My uncle Wayne Bowers was on the show circa 1976-77 as the truth teller. His unusual story was having nearly 20 brain surgeries after a tumor was discovered near his cerebellum. His illness was detected in the early 70’s. So this type of surgery was primitive and experimental at best. He was never expected to survive. But he went on to live a full life. I would be thrilled to find his episode someday. If anyone knows where to retrieve specific episodes, please let me know. I stayed home from school just to watch it. I was about 8 or 9 years old, and never forgot how excited I was to see my uncle on TV. Unfortunately, he passed in 2016 at age 68. RIP Uncle Wayne, I love you!

I'm currently reading his book, almost done. Amazing amazing amazing. Although he's a criminal you find yourself cheering and urging him on. A classic tale, one of the most interesting and to think all of this before his 21st. The movie doesn't do justice to what he achieved. Nothing at all. As a doctor he tended to the emergency room as well as the ENTIRE hospital, overseeing. He did that for 11 months. Passed the Bar after his 3rd try, posing as a Harvard grad lawyer who decided to be a pilot. He posed as an FBI agent to return to a bank where he cashed a fake check. He remembered he wrote his real name and dads address on the back of. So he called the bank, said the FBI would be there in 5 mins to get the check. He walked in, took it back and nobody noticed his real name on the back. Oh and he smashed sooooooo many girl's. Soooo many, all mid 20s or later before he was 18! Oh also just on top, he lectured as a doctor in sociology for a semester. Wtf hey haha.

It's terrific to see the actual show. Now I can appreciate how the movie used a seamless blend of original footage and re-enactments with Leonardo DiCaprio. Some observations: 1. I thought it was strange how in the movie the host sounded like he was cut off after saying 0:40 "...and you’re gonna see what I mean" - turns out that he was cut off, because in the original footage he goes on to say 0:41 "...right after we meet our panel." I guess the movie cut out his introduction of the panel to save time. 2. Frank Abagnale Jr. was born in 1948 and the show aired in 1977, so that makes him 28/29 at the time of the show, but 2:47 he looks like he's in his 40s. 3. The show said that 3:08 he cashed $2.5 million in bad checks - but the movie said $4 million. Who to believe?

Puncho Samurai No I am not. She married a Jesuit priest and educator named Eugene Feeney in 1979 and remained married to him until her death in 1999. He was a pretty influential person. Google his name and also check out Peggy's Wikipedia page. Peggy seemed to know quite a bit about the Catholic faith. I myself am a Catholic priest.

Actually, it looks like they just took the original footage and did some editing. When Joe says, “Our first guest, he’s made a career out of being the most outrageous impostor that we’ve ever come across on this show, and you’re gonna see what I mean,” his inflections, pauses, and hand gestures during this clip and in the movie are *exactly the same*. The only difference is that in the movie, he was placed behind his podium, and the panel was already seated in the movie. Also, he and the panelists look exactly the same, right down to the clothing. Also, there is no way in hell he did not age a day between 1977 and 2002.

Actually, Abagnale did not "pawn himself off" as a lawyer - he REALLY did become a lawyer. As the movie depicted (but took some liberty with the chronology), he did pass the Louisiana bar exam and became a practicing attorney-at-law, even working as a Deputy Attorney General. Yeah, no joke! If you ever have chance to visit the Louisiana Attorney General's Office, there's a plaque of sorts in the lobby acknowledging Frank Abagnale and the time he worked there. Why the movie chose to leave out that fact - I don't know. Probably because they tried to establish his character as being nothing but an impostor at everything. The fact that he really did become a barred/licensed attorney might have taken away from the image of the character.
@TimThomason
@TimThomason 5 жыл бұрын
The movie accurately shows him passing the bar exam and working as a prosecutor. It also features the FBI disbelieving that he passed the exam legitimately (but he insists he did, as Abagnale says in RL).

Ferdinand Waldo Demara was "The Great Imposter" played by Tony Curtis. Catch Me if You Can (Frank Abagnale's story) didn't come out until 25 years later. That's why we all could identify him immediately but none of those celebrities of the day could.
