they are to the szekelys.The Magyars and the Huns were actually like brothers.The remains of the Hunic tribe settled in Transylvania and became the Szekelys.They (szekely) almost speak the same language as the hungarians but there are some differences.
@danielpardo68909 жыл бұрын
The Hun relation to the Szekelys is just an unproven theory, and cannot, as of yet, be taken as fact.

+Disappointed Turtle "They aren't really related to the Huns, they just settled in the same region as they did (Pannonia) some centuries before." I have a bit of an issue with this sentence, maybe you can clarify. Do you mean the Huns settled in the same region as the Magyars, or vice versa? If vice versa, the Magyars settled down in Pannonia a good four centuries later, so they would be after, not before.

Attila is definitely Turkish. There are a lot of records about it, for example, the Asian Hun state, Europe, everyone knows that the Asian Hun state is Turkish, secondly, the names of the Huns are oktar, aybars... etc. The Turkish name also says that the Göktürk state is the continuation of the Huns

ATTILA has been really OVERRATED by the history books for four reasons. Firstly his horde could not have been any larger than 10,000 men. Secondly he attacked at a time when all of the other powers in the area had worn themselves ragged by fighting amongst themselves. Thirdly despite this advantage he still LOST at the battle of Chalons. The final reason is that he was so opsessed with gold and war that he never took the time to develop his society beyond that of a nomadic state with any sort of institutions and as result his empire immediately disintegrated after his death.
@sidetracker349610 жыл бұрын
Just like another future horde empire that fell shortly after the death of his leader this horde also took advantage of the fact that all the enemies it faced were already weakened from infighting constant warring bad harvesting lack of good medicine religious wars so on and so forth and don't you dare commit the fallacy that is comparing Attila and Genghis Khan since they are separated by a time gap of 700 years so technological advancements are a non factor
@andrerobinson323310 жыл бұрын
Side Tracker I am not comparing them on a technological level, I am comparing them on a cultural level as they are very similar on that point. Technology aside they are both illiterate Asiatic nomadic hordes. Genghis Khan had the good sense to LEARN from his defeated foes, established the mongol written tongue, political institutions and trade routes that helped to establish mongol power for at least a century after he died. All Atilla wanted was gold. Furthermore the one defeat that the mongols recieved in their prime against the malmukes did mark a complete HALT to mongol aggression like Atilla's defeat at Chalons did.
@zakthescout10 жыл бұрын
nearly everything you just said is false and goes against everything modern scholars know about Attila and the Hunnic Eurasian peoples, you sir just opened up a whole new meaning of dumb, if youd like, I can explain in detail how your wrong in almost every way, firstly, it is a poor misconception highlighted on total war forums that Attila only had 10,000 men and even if he actually did that would mean he was an even better general than history gives him credit for having so few men and going against powers so dominant, most scholars believe that improbable however because he took many cities and pillaged many lands, so between 20 and 30 thousand is the accepted number, secondly, the eastern roman empire was not worn or battered in any way, they had an army that totaled at around or just over a quarter of a million men, including field men and border guards, as was the rest of europe, the only fighting that was going on universally occured do to the pressure the Huns were putting on the tribes to move east, which caused more problems in the west than the east, thirdly, the reason why Attila lost at Chalons was due to a massive coalition against Attila and his allies which was almost unheard of and without this alliance it would have been impossible to contain the Hunnic/Ostrogothic/Gepid mixed army, also scholars believe that the only way for them to have won was by outnumbering the Huns, which is the most likely consensus, so there was no advantage that Attila had, in fact, he was at a large disadvantage because one of the leaders on the opposing side lived with the Huns for a prolonged period, so not only did he know how they fought but knew tactics to beat their feinting tactics, which was also helped by their strength in numbers, so there was absolutely no advantage on the hunnic side, thirdly, yes he was obsessed war but never gold, gold was the mark of someones respect or submission which clearly you dont understand, but studying eurasian steppe culture as I do, you learn that there is far more behind the curtains then you may think, and i can forgive your ignorance as there is very little record on all of this and they teach most of it in college classes, which I am apart of, so allow me to enlighten you, the reason why the Hunnic Empire fell apart was because there was no one strong enough to take the title of Khan, the infighting caused the disintegration, his obsession with gold is a falsity that is widely spread due to the lack of understanding of their culture, their entire culture is based around the strong taking from the weak, the strong always winning. they did not care for building an empire, they only cared for the respect of their peers, looking down from the Eurasian steppe and seeing house dwellers all comfy and cozy, why not take everything they own and punish them for their weakness, this is the steppe way, there were oaths that a man must take before joining the horde of Genghis Khan many years later, you cannot take a wife before having the wife of another man, you cannot own property until you burn the property of another man to the ground, this is the way of the Nomads, this was the way of Attila, he was not overrated friend, the thousands that died by his hand never called him overrated
@AnonymousGamer54610 жыл бұрын
Side Tracker There is a key difference between the legacies of Atilla and Genghis Khan.The empire of Genghis Khan did not collapse after his death, in fact his sons and grandsons dramatically enhanced the size of the Mongol empire. Some of the decendants of Genghis Khan fallowed his footsteps by building empires of their own from scratch. The founders of the Mogul dynasty of India and the Qin dynasty of China were all descended from Genghis khan. Attila on the other hand made no plans for his succession, as a result the Huns vanished from history less than thirty years after his death. On another note the Huns left no sources because, unlike the Mongols under Genghis Khan, they never adopted a written script.
@zakthescout10 жыл бұрын

Can the Picts be playable? It would be quite fun to be the last Celtic faction making a last stand against the romans . They could have increased fighting ability but , due to their diplomatic isolation (being surrounded by romans for roughly 300 years ) would struggle in diplomacy . Please total war

why was there just a random table of leader who all died at the same time during a feast with books... if their city was being invaded they probably wouldn't be sitting there
@SPLegoStudios10 жыл бұрын
Reference to the last supper painting. Attila is sitting where Christ sits in the painting, with all the other faction leaders dead around him, for Attila was supposedly thought of by many as the Anti-Christ.

SPLegoStudios ah, I see what you mean... i wonder which hun member took the time to go find all those dead bodies and books to set it up for Attila haha

i dont get attila? why does he wanna destroy everything? what could he possibly gain from doing this? wouldn't it be more better if he conquered lands instead of destroying it? can someone explain this to me?
@SimonAshworthWood10 жыл бұрын
They took tribute to not attack... and if people didn't give them tribute, they attacked and took loot. They took the tribute or loot back to wherever they were camping at the time, and Attila shared it out amongst his soldiers.

Like the vikings did after him. They inflict a ton of damage on lands all over building up this huge dangerous reputation. Then once it was built up they used that reputation to get paid not to attack people, as well as to get better deals when they were trading. He attacked people then those peoples neighbors or enemies would pay the Huns to attack someone else or to just not attack them in general. The Romans even paid them once to fight for them. There are many ways to make money off the reputation of being an evil monster that seemingly wants to destroy the world. You can pay said monster to go away or pay it to go rip your enemies apart and hope it doesn't come back to you. It also makes people less likely to want to attack the land the monster dwells in...

They destroyed towns to set an example of what would happen if you didn't give in to them. They wouldn't touch anything so long as they were payed tribute.

Because the West was growing too large, too quickly.

***** Hardly, the West had been declining for centuries, before Atilla had even arrived.
