Last night the crying of the Total War children kept me awake and I had a terrible vision. I saw the released beta of our stand-alone expansion ATILLA. Incomplete code under a harsh digital platform. Quality control... gone. Why would Creative Assembly send such a vision? They are not cruel. They have watched over us. We have had great games a plenty sell millions. Their merchants sell games to all corners of the world. And yet now I fear... I cannot help it. Total War is the envy of lesser franchises. Other players they tell terrible lies about Total War! They do not understand the building construction tree so they LIE! But CA's public relations, they are the masters of falsehood. Internet complaining will come, I am sure of it. So I will have no more false visions... and I think the children will be quiet tonight.

I am quite sure Rome 1, Medieval 2, and Empire were massive hits and top selling games. Rome 2 is as well with sales, just the views on the quality of the game are highly mixed, more-so than Empire (another questionable-quality game). Certain games need patches, other games have flawed core design.

It was not a good launch, one of the worst PC Launches ever, the game can't be played without mods currently, if you think otherwise you must be a new TW fan, which is fine, enjoy the game you bought it but the "Vocal Minority" Is a ignorant thing to say.

TylerTR95 I don't particularly see the relevance of how "old" a fan somebody is, but if you are interested, I have played every Total War game since Rome I, which is fairly old. It's certainly old enough to have experienced the two games that Rome II haters often consider to be better, namely Rome I and Medieval II, although I absolutely disagree with that. The phrase you use, "can't be played without mods" particularly applies to Rome I, and while Medieval II was a good game with very good battles, its campaign gameplay was absolutely blown out of the water by Empire and all subsequent titles. Also, I enjoyed Rome II from launch. I don't think it's perfect, I don't think it lives up to the hype that was created for it, and I also don't think it's the best TW experience yet (for me, that's still FotS), but I thought it was a good game nonetheless. Particularly now, with all the patches, FreeLC and DLC in the bag, I think it's a very enjoyable experience, and in its current state I would probably name it as the best TW game yet if I didn't dislike the setting as much as I do.

Alright dude, thats fair but for me, i've only had a few good hours of the game and thats recently. I pre ordered the game, and when i play it i almost feel sick to my stomach i was so excited for this game the night it came out i was at work and i was just hoping that it would be great. I'm very passionate Total war fan, and i can't stress enough for me and i know im not the only one is almost disgusted the way the game was early on.

Dennis Feenstra after last patch a lot of people had new issues with the game( on a very good pc's),..and some old bugs are still there ,....shadow gliches , campaning map lags ,..siege lags,bad pathfinding(old bug still not fixed), AI bugs ..and so on, patches fixed some things but not all of theme ...i hope they won't stop patching rome II

Dennis Feenstra Rome II is not suppose to have 15 patches. That tell us that the game was in beta stage and they just released it and laughed at us. In fact the AI is still terrible, pathfinding in cities are awful, and overall game play is boring. Don`t be naive thinking that Rome II needs no more further patching.

I was and still am satisfied with Rome 2, and while Attila is not the game I had hoped would be next(which was Empire 2) I am still very interested in it. Some may feel lied to, I feel you are over-blowing the issue simply to whine and complain. I have played EVERY Total War game and have loved each of them for their own merits. I feel that a major portion of naysayers came to the franchise because of Shogun 2, which to me was over-hyped and bland in design which I realize is an unpopular opinion. If you don't enjoy Rome 2 and don't think you'll enjoy Attila then don't play them or pay for them, part of the point of a game is to have fun and get enjoyment from it. You are entitled to your opinion, but this badgering is obnoxious and childish.

Not this time CA. I'm old enough to know better. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Even as a founding CA fan going back to Shogun TW, NEVER again will I pre-purchase. I don't care how much DLC candy you use to try and make it sound ever so sweet. And, I have a nice little story for all your new blooded young fanbase. Once upon a time in an age of wonder, and magical perfection, there arose an idea within blips and blocks. Behold, it was the 8bit era. Where developers had to stand proud... or ashamed, of there final product. A time where developers could not solicit and exploit its fan base for funds for a partial game. A time where if they pushed a game to early release, and twas unfinished, there it was... forever. For the whole world to see. It would have to sell on its own merits. And if it was found lacking, it would become a mockery amidst the industry. A grand Golden Age! Where you could buy square plastic item from your local store, bring it home, and slide it into the machine. All the while knowing... It would no doubt work. However bad or great the content, for better or for worse, it... would... work. Glorious it was! Once you paid for the game, there it was, in your hand, easy to equip and use. No 3rd party! And it was yours forever... and ever. And what grand adventures of co-op! Where to much trash talk may end up in true mortal kombat betwixt two long time friends. So many grand adventures. But lo, there loomed a growing dark cloud upon the horizon. Gathering itself larger and larger. A blight that would stamp out true gamerism with dread laws of DRM, DLC, Updates, Registration, lock and key, social secrity number, and human/puppy sacrifice just to install a game. Let us not forget about compatibility, "recommended" or "suggested" complications adding to woe. So as the staunch old guards of the 8 bit era died off, and were replaced by there ill informed and complacent sons and daughters, the legend of the Golden Age was mostly forgotten. And the true ways of the gamer were nearly lost with time. Now the darkness has engulfed near the entirety of the new guard with its with its lure of convenience. Leaving only a tiny remnant to defend the old ways. And... defend it they shall.

