No mention of Tracy Stallard, the guy who served up number 61 to Roger Maris? 😮
@kenyongray26152 жыл бұрын
He was a very decent picture but his being on the early Mets really made his career won-loss record not so good. It was not an indication of how good he was. I saw him pitch many times.

@kenyongray2615 What is "picture". Do you mean pitcher?

I think Stallard had just been traded to the Cardinals.

Game #1: I remember the first American flag was based in a similar model used during the colonial period - with the Union Jack in lieu of the stars. Also I am an amateur Vexillologist myself, and I even designed a flag for Northern Ireland - that decades after the Good Friday Agreement have not still a flag of her own to reflect a new era of peace and understanding. Game #2: 16:17 😎

Was Bill Anderson not famous at this time? Why didn't the panel recognize him? also, I like Robert Q Lewis, but WHERE'S Bud?!
@Cris431303 жыл бұрын
He had one or two country hits and one cross over pop hit at this time.

As Robert Q. Lewis suggested when he called Anderson out to sing for them, if people were familiar with him, it probably would have on the radio. There wasn't much country music television then.

Yes, Whispering Bill had massive success by this time, but the more upscale urban panelists were not likely in tune [sic] with the genre.

I hate to say it but I found Kitty to have been particularly snobbish when she was dealing with the Bill Andersons. It was almost as if Country or "Hillbilly" Music (as Robert Q. called it - that was a term that had been popular but was mostly out of favour by the mid-60s) was beneath a classically trained singer such as herself. Not an attractive thing.

Brent McKee I didn't read her reactions as snobbish, but just as not knowing much about the genre and at a loss for good questions. Recall, too, that she hadn't yet heard his simple but effective song, so may have been reacting to less talented country musicians than he was. As nice as his song was, I hope it isn't snobbish to realize that its artistic ambitions were not intended to be as high as the opera, operetta, and Broadway music that she was used to singing, from Verdi and Johann Strauss to George Gershwin.

If she didn't know what the costumes were, she didn't know what the costumes were. Not EVERYONE'S a country music fan!
