Our 6th grade class in Miami took a field trip to the Serpentarium, and Mr. Haast (correct spelling) gave me a snakeskin! My mother said "get that nasty thing out of my house!" Bill Haast died recently; he was 100 years old.

I too went on school field trips to the Serpentarium. It was right near the Sweden House smorgasbord. It was Dixie and about 141st Street, right near where the Falls is today

It was an all-or-nothing night for the panel. Frank Kurtz seemed like a shy quiet man. Sometimes heroes are that exact type and not the blustery blowhards. Bill Haast was on many television shows back in the day. Kitty look terrified from the moment the 3 men walked down the stairs and put their baskets on that table. Thanks for the vvideo.

I'm from Miami, and I met Bill Haas many times on school field trips to the Serpentarium. A truly fascinating place & one that saved hundreds if not thousands of people's lives, due to the milking of the snakes. The Serpentarium had a tragic end though after a child on a school field trip fell into the alligator pit and was eaten alive, in front of all the other children. Was horrifying. The state of Florida then ordered it closed.

I was stunned that a TV network would allow a live cobra (that could potentially get away were there to be an accident) in a studio with hundreds of people. I really thought one of those "snakes" that pops out of a can of peanut brittle would be in one of those baskets.

So funny back then they called the snakes poisonous. None were poisonous but all of them were venomous.

Figured Swoosie Kurtz must have been already famous if she appeared on the show but at that time her only screen appearance seems to have been an episode of the Donna Reed Show I can't seem to find anything else she might have done.

I was born & raised here in Miami, FL, and I knew it was #3 as soon as I saw his size. I met Bill Haas twice, on school field trips to the Serpentarium. It wasn't exactly in Miami, but in Pinecrest, FL on South Dixie Hwy (better known as US 1, or Useless 1 LOL locally) and about SW 144th Street.

Yeah, Kevin, we had a field trip there too, in 1966. 15 boys and 12 girls in my class--all the girls wanted to go to the Parrot Jungle, but were out-voted, of course. BTW, I thought the Serpentarium was located in Perrine.

I would like to point out that curare is a poison derived from a plant. So even the real snake collector would be unfamiliar with the poison.

@@kristabrewer9363 My comment, "... in this respect..." refers to the significant reduction in tobacco usage/addiction. In 1962 cigarettes/cigars were advertised in the multi-media and the % of smokers in North America was at least 65% of men and about 45% of women. It was even higher in Europe. Today the good news is fewer than 20% of North American adults smoke tobacco. This reduction is largely responsible for the decrease in new lung cancer and COPD cases. WAAAAY better!

In game one I voted for #3 because of the way he looked at the daughter while being introduced. In game two I voted for #2 because he seemed to be the best informed. In game three I voted for #3 because of the way she nodded in the introduction when the story of her being beaten was discussed. I was wrong in all three games, yet when I was a kid I had a success rate of about 80%. Hmmmmmm.

Hi William, it would be fun to start at the beginning back in 1956 and play the games with one or more people to see how they did. I've been meaning to keep scores just to see how psychic I am. Lol.. But it is fun to try to read body language, or get a sense. Good luck with the games✌