*****. Hey, I'm not saying we didn't have our fair share of POS games. But at least we only bought it once. We weren't spending more and more money trying to find out if the devs finished or fixed the game. And I'm not saying i don't like any of the dlc, like blood pack ect. What I'm saying is that I'm getting sick of devs slicing a game in half (or excluding pieces/slices) so they can charge us again to complete the game. Or using a 3rd party (like steam) to block the use of it. The finished game was always forced to stand on it's own, without this "Mehh, we'll finish it later." or "Lets milk the userbase!" mentality. I can take a cartridge and system from 30 years ago, and play it just how i did then. Without internet, without steam, without updates, without dlc, without matching system requirements, or registration, nor email address, and it will start up and play in less than 10 seconds. Now you spend more time setting up for a game, than actually playing the damn thing. I find that absolutely ridiculous. So couple all that with how steam has locked you out of ownership (you can not resell your purchased content like you can now with retro games and consoles), and you can see just how shitty the whole deal it is, even with a nifty steam sale. It's all done to maximize their sales, and exclude the player/payer base. And so, the new gen of gamers will die off. And never move into the generation of retro gamers, or being able to pass down there tangible system and games to their sons and daughters. It just makes me kinda sad to see my fellow gamers get fooled so easily.

*NOPE* - Another game built in the horrid Warscape engine. - Rome II is still broken and taught all of us a good lesson of "The consequences of Pre-ordering a game whose creators are infamous for releasing broken games for the last decade." - Warscape engine. Because we like it's blobbing and 1v1 fights. - Extremely simplistic gameplay, dumbed-down for casuals who think that old games "were 2 hard to learn and needed a nerf". - Idiotic AI. - UI that seems they designed it for consoles rather than for a PC game. - Did I mention how every TW veteran hates the Warscape engine? Seriously, RTW's engine allowed single units to fight multiple foes at once, plus the AI had better pathfinding and could realize more complex actions. Also, phalanx WORKED. Also, formations WORKED. - Last-gen graphics. - Lack of "small" things like Guard mode makes the game unplayable in some aspects.

Interesting use of the four horsemen idea. However, since the horseman with a white horse "rode forth victorious to further his victories" and is armed with a bow, wouldn't it make more sense for Attila to be riding a white horse? I'm guessing either the Goths or Vandals will be given the red horse, the Western Roman Empire the black horse, and the Sassanids or maybe the Franks, Saxons, or Lombards the pale green/ashen horse (depending on what translation one possesses).

Let the community create content, they generate revenue for you and get paid royalties for it, everyone happy. All you need to do is quality test and management. I have been a huge fan of Total War series since Shogun1 days. However honestly the In-Game footage you showed for Rome2 has absolutely nothing to do with what we got! even as of today graphics is not even remotely close to what was shown in the trailer via so called engine. In the trailer and gameplay footage you TOOK from the GAME! rome had 20-30 units all highly detailed with very intense sword fighting. What we get is a crappy version of low graphic with minimalistic details. Shogun 2 was million miles ahead :( I am very disappointed and now this is exactly the same as Rome2 maybe with minor performance tweaks. Graphic and control wise it is the same crap :(

parsani Did you check Unlimited Video Memory in the options? I remember that was causing issues for users where it would automatically downgrade them to the lowest setting. It was supposedly patched, but who knows, maybe you are still having that issue.

SEGA is full of money-whores. They just want to make huge profit when the time is right. CA couldn't finish the game when that time came so SEGA told CA to release the game and we can still patch the bugs later. In the end a lot of people (gamers) were angry about this. If CA was in charge than the game would have been released this year or even next year. Though I do think it would rather be this year and sell Attila as some sort of expansion/stand-alone game which is the case now.

I would prefer a renaissance/age of exploration total war, set in the 15th and 16th centuries, in the golden days of Iberian explorations. Another decent era could be the early dark ages, roughly from 500 AD to 1100 AD, with the existing European kingdoms of the times. And yet another good epoch, could be Asia and China set in the Ming Dynasty, or South America before European colonization, or even the Bronze age with ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Personally, I think that Total War has to, at some point or other, cover ancient Egypt and its surrounding rivals. It's a must.

check out the total war 2 mod, medieval 3 its in development but models look good so far. They are planning to switch to Attila to get the new features and crossbows which the animation is needed from Ca. Can not add a crossbow animation to Rome 2 atm

pypy1986820 The Huns were almost certainly a Turkic people. as such they belonged to the wider 'Altaic' grouping along with the Mongols, yes, but they weren't their "ancestors". Turkic peoples actually originated in what's today Mongolia, but later moved west en masse (because of Chinese attacks), to be replaced by people who lived to the north of them: the Mongols. As for how they appeared, who knows - but they probably had Asiatic features since many sources call them "exceptionally ugly" (meaning "different" :)). Possibly their features were somewhere between Indo-European and Asiatic... The Machu people belong in an entirely different group, the Tungusic peoples.

I wish someone would have the sense to correct the thumbs up thumbs down use. Thumbs down means to spare. Thumbs up means to kill. When you would hold a gladious and thrust it into an opponent your thumb was up. Thumbs down meant sheath your sword. It's common sense. And very few people know this.
